Former President Donald Trump in a statement Sunday said he wanted then-Vice President Mike Pence to overturn the 2020 presidential election, repeating the false claim that Pence had the power to do so and slamming recent bipartisan efforts to reform the Electoral Count Act.

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cn...politics/trump-pence-2020-election/index.html

No more denying it republicans. Trump wanted pence to steal the election. Democracy is for suckers, Vice Presidents pick who leads America! He only says this out loud because he knows Democrats would never stoop that low. Otherwise why risk dems deciding to try the same thing this time around if they lose?

So if Pence had the power to overturn the election as VP - doesn't that mean that Harris can overturn the 2024 election if she wanted?

I don't think The Donald thought this through very well, the dumb ass.

We are not in a debate about the legality of the gesture.

The MAGA know very well now that Pence could not overturn the election and that if he had tried anything, it would have been totally illegal.

    But they don't care.

The Liberals and their independent allies are facing a cult of personality.

This isn't a political movement rooted in reality, it is pure emotion devoid of logic.

They will do anything to get Trump back into office and will justify any action that leads to that goal.

Mello Guy, quickie, has Orange Jesus **ever** said anything that wasn't stupid or crazy? He is lying. Pence and his own attorneys told him that Pence didn't have that power. In fact, his DUTY was to certify the election. Stupid is just saying this to keep the donors' money coming in to help him "fight".

He put a target on his own VP's back with a LIE.

5 Capitol police officers are dead because of a LIE.

How the hell can they defend that when 5 Capitol police officers are DEAD?

To this day, Trump has never said any of the following names:

    Brian Sicknick
    Gunther Hashida
    Kyle deFreytag
    Jeffrey Smith
    Howard Liebengood

They don't care if he broke the law. They have already told us "by any means necessary". You think they care about the illegality of what he did? He has NEVER DONE ANYTHING LEGAL? His whole existence is preying on people for money or lying about preying on people for money. He sure is hard up to be a billionaire.

Didn't he promise to leave the damn country if he lost? When is that going to happen??? Dumbass.

Ark, I've been working on the assumption they did not know Trump lied to them about that. No, that can't be right. Why would somebody come from all over the country to break the law? Some of the defendants tried the excuse they were doing it for their President and some judges wouldn't buy that saying "loyalty is to one's country".

You are saying they KNOWINGLY attacked police officers and went to find Pence KNOWING he didn't have any such authority?

Oh, wow. That makes it even more horrible.

I never denied Trump's misguided and false thoughts. And I applaud the effort to reform the Electoral Count Act to prevent such an outlandish theory from ever being proposed ever again. I still can't legally call it an 'insurrection' because I don't see it as toppling or attempting to remove a government(rather, to prevent a new administration from taking power.) which might seem like not such a distinction, but it's an important one to me. We can't say "laws say this" and then say "laws say this, but we'll make an exception for this!"

Hence, to me it's a riot, a riot created by the former president in order to pressure and intimidate Congress to his bidding. He confessed publicly tonight, in totality.

Yeah, all that's a "given". We know that part just because they choose the Crazy guy.

Do you have any information on if they actually KNEW what they were doing was illegal?

I am really surprise he released this statement. Doesn't he have staff that vet these type of release? It seems he is going "all in" on the play that his belief that the vice president has to right to change a election is acceptable. Even if this is not illegal it kind of shows his thought process. Is it better to have a president that actually believe this is how the American electoral system works or is it better he really knows this is not legitimate but simply looking for loopholes to stay in power? Both alternatives seem bad to me.

That's not exactly how laws work. There are municipal (cities/towns/villages), State and Federal laws.

Some laws are specific to a person.

For example, assault and battery is a crime. People often confuse them but an assault is any kind of threat. Battery is the carrying out of that threat involving physical contact (usually forcibly).

However, assault and battery against a uniformed police officer or identified police officer in plain clothes is a more egregious crime according to the law.

Some laws are specific to a location.

For example, we can yell "Fire" all day long outside. It's a crime to yell fire indoors in a crowd of people.

We can say "bomb" almost anywhere, but not in an airport.

And, the reason it's not "cut and dry" is so people that have privilege (ie white people, celebrities, higher up elected officials, etc.) can bend the rules. If it was cut and dry, we could have registers like they have at McDonald's in a kiosk and somebody just answers the questions on the screen and a piece of paper pops out with a "guilty" or "not guilty" and on down the line.

What we are witnessing in the current climate is how that looks in real life. The same people that justified Chauvin's and Potter's actions condemned Byrd's action for the **exact** offense they said was a clean shoot when the dead person was black.

The exact same people that are upset about the Capitol rioters rights being violated don't care about all the non-white people that go through that exact same thing all the time.

I have no doubts that NOBODY would have defended Rittenhouse, sent him money, hired a legal team or offered him employment if he was not white. It would have been said that he went looking for a fight and that is what he did.

So, either you aren't paying attention or are willfully overlooking the double-standards in not only the law but the way public "voices" are considered based on who they are defending.

But it also took place inside and outside a Federal building which automatically adds more charges. Some people seem confused because of other riots that have happened but if those weren't on Federal property, they aren't comparable to this one.

    Where is that information, please?

I don't believe that he knows anything about the Constitution or Election boards or anything else for that matter.

I think the main issue is that he's never had to justify his actions. In his private businesses, he got away with hiring people just on a hunch and firing people for basically no reason. The only reason he has any businesses is other people are good leaders. He's not. Bullying isn't leading.

Also, he is a con artist. That's what he does. He creates useless schools, fake charities, double-dips in donors' bank accounts and the ONLY reason any of the people harmed received some of that money back is he was FORCED to refund it.

But, as long as he keeps himself in the news and sends out his Monday morning quarterback statements about Biden's actions, he can continue making his supporters think he is just what they need to "fix" what Biden is screwing up. And, for many of them, that comes with the bonus of all non-white, non-Anglo-Saxon, non-Protestant, non-heterosexual people, transgendered people and all other undesirables being evicted. What's not to love? /sarc.

P.S. Oh, and he's saying that crap to keep the hate boiling in their blood to send more money.

    Trump is a Complete IDIOT!

The Most IMBECILIC Cretin Ever to hold the Office.
Trump has NO Understanding (Whatsoever) of The Constitution.
If Alex Jones, Mike Lindell, and Sean Hannity told Trump that "2+2=5", Trump (that Pathetic Misinformed Moron) would go to a Rally and Parrot that Ignorance like a Macaw with Tourette's.

I don't really expect politicians or any leader to necessary be smart or knowledgeable. The advantage they have is normally they are surrounded by experts and advisors. That statement he released was posted on a website. I am pretty sure he did not edit the webpage himself. I am going to assume this statement was passed around and I would have expected someone with a degree of common sense would realized it is not the smartest thing to say publicly and push back. This statement kind of removes any doubt about his position on how to change the election outcome. As I stated earlier it can only mean one of two things: he truly believed that the vice president has the right to override the will of the people or he was looking for a loophole to overturn legitimate results to remain in power. Neither option is befitting of a US president.

Republicans really aren't subtle, are they? All that matters is that they stay in power. If the voters take a different view then the voters are wrong and can be ignored.

That is how it typically works which is why some Trump groupies keep whining that Biden isn't running the show. Trump stomped on procedures and protocols constantly so that's their "normal" but that's incorrect.

Trump is aware that he's incompetent but he demands unwavering loyalty (and never returns it) and he gets his way most times because he's loud and tall (studies have shown that people perceive tall people as good leaders). He gives his insecurity away because he won't shut up. Fauci is the only Federal employee that earns more than the President's annual salary of $400K. Trump should have let Fauci handle the scientific side and he should have handled the leadership side. Instead, he mocked masks, held rallies with no social distancing required (but indemnifications were) and blurted out "disinfectants and UV lights inside the body and hydroxychloroquine). So, not only was he not helpful, he was counterproductive to COVID mitigation.

I'm exhausted now but if you do a search on the staff members he fired during his time in office you will clearly see a pattern of ousting anybody that doesn't tell him what he wants to hear. His apologists will come with a gazillion reasons why those were justifiably terminations, but take a step back and tell me this. Do you think they would have stood behind Obama, Bush, Clinton or any other President trying to strongarm privately-owned social media sites, a State governor (to "find" more votes) or even our DOJ?

Some people refer to them as Trump cultists but I think he's more dangerous than any cult leader that has ever existed.

    • Most cult leaders have sway over a couple hundred, maybe a thousand followers.
    • Trump got several thousand people to storm our Capitol and hurt hundreds of police officers.

    • Most cult leaders want to separate themselves and their flock from the mainstream.
    • Trump wants to separate all people that don't look, love or worship the way his flock does.

    • Most cult leaders aren't necessarily evil.
    • Trump is evil and has no soul (only a soulless person can watch people gang up on police officers and do nothing).

    • They envision a world that can be better than what it is.
    • Trump envisions a country based on total chaos with himself at the helm in a dynasty passed down through his family.

Hardly anything Trump has done since 2016 has been befitting a US President.
