Many allies of the President spent the last week distraught as they watched Trump fumble his response to the police killing of George Floyd, only to follow his perceived silence on the resulting racial tensions with a federal law enforcement crackdown on the protesters near his fortified doorstep.

Aides and allies were not comforted by the backlash over his decision to have federal officers aggressively clear Lafayette Park in front of the White House to facilitate a widely-panned attempt at a photo-op in front of St. John's Church. And the rest of the week continued on a downward spiral, as protests across the country grew and Trump faced an onslaught of well-known conservatives, generals and former Trump administration officials who excoriated his response and called for new leadership come November.

Carson suggested during an interview with CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of the Union" that the President this week would further address Floyd's killing and the tensions it exposed.

Trump cannot even read a passage to fake compassion. He has no soul, no humanity, no comforting, no sincerity. I hope he does read a teleprompter scam. It willl backfire tremendously. Everything Trump does, his approval goes down. Then, when he really starts tearing folks down and acting harsh, angry and hateful, we can further cement a landslide.

With that landslide, we will wash away all REPUBLICANISM. Hopefully forever.

Trump: Trying to unite the nation

    Liberals: Apparently triggered by this

    Go figure.

Let me help you with this...

Trump: trying to save his ass because he screwed the proverbial pooch on this.
Liberals: Laughing their asses off at the idea of Trump as unifier.

There ya go. Glad I could clear it up for you.

""White House is considering a Trump speech to the nation on race and unity""....Trump will certainly need someone else to write that speech since he knows nothing about either race or unity...

    Better question...

How the hell can Trump make such a speech with a straight face?

    And

Can you imagine a campaign ad juxtaposing anything Trump says in such a speech against his history of blantant racism?

Exactly. A week ago they were complaining that he hasn't addressed the situation. Now they are making fun of him for the mere idea that he would. Just look at the ridiculous and nasty comments already.

The funny part is that Stephen Miller is his speech writer!

Have you heard the term 'a day late and a dollar short'? He is now considering an attempt at unification - only just now. He posted 200 tweets Friday, 74 of them between 8am and 9am. All of it politically inspired. Nothing to unify. And now - now - he thinks its time to stand up and address the country?

When people start making completely irrational decisions like dismantling police departments out of sheer unadulterated stupidity and emotion, then yes... It.might be time to bring some common sense to the table.

But we aren't talking about common sense, are we? This thread is about Trump considering a unifying message.

"White House is considering a Trump speech to the nation on race and unity"

if history is any indication of the future, Trump will read a nicely written speech, then blow it the next day with his own views on the subject

If that is what you think the speech is about you might be a Trumper.

The speech is about trying to reverse the abysmal poll numbers Trump has amassed as Americans react to the Divider-in-Chief botching yet another chance to show he has the capacity to lead.

liberals will believe it when we see it, Trump just reading a nice speech off a teleprompter means nothing unless he really means it, and Trump usually reverses himself within 24 hours via his own tweets or public off the cuff comments

    Ding, ding, ding!!!

Only correction...conservatives, who aren't sheep, are also laughing at the idea of Trump being a unifier.

Actually what they are talking about is not dismantling police departments, but revamping them, having communities police themselves and call in the State police when needed - will it work, don't know, probably not as it could create black communities and white communities, and those could bring their own racial problems.... where white people do not want to go to black communities and black people do not want to go to white communities as their local police may want to keep their citizenry black or white depending on the area

something has to change, just not sure that is the answer, but at least it's a conversation, and we are talking about it, and many will throw ideas out there, it's still early in the discussion, we will see where it goes

Uniting the nation apparently triggers the left wing in this country....they hate the idea.

I'm truly hoping we will see debates before november. The subject matter for questions will cover the virus and the protests and, when pushed beyond his talking points, I'd like to see him handle those.

Um, nope. We've just seen three years of Trump's inability to share a unifying message. We've been asking, but none comes. So to suggest that he may do it now just leaves us cold.

Trump has an approval rating of 49 percent...higher then Obama at this point. His numbers are just fine. https://news.gallup.com/poll/203198/presidential-approval-ratings-donald-trump.aspx

Trump is not capable of being unifying, it just isn't who he is. Which is fine for most of his supporters, he was elected for his policies not his ability to pander.

Trump is in many ways the opposite side of the coin from Obama - which again is fine, because Obama was just an empty suit with a lot of charisma.

We need less politicking and more action. Where Trump needs to worry about his support wavering is by allowing this crap to continue.

Besides, Trump could give a Nobel Peace Prize winning speech about love and unity and the left would still lose their minds.

Trump has already said he won't debate, and to be honest, not sure Biden would be the best in the debates either, so guessing neither will want them

giving a speech someone else wrote and then saying the opposite off the cuff or on twitter does not mean much
