Just stupid on many levels. The reason other countries are trouncing the USA on this nasty, is that no-one is pushing like Trump to send more people to their death beds.

But, the most ridiculous thing he says is that it is Donald who will allow or disallow States to open or stay closed.

Unless I have misunderstood, State Governors control that, not the Humpty clown, despite his absurd claim that he is the ultimate authority.

Stay the **** at home Team USA.....or see your numbers soar.

Nothing stupid about it. We have states that have been impacted very little and are hurting more from the shutdown than the virus.

Your country has a sealed border but for returning residents and they are forced to isolate for 2 weeks.

I'd love to see your opinion, if our President, did the same.

I would applaud him. I'm still hoping he steps up and does it.

I hope that everything works out for the best, and that we hold our leaders accountable.

How long do you think they'll stay safe if everyone starts going out again? A week, if they're lucky.

They'll be counted (and accountable) after the fact. Something akin to war criminals, perhaps. Those who knew and did nothing.

The entire point of the lock down was to prevent our healthcare system from being overloaded all at once. I think we succeeded. Whether we go out now or a month from now I think won’t change the fact we will see a bit of an increase no matter what

What is the acceptable percentage of increase? If things work out worse than that would it have been a mistake?

Why do you think it'll be 'a bit' of an increase? It could be catastrophic.

As long as we don’t overload our healthcare system then this was a success

It could be catastrophic if we wait 6 more months THEN open up. It is highly unlikely if we open up and maintain safe clean practices and what not that it would be catastrophic

Yup. And it's true.. Montana and Wyoming have pretty much no virus.. I'd still think they'd be wise to restrict interstate travel.

It would be a mistake, and potentially far more catastrophic than 12-18 months of economic hardship. The Great Depression lasted longer, and we survived.

No it wouldn’t be a mistake. People are suffering more in some areas from the lockdown than the virus. A slow opening while practicing safe distancing and cleanliness is just fine

Many already had it without realizing it, many more will never get it especially if we maintain social distancing to a much lesser degree. We still go to work but we do our best not to touch others and wash our hands regular, don’t touch our faces, etc.

The reality is we can’t stay on lockdown forever and no matter when we open up be it now or 3 months from now there will be an increase in casualties. At what point is that number acceptable? I don’t think anyone wants to answer that but we all have a number. This is the uncomfortable reality of being a leader and our governors are going to have to make that choice

If there are no to little new cases in a given area, then it should be opened up. It's the smart move.

The question shouldn't be under what conditions we return to normality. The question should be under what conditions do we suspend normality. The onus should be on the alarmists to make their case that this was even necessary to begin with. Thus far, they haven't even come close to that. All they did was wave a bunch of bunk models around while endlessly virtue signalling about how much they care.

So, what is the magic number of deaths that justify the suspension of normal life? Can any of you hysterical alarmists tell me that?

Clearly, the number is larger than 60,000, since that's the number of deaths attributed to the flu last year. Apparently, 60,000 deaths is an acceptable number.

In South Dakota, about six people have died from the coronavirus.

    That's almost ten!

Before you know it, they may even surpass twenty!

And I'm sure the majority of those deaths happened to robust individuals in the prime of their lives. Because if it turned out that they were morbidly obese, bed-ridden octogenarians with diabetes and Alzheimer's, well, that wouldn't be the most tragic outcome imaginable.

Yes, we must do everything we can to protect the 0.1% of the population that is at serious risk from this virus, even if it means suspending normal life for the remaining 99.9% of society. And if you don't agree with that... well, you must want old people to die!

You're absolutely out of your mind if you think the country can withstand 12-18 months of this.

Are you aware that Sweden did not shut down its economy and has about the same results from the virus as the U.S. on a per capita basis? What we did here was stupid - obviously stupid. We must reverse directions fast. Americans can mitigate while they work just like the Swedes.
