What's going on with all these extreme threads lately?
Not only are some presented in a manner to elicit extreme responses, but the subject matters are rather disturbing, to say the least.
Look, this forum allows for a wide range of opinions, and that is fine. But some rather absurd themes seem to emerge, more so within the last week or so.
I hope its ok to ask if this is being observed, not only by other members, but by our lovely mod staff?

Political acrimony is the worst I've ever seen it....

Discounting fear and uncertainty surrounding this horrendous economy, hyper defensive, shrill True Believers are being forced to face the abject failure and wholesale rejection of their delusional ideology...

and those who've always known childlike idealism cannot survive reality....

are rubbing their noses in it.

Yeah,,,Obama is toast and it's pretty much an accepted fact, so everybody is sort of on hold. His plan was so absurd, more of the same rhetoric he's hard to take serious..People pretty much know it's just a campaign gimmick, and a bad one, but it's all he's got.

Gone are the smarter Liberals, they wont defend it, they know better, actually many of them are upset that's all the Dems have is him,,,their stuck. Clinton would have made a much better President, and that's sooo obvious it hurts...It has to be very upsetting to the Clinton people..

Not as upsetting to the ones that gave him the Nobel peace prize though...LOL....Bummer!

But why all the posts suggesting violence and hatred? Is that desperation too?

Do I need to 'Bump' my old thread of "Anarchy is coming to the U.S.?" [IMG]

Idle and angry ppl (some thru the economy, some addicted to entitlements, some just rebellious with time on their hands---the 'reasons' for unrest are endless) and a total breakdown in the morals of society that have been promoted by Hollywood thru ramped violence and gore, while adding the 'well-meaning,' outspoken celebrities instigation in stirring the pot, ALL fan the flames of what we are seeing in this country (and around the world).

We are living in 'exponential' times, where everything is Xtreme & accelerated...

The blossoming new MSM is exposing more and more truth. Truth has been trumped by sensitivity for a few decades now, via political correctness, moral relativism, social justice etx.

This shift produces a reaction from both sides of the political spectrum, generally the left and the right.

    1. The leftists have basically been exposed as having a failed ideology. Global austerity measures, smaller government realizations, budget balance etc pointedly, unescapeably highlight that failure. Other areas such as say, the top ten fiscally worst, crime, poverty etc cities in America are all "Liberal/Progressive" since the 1960's...8-10 being 100% of that time frame, as Liberal/Progressive. As more and more of these types of truths emerge, through the non purchased new MSM...it is producing vitriolic anger from the all components of the leftist spectrum, and this forum would reflect that increase of course.

    2. The rightists sense this shift, and feel vindicated, as they have long espoused (decades, and in the case of the Progressives almost a century) the fallacy of the leftists ideologies. Feeling vindicated regarding this long battle is not to be confused with the standard my guy is the better POTUS left and right type smack down talk. It is a more fundamental, core issues victory...and that is producing a more in your face type postings. Not nearly as vitriolic (although there is some), quite possibly for the simple fact that the right has learned to stop giving ammo to those who are the masters of spinning even the tiniest amount of angst, as hatemongering, racist etc.

    3. The above reactions of both sides, would IMO, produce the more extreme threads you noted Shangrila. The fundamental game has had a dramatic change, and PF would reflect that I think.

Mods HAVE noticed it. And as someone else noted above, it's kind of the sign of the times. It's somewhat reflective of what's going on now in our country...the fear and desperation. PLUS, IMO, this president has actually set race relations back. I had thought he might do the opposite, but he has not. Everything he said in his 2004 great speech at the DNC was just made-up rhetoric on his part. Remember when he said the great line---the one that caused me to run out and buy his book? "There are no red states, there are no blue states, there is The United States of America." He's done nothing since then, BUT make sure everyone feels division.... along political lines, racial lines, and socio-economic lines.

It's going to take a long time to mend these divisions and fix what he has broken once we get him out of office.

As far as the threads----we continue to delete those for flamebait which appear to be started for no other reason than asking for a fight. But in keeping with the spirit of promoting free speech here at PF and because threads started reflect what is going on in society, there will naturally be some we all don't personally like. Threads need substance. Their purpose is to promote good discussion and good debate and it would do every member some good to re-read the rules for starting a thread:

    (5) No flame-bait threads or posts. Threads or posts where the sole intent (either by topic, title, images or language) is to elicit emotionally charged responses or personal attacks from others will be deleted. This especially goes for any form of hate speech. It is up to the moderators' discretion to determine whether or not a given post falls into a particular category. Continuing to start flame-bait threads and/or continuation of making flame-bait posts may lead to infractions and eventual banning.

    (7) Whenever starting a thread, give it some thought first. Try to make a decision in which category it would belong. Try to give it a title that describes its intent or its content. Try not to duplicate other threads that already exist. When in doubt, ask a moderator in a Private Message.

Well,,Obama has to follow the plan he put together with basically a class War fare tone,,[Poor against the rich], like I said it's all he's got and the smarter folks are disgusted with it. He needs to rally his base so they will vote, nothing does it better than hate...This is pure Chicago type politics and is dangerous, it is how riots start, and this is why you are hearing about violence so much..
It's like that speech he had before, calling us the enemy....

Poor people do not need much of an excuse to riot, and Obama is giving them a reason,,...''The Great Communicator'', what a fraud....This is not the act of a intelligent person, it's the act of a desperate one...

    Great responses, thank you.
Sadly, nothing from those who start these threads, perhaps an explanation of sorts.
Its really bothersome to think that this is a sign of the time. We truly must seek healing, an awakening of sorts, and yes, get rid of this fraud in the WH, by vote, of course.
Sadly, it seems that more than BO, but rather most politicians, are benefiting from the underlying dissatisfaction and friction we see in our nation, and I hope that people wake up to the fact that it doesn't serve us well to stand against each other.

It's not just disappointing to see him do the opposite of what people voted for him for, and the damage he is doing,,I truly believe it's dangerous...

I think it all started with Barry Goldwater and his "extremism in the defense of liberty is not extreme" speech. Reagan picked up on Goldwater's extreme hatred (er, defense of liberty) of the poor and middle class crap and Bush/Rove, well, they were the worst.

Ah, yes, complain about hyperpartisan bull(*)(*)(*)(*) and then throw some more of it out.
    Talk about delusional.
90% of the hyperpartisan troll threads are started by right-wingers because they see that as their best tactic in the upcoming election season.
Throw enough lying (*)(*)(*)(*) out and hope that some of it sticks in the heads of idiots who may either stay home on voting day or maybe vote for their side.

    Utter nonsense.
Anyone who thinks that what is wrong with America today can be laid at the feet of one side, or that they have some sort of headlock on "truth" or "reality" is completely delusional.
That's the sort of thinking that turns people into useful idiots for the special interests and the demagogues who work as their lapdogs.

Your post is part of the problem.
Assuming that you actually give a rat's ass about the deplorable conditions, start by looking in the mirror, do some serious thinking, and accept the responsibility that your side has for the problems, then get back to us.

If I saw threads here taking that sort of adult approach, I would be happy to discuss our side's shortcomings in the same way.
But when I see idiots posting hysterical rubbish and expecting others to try to argue intelligently against their rants, I have to laugh.
The only thing that they can expect is a virtual slap on the face in return.

That's the real cause of the useless crap that is drowning forums like this.

Why so hateful? Can't we express the same thoughts in a less confrontational manner?

The truth hurts. Failed false progressive principles hurt. You are angry, and, I don't care what people of your ilk think.

    Why so defensive?
Just because you fawned over his ignorant, partisan prattle doesn't make it any less of a myopic rant.
I have little patience for that sort of foolishness.

It is what it is Shangrila. There are an awful lot of people such as myself, who have watched "modern liberalism" and Progressives, tear down society for their pipe dreams, and are sick of it.

The poor are always still there when they are in power, the rich, the homeless, the working poor, all the classes, ghettos and mansions...yet they pontificate as the path to solution.

"Now it doesn't require expropriation or confiscation of private property or business to impose socialism on a people. What does it mean whether you hold the deed to theĀ—or the title to your business or property if the government holds the power of life and death over that business or property? And such machinery already exists. The government can find some charge to bring against any concern it chooses to prosecute. Every businessman has his own tale of harassment. Somewhere a perversion has taken place. Our natural, unalienable rights are now considered to be a dispensation of government, and freedom has never been so fragile, so close to slipping from our grasp as it is at this moment."

    Ronald Reagan.

You are witnessing far more than simple "hyperpartisan bull(*)(*)(*)(*)", my projecting leftist enemy....

you are witnessing full blown ideological warfare...a war the overreaching, fully exposed, big government progressive left is in the process of badly losing.
