When Will it be Safe to “Come Out” as a Proud American?

…As a Harvard program graduate and the proud father of two daughters and a niece with Harvard graduate degrees, I have been dismayed at the woke, “shut up” if you disagree with us culture at Harvard, the Ivy league schools, and universities in general.

What surprised me about Ms. Hartman’s speech was not only what she said, but how brave she was to give it. What did not surprise me was that she received no applause, no recognition, no standing ovation for her profound courage.

All that greeted her from the crowded Harvard Chapel was silence.

The fact that there, in deepest wokedom and despite the threat of career cancelling that goes with deviancy from the ultra-left dogma, this young bright woman rejected the common wisdom that infects so many young people.

She would not self-censor. She would not muzzle herself even though she knew that what she was about to say would be a threat to her career. She spoke her mind.

And this was her profile in courage.

America was founded on life, liberty and equal opportunity. We celebrate its founding based on Western classical liberalism each Fourth of July as enunciated by our Founding Fathers. That this brave young woman could bravely “come out” for our country’s values, patriotism, and goodness—even while standing in the midst of Harvard’s woke culture, at woke Ground Zero–there is hope for America.

~ America is not looking too good these days. Unfortunately the upper government agencies are more corrupt than many realize — as are most politicians on Capitola Hill. Without a DOJ/FBI/CIA working with honesty and loyalty to the citizens, corrupt and dishonest politicians will never be investigated openly, convicted and incarcerated. Today they thrive with impunity.
There is also the obvious dumbing-down of a significant portion of society by media and government.
We have much to overcome and it is now up to "we the people " to force reluctant representatives to quit , or do the will of the people — all the people.
Hopefully the majority of Americans make the correct decisions. Things could get ugly before there is improvement.

 

We just need that improvement before it is too late to save our constitutional republic as we know her. I’m just glad she had the courage to take our message straight into domestic enemy territory and tell them it to their faces. It will take reality checks like hers to wake them up.

 

This is so true. It's almost like they are pushing us intentionally into a civil war.

Doesn't it stroke you even a bit that things got pretty horrible when that worthless putz/politician biden took office? Go back and read some facts on how things were at the end of obamas terms. This is a continuation so just keep voting your way, what could possibly go wrong?

 

True, Republican did stack the supreme court with religious fanatics, that will take a while to correct itself

Getting Conservatives on the SC was the corrective it needed. That's Trump's greatest contribution. Well, second greatest contribution, maybe. His actual greatest contribution was keeping Hillary the Hag and her troop of flying monkeys out of the White House

Jan 20, 2021 certainly marks the beginning point of our greatness receding again like the same date in 2009 only this time the descent is at a steeper angle. Our 4 year reprieve is over and only the courts can preserve us til our next window to return to greatness.

 

American exceptionalism is anathema to the progressive left. I can see why you couldn’t tolerate more of what is the equivalent of kryptonite to your sides ideology and belief system

But honestly, it doesn't sound to me like she has a problem with coming out as a "Proud American", but rather that her version of being a "Proud American" includes opinions that denigrate others and her concern is that others like her may feel the social consequences of having those opinions. And of course, there has never in the entire history of this country ever been a guarantee that having an opinion should and does make you immune to social blowback. Her problem is cultural, and more specifically aimed at only certain segments of the culture. I rarely see these "Proud American" types speaking out about the negative effects that prejudicial social attitudes and practices have had on minorities throughout our history. It's only as the pendulum has begun shifting against those attitudes and the people who traditionally have them that alarm bells have begun ringing in the "Proud American" circles.

Cancel culture is, more often than not, wrong and out of control these days. But it's also not the least bit surprising. The people doing the canceling and those who rally around them were not the ones with social power until relatively recently, and the folks who held it before then were not the least bit forgivable to people and views they didn't like. The people taking the medicine is slowly shifting and those who are parts of the groups(because you can only speak of this at the broad generic group level since you need evidence to speak about specific individuals) that were castigated and dismissed years ago are suddenly finding they have social power they never had before. And of course the groups who did have it before and find it ebbing are suddenly very very concerned. Perhaps if they had been concerned about the rights and social circumstances of minorities and the socially derided in the past, the pendulum would have less energy to swing so far in the other direction.

Nothing about this is to say that being a traditional "Proud American" makes you racist or prejudicial in any way(you need evidence to make those kinds of accusations against specific people as I said) any more than being a minority means you wouldn't be.
