    Cronyism, that's the justification.

What's the justification for the federal code of regulations totaling 1-2hundred thousand pages?

    Cronyism, that's the justification.

Progressives exclaim, "the corporations control the government". No chit.

They exclaim, "give them more regulatory power through the monopoly of law and force called government"....wait.

I like the phrase corporate communists, over cronyism.

That's a nice oxymoronic term that exemplifies the absurdity of the situation. Corporate Communists.

Sorry if I hi-jacked the thread at all, but thought these added to the conversation.

I wonder when is the last time a bureaucrat fine-tooth-combed the federal regulations?

Bleeping never happened, they just keep piling up. They were paid for, in cold hard...i mean hot soft cash.

But this is where we disagree, pimptight. I don't trust regulators to correct the situation, I expect them to continue to be worthless. Therefore, I believe we need to cut off the spigot. Cut off their ability to regulate and legislate. Localize and decentralize. Yes, it would be a major change in the entire system, but that's my pie in the sky.

In reality, I'm afraid we're quite doomed.

I never consider my threads hijacked, I just like the conversation. Good contribution.

The problem as I see it is:

    1. The government has a monopoly over the use of force and taxation.

    2. Government officials are elected based on recognition. If a million ads are aired they will pretty much definitely win.

    3. That individuals have the right to say whatever they want, including to advocate for a particular candidate.

    4. Thus politicians have an incentive to provide benefits for these individuals/collections of individuals to advocate for their reelection with their monopoly power over the use of force.

These benefits come in the form of a complicated tax code designed to allow the richest of the rich to not pay tax (out of corruption, not libertarian ideals), mass subsidies and piles of regulation all designed to exclude the little guy from competition.

The problem remains no matter what you do to government: you can't get rid of free speech, but you can't get rid of this problem either. The only solution is to get rid of government itself :p

My thoughts exactly. No matter what you do, special interests, cronies, and the well-off will manipulate the monopoly of force we call our loving government. Government, the entity granted the power to rise above Natural Law; killing and stealing and frauding allegedly for the greater good.
