National Review wrote a great article years ago about the hatred towards the NRA. The article noted that the NRA is a totem for white Christian conservative middle class males and every group that perceives white middle class Christian males as opposing their agenda, has adopted gun control as a retaliatory measure. NR was right

I guess there must be a blue moon out because you are actually admitting that you agree with something that Trump did.

I'm not a huge fan of the NRA. A lot of bad gun legislation passed with their approval (I know, they 'approved' it as a compromise... but in the long term that's still a losing strategy). I'm one of the ~7% non-black members of the National African American Gun Association. Mostly just because I think it'll be the non-white gun owners that end up being the most effective advocates against gun restrictions in 'Woke' America. But they're doing some good stuff too, and not tossing in with any gun control 'compromise'.

two things the NRA has done that lots of people ignore or don't know about.
    1) they were key in getting lots of states to change to SHALL ISSUE rather than no permits or may issue CCW permits
    2) their legislative wing helped fund lots of pro gun legal scholarship

The NRA used to be really great. They were founded mostly as a response to southern anti-Civil Rights (democrats) using gun control to target the armed black communities that kept shooting their KKK lynchmobs. But times kinda changed since then, and so did the NRA.

they finally realized in 1977 that gun control was not just a passing fad for Democrats who wanted to coddle criminals but didnt' want to be called soft on crime.

If we can't protect ourselves from criminals, we'll be desperate to further empower the govt to protect us. If we can protect ourselves from criminals, we wont want to infintitely empower the govt to do it for us.

    The govt wants infinite power.

It's almost like these anti-gunners don't understand two important facts..... For one.... The police are under no legal obligation to protect you.

And two.... When seconds count the most the police are only minutes away. It is any actual man's responsibility to be responsible for the safety of himself and his family and loved ones.

Not to subcontract that responsibility out to some government agent who may or may not be there in your time of need and may or may not actually do what's needed

people in fear are willing to cede more and more rights in the hope that will make them safe. that is why big government lefties want to disarm honest people and give criminals more freedom to attack the citizenry

Let's be honest.... I bet I can count on less than half of one hand how many people on this entire forum had ever even heard of a bump stock before the Las Vegas massacre.

The majority of gun homicides are with handguns and anyone that's going to sit here and try to pretend the Democrats don't ultimately want to ban handguns is either very naive or they are not being honest

if Democrats DO NOT try to ban handguns-it proves they are lying when they claim crime control is their motivation

If they DO TRY to ban handguns, they have lied when they said banning all or most guns is not their motivation

it's a no win position the assault weapon nonsense has put them in

I do, with the exception that flame throwers are available on the civilian market and so is muzzleloading artillery, as I pointed out.

I think they're a waste of ammunition, unless it's mounted on a tripod, or some other type of mount that stabilizes the platform.

And thanks to all of this discussion over the issue, pretty much everyone knows that you can now manually bump fire any semi-auto rifle and even some pistols.

You can even do it utilizing a rubber band. I guess we will be banning those next

I know but one mistake some make is that they assume that if something is not banned, it must be because it is protected by the second. example muzzle loading artillery. a 6 pounder is not an arm a citizen would keep and BEAR. it's more a tenth amendment issue then

With some practice, you don't even need a rubber band.

Some people do have muzzleloading cannons. Per ATF regulations you can only have 50 lb of black powder in one household
