They can't control people if they know a lucrative trade skill. and they can't indoctrinate them if they dont' go to college
    Come on man!
    You know this

How sad. I was an apprentice in a bike shop when I was a kid. I started off fixing flats and ended up learning how to weld/braze and build bikes. Dealing with customers was good experience that gave me a head start in my own business.

Well, that was counterproductive. I guess he rather push people towards going heavily into debt, of which the taxpayers can pay a part of their chosen expenditure, then to actually learn a skill that will serve them the rest of their life, even if they move on to other things.

University is not for everyone. Neither are the trades. Why does Biden think it's a good idea to reduce access and/or assistance to learn a trade from the actual tradesmen versus a degree? Some is explained in this article. I would like to find an update to it.

Teaching people skills makes them less likely to be dependent on government. We can't have people pulling their own weight!

For starters, the EO 13801 was more pomp and circumstance than reality. The US Government does have some apprenticeship programs available ranging from the military to other fields with the EO 13801 only affecting the federal workforce or its federal contractors. But the funding has to come from Congress and even a GOP congress would not fund such programs. Second, the rescission does not affect private enterprise apprenticeships or state government apprenticeships. However, optics on this do look bad, but the reality is that Trump's EO was more show than reality.

The EO 13801 was for federal government apprenticeships. They are still there prior to the EO being signed and will still be there after the rescission.

all right. i believe in apprenticeship. i received a paycheck and the company paid for the class work (which resulted in an aa 2 year degree and was interesting enough that i continued to my engineering degree. union membership was another benefit. the company had an investment in me and i might still be there if we had more contracts back then.

what i don't like is a program that would have the government pick up the tab for a %e wages and the class work. the company ends up with cheap labor and no investment leading to termination when the apprenticeship is over so that a new sucker can be put through the wringer.

Apprenticeships have not gone away. They still exist…in all trade fields and in white collar jobs.
