When did 'You can't prove it's false' = 'It's proven!"

I see so many people, generally from the antiscience crowd (usually highly religious) who think that because you can't disprove what they say that it somehow means that their belief is proven without a doubt.

The fact that I can't disprove that invisible faeries control the temperature is hardly compelling evidence for their existence.

If you had your fairy glasses on you would be able to see the fairies.

Why would we need to disprove it? It takes you to candy mountain and then steals a kidney.

Not really, God is given the characteristic of being infinite.

With an infinite set of parameters, there are infinite possibilities...if it can
    happen, it probably already has.

Science has yet to disprove the possibility of God...Science merely proclaims that God is not necessary
in the creation of and continuance of the known Universe...Science has never proclaimed that God therefore does not
exist because God is not necessary to explain natural processes. Science just says that God isn't needed as an explanation.

Emphasis on known Universe...because we can only study what we can observe. and who is to say there is not more than simply meets the eye.

The Universe could have multi-dimensions that humans simply can't observe, yet they still exist...even Science has limitations
    beyond the theoretical sometimes.

Who gave this characteristic to god? How does one determine what characteristics should be given to something that cannot be measured or experienced with any of our senses or instruments in any way?

It's not a hurdle that science needs to jump. Nor could it because that's not how science works. Like previous posters have already mentioned, you can't just make an untestable claim (like the existence of fairies) and expect it to be true by default because it cannot be tested. If that was how science worked, then any conceivable creature or entity exists by default.

Any scientific theory can be disproven, just because it has not only strengthens it.

    Science is falsifiable.

PlassÂ’ theories are not falsifiable. There is no experiment that can be done to prove or disprove if he was correct.

*Sigh* Where do you people come from? Seriously.

When did "I don't believe in God so therefore religion is a sham and you all believe in *insert fruity magical reference here* and that makes me seven times better than the rest you" become so popular???????

Give it a rest. Go back to your corner. Nobody cares. We all have the right to believe in what we want, no matter what it is.

Personally I think the highly atheist and the highly religious should stop coming here, trolling each other, filling the forum with BS threads, and subjecting us all to their idiocy. /2cents

Not really, your thread just presented an excellent reason to say my thoughts on this subject. It'd directed more towards the entire board and all these ridiculous uuber-God or Uuber-No-God types of debaters that have to flood every topic with nonsense. It's not directed towards you, or even the thread directly.

Still my point stands, board-wide or not. It's out of control here.

I think part of the reason that people talk about these types of things on these forums is because it is not polite to talk about religion or politics with friends/family. This is the best place to bring up these issues.

Replying with a fallacy is a fail. I can reply with a similar fallacy, "no one asked you to reply or even read his comment", and we still wouldn't take this thread any farther. Lets avoid fallacies shall we?

In some respects yes, but in others repsects no. Most of us come here to debate, and basically enjoy the political field with others who agree and disagree with us. It's just as impolite to flood the topics with that sort of content, and ruin the experience for the rest of us, who don't care for either side. I believe in a lot of things, but my ego isn't big enough to anonymously destroy anyone's experience on this forum because I can't say my opinion and let go....no....the two sides have to battle, taking the topic so far off topic that half the board ignores it. It's sad to be honest.

This is an epidemic among our more Conservative (= neo-fascist) members.

Highly annoying to say the least.

I wasn't the one complaining, so the statement would not apply to me.
