It does not matter. Because there is no such thing as a "Best Elite Force". It all depends on the mission. If I was going to try and train an indiginous force to defend it's region against an armed enemy, either national or insurgent, I would send in the Green Berets. If I was going to scout out the approach for an amphibious assault, try to sink ships in a harbor, or take out pirates, I would send in the SEALS. If I was going to send out a squad sized unit in advance of a Division to keep an eye on enemy forces, I would send in the Rangers or Marine Force Recon. The "Elite Force" is mostly only capable in their own specific area. You would not send in Special Forces to try and mine a ship in an enemy harbor. You would not send Force Recon in to train indiginous forces. It all depends on the mission. All of them are outstanding in their own specific specialty, reguardless of nation or branch of service. Take them outside of their area of specialization, and they are not much more capable then anybody else is.
They are all about the same, in their own individual area. SAS, SPETSNAZ, ROK Special Forces Brigade, BFST, they are all superb units and organizations. However, they are all different. They are trained differently, they are deployed differently, they operate in different conditions and situations from each other. It would be like taking a Rugby player, a Soccer player, a Basketball player, a Baseball player, a Cricket player, and a Golfer, and then asking which was the best athlete. They are all so different, that any attempt to claim that one was better then the other would be nothing but a great big steaming pile of feeces. This is nothing but a question for Fanboyism, and has nothing to do with reality.
You barely have enough fingers to count the number of nations that have the nuclear capacity to blow up the world 10 times over. Does it really matter?
In a recent competition, it is my understanding Poland won. But mushroom is right, much of special forces capability lies in logistics and intelligence which differs between regions. As things are now, given the recent experience in war situations, I would hate to be the target of the SAS (1st) and Navy Seals (2nd), both can "reach out and touch someone."
There's between 10-15K active duty members of some sort special operations unit currently serving; I've met all 50K on-line. Same probably holds true for military pilots...hey wait a second... Nevermind. Seriously my standard reply to questions like this "who is the most badass of the badass?"... Why don't you join one of them and get back to us. Mushroom hit the nail on the head; they are all unique and equally competent in their tasked missions. Occasionally there is over-lap but for the most part they are apples and oranges.
America obviously. Better training, better technology, better standards, etc. You don't get the title of strongest military on Earth for being second best
Do you not freaking get it? It depends on so many things, you just can't answer this. If the contest is a 50 mile forced march, I would bet on Marine Force Recon and Army Rangers. If the contest is a 5 mile swim, I would bet on Navy Seals. If the contest was doing a HALO insertion, I would bet on Special Forces. Of course, this is only US amred forces, but hopefully this will help drive it home a bit. There is no such thing as "best" in this kind of question. It is impossible to answer accurately, because they are all different. And there are so many variables. For example, in my prime, I probably could have given most of them a run in a Jungle environment or an Alpine environment. But I had also had specialized training in those environments, and not even most Special Forces get that kind of training. You just can't determine who is "best". These are all highly specialized units, trained for very specific roles. Why can't you seem to understand that?
I do not know, I am aware of the high attrition in U.S. Spec Ops training...the one's who earn that distinction are highly motivated, and highly skilled individuals comprising a team. I would assume that other nation's follow suit...hypotheticals like this are better deserving of Deadliest Warriors...but personally I'm glad the U.S. Guys are on my side because I would not want to be on the receiving end of their training in practice...not just theory.
My friend, that show is just entertainment...many of the capabilities are classified. Listen to Mushroom. He's an experienced Marine and now a soldier...there is no definitive answer. It's fun to argue on a message board but too many variables.
Yea depends on the mission I guess, and is it war time or peace time? So perhaps who has the capacity to undertake the most types of special operations missions is a better question... I think it would have to be between the US and China. That said, anyone with an effective modern submarine capability can achieve insertion to most coastal places during peacetime maybe? Chinese immigrants are everywhere more then either yanks or russians so chinese operatives could blend in easily perhaps. In wartime I'd have to say the US hands down because of the technology and large military training establishment to feed hi level candidates.
