What is the real reason to do this? That area around El Paso is a $hit hole. https://thehill.com/homenews/391038...ers-remarks-at-conservation-in-action-summit/ The Castner Range National Monument will preserve land in El Paso, Texas. A release from the White House notes that the site, at the Fort Bliss U.S. Army installation, was used for “training and testing” in the mid-20th century, and will require cleanup before opening up for public recreation. There is nothing special about that location and I can think of many, many, places that would be a better national monument.
I'm all for more monuments. Not tearing down old ones, just adding new ones. I see this as a good thing.
While I agree with you, a lot of people go way out of their way to visit a national monument. I would be pissed if when I got there, I saw a rocky hill with little vegetation.
Seriously? There are tons of mineral resources that could be beneficial to the US that will be unavailable
We don't have to exploit every last square foot of the continent. It is right that some lands should be set aside and reserved. Now if this particular place was particularly rich in some otherwise scarce resource I would agree with you
Governor of Nevada doesn't agree Nevada governor blasts Biden for locking up mineral-rich land: 'A historic mistake' | Fox News
If that's the case then I agree with the governor. It doesn't seem like there's anything particularly noteworthy about this land that would justify making some national monument like the natural beauty of the Grand canyon or Yellowstone
There's probably millions of dollars worth of lithium locked up under those desolate hills. Biden wouldn't know anything about it - they just shove a paper under his nose to sign then he reads the teleprompter statement.
I was on the fence that these 2 sites were appropriate... After reading that, I'm good with the Nevada site....
So what do you think the criteria should be for a national monument to be created? If I discover diamonds on my ugly and otherwise useless land, do you think it would be OK for the government to declare it a national monument? There should be something special about it IMO.
