Right. Good luck with that. It just as easy to change how we elect our president as it would be to rewrite the 2nd Amendment.

Anything in that old document which leaves gaps for corruption ought to be fixed up, not just left there in the "Oh, too hard to do" basket.

We can't even make Washington, DC a state!!

Outside the small federal district live more people than live in either of two other states.

Yet, we allow these citizens NO REPRESENTATION in the Senate or House!!

Congress determines federal taxes, Medicare and all sorts of other decisions where Washington, DC civilians get NO REPRESENTATION.

Representation is the root reason that our forefathers held a REVOLUTION. And, we just ignore that??

The catch is that there are too many small states that are Republican, making it hard to amend the constitution to give these citizens representation.

    @HonestJoe

You are confusing "faithless" are not the same as the left made up term "fake"...they are the same... the Democrats did the same and set the precedent ..... they are "alternate" electors and are legal.

""America needs 37 “faithless electors” from states Trump won""
Looks like they will have to explain the “Hamilton electors,” a group of electors who have sworn not to vote for Trump.
    https://www.cnn.com/2016/12/15/opinions/faithless-electors-save-america-piro/index.html

Meet the 'Hamilton Electors' Hoping for an Electoral College Revolt
    https://www.theatlantic.com/politic...oping-for-an-electoral-college-revolt/508433/

The last-ditch push for the Electoral College to stop Trump, explained
    https://www.vox.com/policy-and-poli...444/electoral-college-trump-hamilton-electors

""The faithless electors who opposed Donald Trump were part of a movement dubbed the "Hamilton Electors" co-founded by Micheal Baca of Colorado and Bret Chiafalo of Washington. The movement attempted to find 37 Republican electors willing to vote for a different Republican in an effort to deny Donald Trump a majority in the Electoral College and force a contingent election in the House of Representatives.""
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faithless_electors_in_the_2016_United_States_presidential_election

""A group of so-called “Hamilton Electors” — nine Democrats and one Republican who borrowed the Found Father’s name in a nod toward his call for deliberation — has been working to persuade at least 36 other Republicans to ditch Trump, just enough to block his immediate election and send the contest to the House of Representatives.""

Basically "fake electors is an alphabet soup media ruse design to criminalize the legitimate attempt to legally challenge an Election in the senate. The first thing you have to do according to the constitution is create a set of alternate electors to have on hand in case your challenge is successful these electors must be from the states in which you wish to challenge the outcome. Note Al Gore did the same thing in Florida in 2000 but the challenge never made it to the senate after Scotus told team Gore that they had to recount the whole state not just cherry pick a 3 or 4 counties in the democrat districts in south Florida.

Persons claiming to have authority to cast votes in the EC when, in fact, they have never been given that authority.

"Objecting" is not presenting a slate of electors and claiming them as legitimate.

    You seem confused...or dishonest.

@popscott has been called out on this desperate, dishonest, fake comparison before. Popscott, no, that wasn't he same law, and Trump's efforts were in complete violation of the ECA.

    FALSE.

Al Gore did challenge the outcome in Florida. There were serious technical problems with machines and ballots and some 61,000 ballots were not counted. Gore said if time were a concern, he would accept recounting less than the full state as long as the recount covered the area of the technical problems.

On December 8, the Florida Supreme Court had ordered a statewide recount of all undervotes, over 61,000 ballots that the vote tabulation machines had missed.

On December 9, the five conservative justices of the USSC stopped the count at the request of Bush, with Scalia citing "irreparable harm" that could befall Bush, as the recounts would cast "a needless and unjustified cloud" over Bush's legitimacy!!!

In dissent, Justice John Paul Stevens wrote that "counting every legally cast vote cannot constitute irreparable harm."

Having stopped the counting, the Supreme Court then chose Bush to be President.

Massive, massive, massive education fail. No, that's not even remotely close to what happened with Trump's fake elector scheme. Please read the ECA. Especially if you are so ill-informed that you think this is comparable to Gore. It is just mind-numbingly nonsensical to even state.

Do you really not get it or are you just trolling.

Faithless electors aren't alternates. They are exactly the same people, they're just choosing not to vote the way they initially pledged to do. That is an established concept which they are permitted to do (at federal level at least, they could face punishment at state level).

The scheme in 2020 that has been labelled "fake electors" involved entirely different people who hadn't been appointed by their state as electors. Documents were written up and signed which fraudulently claimed they were the electors appointed by the state.

Alternate slates of electors can be legitimate where the state election result is still being legally challenged, only to be used in the event of the result being overturned, but all the relevant legal challenges had been dismissed when the slates of "fake" electors were sent to Congress (despite some of the "fake" electors apparently being told otherwise).

I'm not commenting on the moral rights and wrongs of any of these things, by any party in any election, I am only identifying the factual differences between the two concepts, since the OP was apparently only asking about one of them.

    It is very easy.
When we vote for President the fact is that we are not DIRECTLY voting for the candidate. We are voting for electors.

Let's say we candidate X and candidate Y
Prior to the election John Smith and his fellow electors pledge to vote for candidate X if they win the election
David Wayne and HIS fellow electors pledge to vote for candidate Y if they win the election

After the votes are counted, John Smith and his fellow electors get the most votes. When the time comes they meet, sign an official certificate saying that they are voting for candidate X, just like they pledged.

Sometimes, though, something happens after the election and John Smith is suddenly not so sure that candidate X is not the best choice, so when he casts his vote he votes for candidate D.

This is called a "faithless elector", he did not keep the "faith" and voted for a different candidate than he had originally pledged for. This is not a crime. Some states impose civil penalties for doing it. Other states actually remove the elector and bring in someone else to vote in his place.

Now if David Wayne and his fellow electors don't like that result there is not a damn thing they can do about it. But IF they decide to get together, create a fake certificate claiming to be the official electors and sign that fake certificate saying that they are voting for candidate Y, those are FAKE electors and that is illegal.

And as long as you refuse to do any homework, or read, you can keep telling yourself that. Objective reality and I will be over here waiting for you when you decide you are willing to learn.

Thanks. Do you agree it seems totally unnecessary to have these electors?

But the "fake electors" in 2020 weren't legitimately appointed by the state (certainly not the ones in Georgia, that's why they're facing trial over it).

If a candidate gets 270 electors, they become president.

Trump failed to get 270 electors, so folks like Chesbro worked on getting fake electors to replace Biden electors:

    https://apnews.com/article/nevada-gop-fake-electors-trump-4c77ea628e23413f2af3b969ec8e8603

This is a serious crime. Chesbro plead out, promising to help identify and convict others who worked to create fake Trump electors in their attempt to defeat our DEMOCRACY!
