Asheville, NC | One of North Carolina’s most notorious plastic surgeons is appearing on trial this week, after mistakenly performing a sex change operation on a woman who merely wanted to turn back the clock on her appearance

Dr. Andrew J. Carlson is accused of inverting the files of two of his female patients, a mistake which led him to perform the wrong surgeries on both women.

According to the plaintiff, 57-year old Kelly Norton, she went into surgery at the Buncombe County Plastic Surgery Center in January 2016, to have a facelift and minor liposuction.

Instead, Dr. Carlson performed a complete sex change operation, including the removal of her breast and a complete genital reconstructive procedure.

“I wanted to look good for my husband, but he turned me into a man!” she told CBS in an exclusive interview broadcasted yesterday. “I’m a good Christian and I wanted to stay the way God had created me. I’ve never wanted a sex change, and I have no desire to live the rest of my life as a man. This is a nightmare, and I just want to go back to the way I was.”

Ms Norton is suing the surgeon for $2.25 million, to pay for the corrective surgery and the “emotional distress” generated by his mistake.

The surgeon should call Obama adminstration experts to testify that her genitals are absolutely irrelevant to her gender and the only problem is that her and her husband are transphobic bigots for which the doctor should only have to pay counseling fees, if that. Besides, she should still be able to use the ladies only bathroom and shower so what's the big deal other than her and his bigotry and transphobia?

Change the "m" to "b" in "$2.2 million" and you have my judgment, with - if possible - the doctor be banned from the medical field for life.

As sex change operations become mainstreamed I wonder if this sort of disaster is going to become more common.

I read about a woman (just happened to be pregant at the time) who went into a "woman's health clinic" for what was supposed to be a minor procedure under anesthesia, and instead they mistakenly performed an abortion on her. That's a potential problem when abortion clinics begin to try to offer a whole spectrum of different health services.

Charts, not files, and other methods are used to identify a patient, each patient has a bar coded wrist band, most patients can talk, and are asked various questions that serve to further verify a patients identity, a Physician is not the only Clinician involved in Patient care, various others also verify the identity of the patient during continuing and ongoing patient care.
