What The Hell Did People Do Before Civilization?

I recently moved to be closer to my university and forgot my power cable for my PC. Of all the things I had to forget from dish rags to underwear to food I had to forget the one essential item. We don't have cable because my roommates and I watch TV over the interwebz so for a day and a half I had no form of audio/visual entertaintment.

I am old enough that I grew up before the internet age. While that is a borderline abusive childhood I at least had my SNES and Genesis and cable TV to keep me civilized. To people that grew up before cable TV and the internet and before video games..........how in God's name did you survive that? Did you literally just bang rocks together? I always thought that was a joke but I was literally making paper airplanes out of junk mail flyers. Now wonder there have been so many wars throughout history.......people did it out of boredom.

 

Party lines and dial-up phones.
After chores and homework, we ran the hood, cut new trails in the woods, built tree forts, had mock wars. delivered newspapers, beaches in the summertime, camping in the fall, scouts, bike riding everywhere and at 15 years old, I had a regular part time job.
There was always something that needed done. Back in those days, work came before phone calls to friends to make plans. We walked in the neighborhood and talked with our neighbors.
Nowadays, people find excuses to spend their days and nights on media access. They tan in booths, ride non-moving bicycles, jog in place, but seem to be unable to unhook. FOMO has replaced the real world.
