Just as everyone suspected, the unsigned NOAA statement supporting Trump's incorrect claim about Alabama was a result of direct and severe pressure from the White House: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/11/us/politics/trump-alabama-noaa.html The White House was directly involved in pressing a federal scientific agency to repudiate the weather forecasters who contradicted President Trump’s claim that Hurricane Dorian would probably strike Alabama, according to several people familiar with the events. Mick Mulvaney, the acting White House chief of staff, told Wilbur Ross, the commerce secretary, to have the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration publicly disavow the forecasters’ position that Alabama was not at risk. NOAA, which is part of the Commerce Department, issued an unsigned statement last Friday in response, saying that the Birmingham, Ala., office was wrong to dispute the president’s warning. In pressing NOAA’s acting administrator to take action, Mr. Ross warned that top employees at the agency could be fired if the situation was not addressed, The New York Times previously reported. Mr. Ross’s spokesman has denied that he threatened to fire anyone, and a senior administration official on Wednesday said Mr. Mulvaney did not tell the commerce secretary to make such a threat. Classic Trump. He's wrong, but rather than admit it, he tries to force everyone to say he's right. This is a problem, because the weather service is supposed to provide unbiased scientific information, and Trump is trying to undermine that. He wants science to say whatever he wants it to say, the actual facts be damned. Regardless of your political views, you should oppose attempts to politicize or silence the agencies that provide us with data and scientific information.
Holy crap.... ANOTHER thread on this meaningless event? This couldn't fit into one of the many threads on this TDS story? Nope! Create another thread. It doesn't mean anything.
The Obama Administration politicized the IRS and DOJ against their ideological enemies. They actively looked to jail and silence people. This story is meaningless.
Well, actually, there's no evidence of that despite multiple investigations. But regardless, if that was wrong, so is this. So why is this "meaningless"?
Instead of ranting, just report the Dupe Thread to he Mods (if it bothers you that much). As to the OP Topic: Obviously Trump is an EGREGIOUS IMBECILE (who never should've been elected in the first place). He can never admit he is wrong, and will do anything to validate his fantasies (even to the point of getting agencies to lie for him). ^Trump 101.:smh:
