Violence Up in Chicago - Worst Jan Since 2000

Mayor Emanuel scapegoated the last police commissioner but the newly appointed interim police leader has done no better and notes a chilling effect on preventative police activity. Shootings in the windy city were ~ 280 in Jan which is up ~ 60% from Jan 2012. Statistics over a narrow time frame can be unreliable but shootings have increased by double digit percentage increases over the last few years. Where in the advocacy group "Black Lives Matter" ??

Don't be a bit surprised if you hear nothing from the Left over this. It's almost become a regular routine.

After all, gun control in Chicago has been one of the most restrictive gun laws in this country among large US cities. Well, that is also among all law abiding citizens, not all the endless illegal guns that end up in the hands of hardened criminals.

A simple and intelligent response, a complement to your moniker. If you look at Chicago, the demographic is 1/3 Black 1/3 White and 1/3 Hispanic/other. Yet the African American population cause by far the most homicides. If you took the south side as city, it would be one of the most dangerous places in the world, once again a tribute to the Democratic Party and its policies. Blaming Whitey is just getting old.

Every single one of the guns used for crime and to murder people in Chicago are there just as illegally as the narcotics and gangs that sell them.

They are not worthless, they are helping their criminal voter base by keeping guns out of law abiding citizens hands. It is bad enough their criminal voter base is killing each other, so democrats are just trying to spare more criminal voters lives by taking away law abiding citizens opportunity to shoot back when they are victimized.

 

But the problem is that many of the victims are innocent minority children. And yet nothing is done. BLM focuses on the actions of those whose job it is to protect instead of focusing on those perpetrating the violence. If a case can be made for racism, this might be it.

 

Just because there are no gun stores doesn't mean all the guns are illegal. It just means there is no chance of regulating a God given right or a criminal mind. It means all anti-gun nuts are of slow intelligence or totalitarian motivated.

 

The shameful gun violence in Chicago continues to grow and it is due to Chicago for having wimpy gun control legislation on the books. Chicago must set a paradigm for the Nation to legislate the toughest gun control law ever imaginable. Then, Chicago will no longer have the shameful gun violence.

More people have lost their lives there to murder than all the U.S. KIA in Iraq and Afghanistan during the same time period.

They really should. The leadership in that city should be removed too. All of 'em. No way in eff hell should a city in what is supposedly a 1st-world nation have these rates. Yes bring in the guard, clean out the "leadership," remove all the bad guys.

 

And there are two other issues that fuel all this violence.

1) Most of this violence is gang-related, and the gangs are fueled by the drug trade. I would love to just suck the money right out of that trade.

2) No "real" work alternatives.

There are things that could be done, but they would require a national discussion and a sea-change of opinion.

 

Just tell them to call the police !

 

I'd actually like to see something like that. Possible declare a state of urban emergency and implement a curfew. Do police swat team sweeps using overwhelming numbers and firepower to raid known gang houses looking for illegal firearms & drugs and checking all those people inside for warrants and immigration status. Implement stop, question, and frisk policies in these neighborhoods. Implement and enforce a curfew and implement new temporary regulations restricting interference with a police officer performing their duty. And yes, allow citizens to arm themselves - this announcement would in itself result in a reduction in gang violence as the gang members perpetrating the violence might think twice if it was known that some in the neighborhoods could fight back. BLM could get behind an effort such as this if they would agree that saving black lives is the most important part of their charter instead of spewing anti police venum.

 

Sorry, but calling out the national guard won't help. They eventually have to go back home, and the trouble will start right back up.

The problem with America is in the cities. They're filled with violent children who know nothing except violence. They are illiterate ineducable drug-addled violent morons. And that's just the women!

Chicago already has some of the toughest legislation in the country. If anything you should be pissed off at them for going too far - now you must provide concealed carry permits everywhere as a matter of constitutional law.

At some point, when they have just completely banned guns, you're going to have to admit it's not the guns causing the problem.

 

All of the Chicago killings have happened under a total democrat chain of command. Democrat mayor, democrat president.

 

ONLY constant in Chicago is that it is, and has been forever, a Democrat fiefdom regardless of which party has the WH. Think of Chicago and one automatically thinks CORRUPTION and Democrat.

 

I like this post, but I don't know why BLM would need to get behind anything. The murder rates in Chicago has always been sky high and it's about time something gets done about it, BLM or no BLM.

They don't but they do have the capability to bring national media attention to the problem as they have done with the issue of police killings of minorities. They claim that they are involved in Chicago (although it is unclear if they started or sponsor the Violence Interupters) but they have not marched in protest of gang violence in Chicago (or any other cities with high crime rates like Baltimore or St. Louis). Expanding their scope to address this urban gang violence would give national media attention to the problem.
