http://au.news.yahoo.com/a/-/newshome/16317592/bushfire-forces-end-to-15-month-tree-sit-protest/ An anti-logging activist who has spent more than a year up a tree in Tasmania's south has been forced down by a bushfire. Miranda Gibson, 31, had been up the tree since December 2011, protesting against native logging in the state. Her supporters say police advised her to come down because an uncontrolled blaze was moving quickly toward the 60-metre platform. Ms Gibson said it was a difficult decision to evacuate, but necessary. "The fire's only about two kilometres from where I am so it's quite close and potentially a high level of risk if it comes this way," she said. She was greeted with hugs from supporters, including former Greens leader Bob Brown. Ms Gibson appeared overwhelmed and took some time to compose herself before talking to the media. The activist says she is relieved to be reunited with friends and family. She had recently had sleepless nights, with thick smoke and flames visible from the top of her tree. Ms Gibson did not give a lot of details about her 15-month experience but said isolation was the hardest part. It is not clear if the activist will resume her tree-sit once the fire is contained. =========================================================================== What sort of person spends 15 months up a tree? Why? What does this bizarre behaviour prove, or hope to acheive?
i bet that tree didn't need fertilizer with all the chocolate brownies and creamy soda raining down on it for 15 months. Activist or in need of a psychiastrist????
This story reminded me of a Chinaman in ancient times, who just sat in a chair and grew his fingernails until they grew their way out the front door of his house, and across the road, into the laundromat car park. I just thought "what a foktwat."
Yarloop fire tore through the town in seven minutes... Death toll rises in Australian bushfires Mon, Jan 11, 2016 - FIERY CATASTROPHE: Residents of Yarloop said the blazes tore through the town in seven minutes, and one official said the worst of the bushfire season was yet to come
Some people have such strong feelings and superb willpower, I think she deserves the Victorian Cross. To those other commentators, you are a bunch of redneck Liberal/Nationals with no compassion in yourselves, what a shame. Obviously the forests and our nature doesn't mean anything to you, unfortunately. Regards
As a protest, its stupid. Did it actually stop any foresting? If they wanted and were allowed to cut the tree's down they probably would have just worked around her. It's just a silly stunt so she can feel like she has achieved something.... her sacrifice is for her own purposes, not the forests. Unfortunately the link in the OP didn't work and I'm too lazy to google others, so I'm presuming and inviting more info! Sympathizing with her cause and ignoring the (likely) realities of the actual situation is childish or of simpletons. But that is how the left rolls, slogans and shouts, shallow sentiments appealing to sensitivities for selfish purposes. With protest parties like the Green's it's for membership, for workplace sabotage like the ALP its for disruption and disturbance of progress to keep the workforce blue collared and enslaved to the party.
