Allow me to clear up the confusion here and say what left-wing media isn't prepared to say (and what right-wing media will never say): our government DID get it wrong on masks, they WERE and ARE wrong on masks. We never should have rescinded our mask guidance for the exact reason that health entities and US governments are now being forced to acknowledge: low vaccination rates & high risk variant spread.

are you implying that vaccines do not work?

Have you reviewed the death rate figures recently released by the UK with regard to the Delta Variant? ( it's a fraction of 1 % of those known infected))

please feel free to mask up. In fact, I might wear my mask while fishing 30 miles offshore. What if the spores of Covid are blowing offshore?

The reason for the public being told that masks were unneeded was the fact that after China stopped exporting masks to the USA and the world because China wanted to protect their own people, the USA did not have any. The USA even little ability to manufacture it themselves, even if government leaders cared to seriously develop and manufacture in large scale.

The USA has little ability to do anything anymore, especially anything needed for manufacturing technology.

So people like Fauci could NOT promote using masks (real masks especially, a piece of cotton doesn't qualify) at the reality of mask riots that would result until China returned to work after overcoming their own pandemic crisis.

Don't matter if the death rate is .0000000001% of those infected, FEAR! PANIC! HYSTERIA! RUN IN CIRCLES, SCREAM AND SHOUT! (you know that's coming, right?)

Make sure you have two masks on at all times.

If what you say is true, when very good quality domestically produced masks became not only available but so common they piled up on warehouse shelves, Fauci would have helped Americans get them, not continued to tell Americans not to use them.

Unless the government is providing me with more access to N95 masks, I don't want to hear it.

Their reasons for being wrong then (lying) were stupid. People needed to know how to protect themselves and we can always use a reminder of just how cancerous the cancer nation of China, that is a cancer on this planet, is. I couldn't buy N95s at the start but I was able to fabricate something that was basically as effective by researching why N95s work; electrostatic barriers and what not. I was actually making no-stitch, heat sealed 5-6 layer custom fit masks for almost all of 2020, got damn good at it too.

But this thread is about the stupid reasons why our government is and has been wrong now stemming from the recent CDC unmasking guidance. There was ZERO scientific or medical urgency or substantiation for changing that guidance given the rate of vaccinations we had + the threat of variants. The only reasons for changing that remains is a political one; the Biden Administration needed a distraction from its utterly abysmal first 100 days. But that fact aside we are still under the threat of this pandemic, Delta and Delta+ are raging and many more lives will be lost. We need a return to masks NOW or we risk a return to shutdowns and product shortages later.

It takes about a month after diagnosis for someone to die from the virus. If that is accepted our death rate is currently at around 0.5%. Current daily average of cases is 24000 (3 day running average) which means that 120 of those tested positive yesterday will die from the virus by the end of the month. Our case numbers are rising as rapidly as in the second wave and our current daily case numbers are at the same number as the peak in the second wave. And most adults have been vaccinated

not everyone who contracts covid gets tested. In fact, the majority are unreported so the "death rate" that mask aficionados like to quote; is far from accurate

mask up if you like, it's your choice. Deny science all that you want and demonstrate that you do not believe in the vaccine by masking up

Also, masking up does provide a sense of moral superiority and some need to have that feeling

People: you know how you stop the COVID hysteria? Just stop talking about it. Once in a while, someone will get the sniffles and get better. Once in a while, a 95 year old woman will die of a virus as she lies dying of other things in a nursing home. This is called life.

Covid was bad. And I think it was caused by a US funded lab in China. It was a bio weapon. But it could have been so much worse. As it is, our responses to this have done some 300% more damage than if we'd just sanctioned China, left the lying and treacherous WHO and gone on with our lives.

The 120 per day that will die will definitely have died

And its becoming harder and harder to get the data due to so many States, particularly red ones, that have drastically rolled back testing and reporting. Florida just cut its daily reporting of cases and deaths and AFAIK the DeathSantis Administration discontinued it's ArcGIS dashboard which was an incredibly important tool for tracking local trends. These people want to believe that COVID is gone so much they are actively doing everything they can to disrupt the collection and dissemination of information that can show otherwise. I think its criminal. I wish the Biden Administration would sign an EO to force them to resume the testing/counting/reporting.

A report is being published in JAMA relating to the devastating affects of masks on children. CO2 levels of the masked children were 14,000PPM (the highest was 25,000 PPM). The long term effects of exposing millions of children to CO2 levels THREE TIMES THE LEGAL LIMIT for extended periods of time remains to be seen. I would expect a slight amount of irreversible brain damage (maybe a loss of 1-5 IQ points).

Basically if you masked your child, you HARMED THEM..... perhaps irreversibly.

The children were not breathing in air where the carbon dioxide levels inhaled were 6-fold higher than acceptable levels set by the German government; they were not in a sealed box with no air!

Odd that according to many anti-maskers the masks are useless at stopping the virus, a bit like using a chain link fence to catch flies, but suddenly the mask is able to stop gas molecules hundreds/thousands of times smaller than the virus.

I am continually astonished, dumbfounded, nonplussed, amazed and just in awe of the amount of super concentrated stupidity which finds its way onto any thread which touches, however peripherally, on politics, climate change, social policy, gender equity and race. I've never believed and would have wagered very large sums of money against the idea that such an overwhelming abundance of stupid could possibly exist in this country. I am so wrong and so broken hearted to see how wrong I was.

You doubt there is good information in a peer reviewed publication of a randomized clinical trial, or you doubt @truth and justice is capable of digesting that information?

Honestly, everyone was in a panic. No one really knew the right course, no one had a central plan. We are not a military government.
It did not help that China ignored our standards of decency and made matters worse.
Monday morning quarterbacking is little more than a forest of low hanging fruit for bored “urnalists”.
