The Sunnis are the terrorists and the root of the death and destruction in Syria. They are the agents of the problem.

Probably not much, didn't he fire dozens of naval officers back last summer? So naval warfare out of the question with US.

Syria isn't the only place where we aren't punishing the slaughter of civilians. Syria is in the news, so we get worked up about that one.

Today, Assad is still free to slaughter civilians - we just asked him to do it with explosives, not chemicals. And, in so doing we probably made it harder to work with Russian (and Iran) toward any final end - or even toward real reductions in slaughter.

imo, we should be far more oriented to long term solutions rather than to one-off acts of retribution.

Agreed... That's why I hope more action will follow. One little "warning shot" at one of their airfields won't change much, if anything.

You're letting your emotions dictate a next response.

But, what we need is a strategy toward an achievable end condition that we can accept.

Until then, we're just removing options by taking feel-good actions that have consequences.

I'm thinking of the end game.. I want to see this war situation ended, and I think Assad has to go as part of making that happen. I'm not saying we should rush in necessarily, but then again, it's hard to predict the future. There comes a time when you just have to act and cross the bridges when you come to them.

Yep, you do not see shia doing terror attacks in Europe or here, but we side with the sunnis, and demonize the more benign shia. Assad's problem is he is shia, a sub sect of shia.

Shia are hardly benign and most Sunni are moderates... at least that's what you would experience in the Gulf States, Jordan, Kuwait and the UAE.

    Here is my post:

" Because there is really no easy solution. Assad is totally unacceptable but has Russian backing and the rebels are an unknown quantity with clear ties to ISIS and no guarantees that they will be even slightly more humanitarian than Assad.

Now if you actually have a solution please feel free to post it.

And just incidentally you should learn what genocide actually means."

You obviously think my pointing out your ignorance as to what genocide actually means is very rude, I just think of it as helping the educationally challenged.

Can't help but speak down to someone who knee jerk uses the term genocide without bothering to actually understand what the term means. But if you can't be bothered to look it up I can post a definition for you.

After 6 years of war in Syria I think it would be worth the risk to kill Bashar and Maher al Assad.

Lol, I've mentioned that 3 yrs ago , not here, but another news site, there's just no logical way forward for Syria with Assad there, the country's been bombed to the stone age, 10+ million refuges, 500000+ dead, 20 different rebel groups fighting, usa/ uk/France, isreal, turkey, Saudi, Iran, Russia, Jordan, all involved with their own agendas?

Around 6 years ago Obama said Assad had to go, then repeated it a couple years ago, but Obama didn't have the cahones to do it. Trump is a real American President. He actually does what he says. Obama was always talking, but short on accomplishment. Typical academic. Talk, talk, talk.

I agree with the first part - there is no chance of an acceptable solution under Assad.

As for the rest, we could knock him out with our military, but that's what we did in Libya. As in Libya, we haven't found adequate leadership among the revolutionaries.

Also, we are a nation of laws, not the law of the jungle. We need to be promoting a direction we believe in - even when the law of the jungle looks attractive.

Don't you ever "feel" like telling them to get their act together or else? I mean tell them "jackasses, you all figure it out".

mmm...clearly your inferiority complex stems from a lack of education, again... unfortunately you picked on the wrong person because I have a very decent education.
Private school, tertiary degree, multiple certificates in my field and my own company which I work very hard on.

Well then how come you don't know what genocide actually means? And what the heck is a tertiary degree? Is that like first grade, second grade and third grade?
