as long as the dumb woman (who didn't use birth control, didn't insist on her man having vasectomy (or get sterilized herself, or both) can spend a lousy $500 on a trip to Mex (including the price of the abortion there), why distract everybody from FAR more important issues, hmm? Like taxes, gov't and military that are 10x what could ever possibly be needed. Anybody that can't sell some stuff or borrow $500 is somebody who has no biz risking pregnancy, for sure.
Not all women who get pregnant fall under the categories you mentioned. Birth control does not always work, they get raped, children are molested by family and friends. However I argue my views on abortion, because I fight for what i feel is right. I do not feel it is right that abortion is legal in this country, except in cases where the woman's life, the fetus life, or the fetus is already dead. Just because you can go somewhere else to do it, does not mean it should be legal here. What is more important then a human life that has committed no illegal acts, and did not even ask to be created in the first place. I think protecting the unborn is very important and at least as important as reducing the deficit, taxes and equal rights for all.
Its a emotional gain for Republicans for them to be seen to be pandering to the right-wing Christian conservatives in order to maintain their vote .. in reality Republicans in government are no more likely to ban or severely restrict abortion than Democrats as can be clearly seen through out the times Republicans have held the government and the majority on SCOTUS.
While it's true that a lot of Republicans are dishonest and only use the pro life agenda as a means to get votes, a lot of people say that Reagan supported abortion and wasn't pro life. This is false. http://www.lifenews.com/2008/03/11/nat-3790/
