So where do we put the refugees...
Let me throw this at you...
I would imagine the refugees arent going to get here for say a month or more...
If that is the case why not place them on a temporary basis within the larger sporting stadiums in Australia...
eg Melbourne Cricket Ground....Homebush Stadium etc...(after the Grand Finals of course...)
They would have to be housed in tents, but being within these huge stadiums, they would have
all the amenities which are available to the public such as toilets, foods stalls, showers...
If they do it properly they could even have a space somewhere for the kiddies to play...
All the while they would be within the stadium and not scattered all over the place...this
would assist in security, so as they would not just disappear into the communities before
the authorities had sufficient time to process them...
However, on the other hand...go to an american thread and you will see that no-one in America wants
them......sad isnt it....maybe the Queen could open up a few hundred acres to start building
housing...even have Robin Hood there to keep an eye on the refugees...no...she wouldnt do that...
her deer would have no-where to graze.....but what would I know....we take two years to build a
roundabout....how could we handle a task of this magnitude...although it didnt take them long
to hand over Randwick racecourse to the Pope for the Popeathon......
Imagine in a months time, planes landing all over Australia with 12000 refugees..
Where do they go when they get off the planes....what's the plan onion boy...........
Of course, I could ask the question...how many muslim countries would accept 12000
    christians in the same circumstances.....answer....none....what a conundrum..maybe
they could all start trekking to Russia....Putin is a Syrian sympathiser...isnt he....let him house them.........
Whatever is proposed by onion boy, it will be a logistic nightmare.....and a reason to put the GST
    up to pay for it......hhhhmmmm

Whats your plan onion girl? Easy to ask questions but harder to come up with answers.

I'd wish they were all on TPV's so they could move back when IS is knocked off, but the entire mob is probably also wanted by Assad, so they might 'have' to stay permanently.

In this case there is no real need for long term 'storage' of them like the asylum seekers need to process, this is more about health checks, filing and a bus ticket to the Centrelink..... for whatever services they provide to getting refugee's started in our community.

So in that regard, I'd just reopen the Woomera camp, make it a big humanitarian exercise for the Army. That way the cost has more then one use.

We can't afford them. We are already running a deficit budget, that means we are borrowing money just to live ourselves. We would have to either borrow enough extra money (with interest) to look after 12,000 extra people or take that money off people here in Australia. Why haven't we already done this for 12,000 needy Australians? Why are needy foreigners being put to the front of the que while needy Australians are being pushed aside?

That is exactly right, what should be said is yes we'll take refugee as soon as we pay of our debts, take care of our homeless, unemployed and run the budget at surplus. Otherwise lefties if you want refugees then you personally pay for and house them, they'll be totally your responsibility.

12,000 refugees is nothing. It will have zero impact on the economy - in fact it may even have some beneficial impacts.

Please remember Australia has about 70,000 migrants arriving through the normal immigration process every year and over 100,000 temporary 457 holders every year.

Remember that these people will be sent to live across Australia - there are a LOT of towns and cities beyond the capital cities - this is a list of towns in WA alone.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_towns_in_Western_Australia

A lot of these regional towns actually want these people as they can not fill local jobs. For example, Albany has asked for 100-200 to be sent there urgently with the local abattoir saying they have 100 permanent jobs available for them that they have not being able to fill. Go to any of the small remote towns and there are lots of such cases. I am currently in Norseman, a small town in the middle of nowhere on the edge of the Nullarbor. The Pharmacist is a refugee, the baker is a refugee, the mechanic is a refugee. They all get along well and are good neighbours. In fact, without them, the town would probably have died.

Would those towns that you mention be mining towns that have literally closed down because mining
    is finished in that town...
I tend to disagree about having zero impact on the economy.GST will go up Onion boy and Jethro just need an excuse to put it up and this will be that excuse.....and the combined
total of government assistance is already being calculated well into the millions...
My concernt atm is how are they going to be housed when they first land...you cant just
load them all into buses and send them all over Australia without being processed...hence my original suggestion
    about football stadiums....
I really feel that there has to be another solution rather than flying them halfway around the world to a country
    about to go into recession....

Oh, I didn't think you were seriously suggesting 'creating' a new town for them out back, now 'that' would be expensive LOL.

Well they arent going into our stadiums, the finals are coming up. Since we're a monarchy the only actual 'solution' you had was to build them towns. Shame I have to make sense of your own posts for you...
