An American General stating that China's military is 'incredibly disturbing'...and THAT is supposed to be unbiased information from an unbiased source?

    Come on now....

China's economy is growing at a fantastic rate.

Naturally, so long as they keep the % of their GDP that they spend on their military the same...then their military is going to grow at a fantastic rate as well.

So if America's GDP doubled over the next ten years - would you not expect U.S. military spending to double as well?

BTW - apparently China spends less then 1/2 on her military then America does...based on % of GDP spent.

Where do you get your hard facts on the military from?

    Code Pink?

If you are an American then you should want to see America with the best weapons and the most kick-ass military.

Because otherwise Americans without the military advantage are going to needlessly die at the hands of the Chinese in some future war.

It sure would have been nice if the USA had "boosted indigenous production capabilities" instead of providing the investment for CHINA to do so with USA MONEY to save a dime on a pair of socks!

China plays chess while the USA plays checkers. We financed our own economic defeat, and now all China would have to do to defeat the USA in a military battle is simply cut off the flow of critical technology products that our business and utility infrastructure needs EVERY DAY!

We would need DECADES to duplicate Chinese manufacturing technology, and to recreate our now-defunct industries like electronic components, pumps, blowers, control technology, computers, hard drives, all that the Chinese have taken over for the WHOLE WORLD!

    Agreed.

We have a very shortsighted economic and trade policy.

The president - any president - doesn't think farther than 4 years into the future while Congress doesn't think at all.

This entire article isn't based on a perceived Chinese threat, it is simply a selling ploy for the Air Force to get more money to build more aircraft and increase the military industrial complex hold on the military.

If the General has ever looked at China for its international arms sales, it doesn't sell nuclear weapons to anyone. It has about 50 DF21 ICBM's and about a dozen DF50 ICBM's. In fact, China has been very timid with its nuclear arsenal and technology. In fact, China and the United States have been working together on nuclear proliferation.

it may be possible for China to go to war, but not very probable. And if China does go to war, a lot of things would have to go wrong if that scenario would become reality. But I do not see that in 20 years given that Taiwan and China are increasing its econmic ties, Japan and China have reduced tensions, ASEAN now has China as a trade parner, and so much more.

I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it. We're still spending around $700 billion (4.7% GDP) to China's $140 billion (2.0% GDP).
