Just to begin I am NOT against this. Definitely not, I like it.

But it is a fact. If I'm invited to a formal dinner I have to wear at least three layers of clothing on my upper torso, ultra tight things around my neck and hard shoes. My GF can be bare to almost halfway down her chest, from thigh down to what are less than sandals, possibly even show some belly, and everybody says how fashionable she is (including me) even though she is basically in her underwear. At work in an office I have to wear, well, the same thing really, and she can get away with close to as much as above. (This leads to the Eternal Thermostat War, a feature of most Corporate culture.)

The only place there's even a rough equivalence is in construction, where both sexes must make concessions to the elements. (The only really good part of hot days)

Now yes, women have to cover their breasts even informally, but that's not entire. Let me show even part of a testicle and I'm in the local gaol.

Why is this, and how can we encourage more of it?

Seems to me that such questions should be up to the owner of the property you're on at the time.

In public is a little more complicated. I have no desire to force people to wear clothes, but I'm guessing others do.

We still live in a male dominated world and society, as such men tend to set the rules.

Few men have a problem with scantily clad women in public, and in fact (as the OP) wish to promote it and see more.
Few men would care to see another man in speedos......there is your answer.

A: Because your testicles are simply ugly, while your GF's breasts aren't. Tell her she's hot and she'll show us all more. Thanks.

Women generally have more freedom when it comes to clothing, and not only in cases such as yours where women can get away with less, but women also have more variety in what they can wear.

I feel your pain, OP. I hate how men are supposed to completely cover themselves up with plain clothing, especially at gatherings or in the corporate workplace.

That being said, showing off your balls isn't really comparable to a women showing off her breasts. One is aesthetically pleasing, while the other is a wrinkled sack hanging from your crotch.

    It's all relative.

Men get away with going topless in a lot more places than women do.

God this makes me glad I'm retired now.

My uniform of the day is the "Florida Tuxedo".

    That's a pair of shorts and a T-shirt.

For formal wear, I have a couple of shirts that have collars.

I am definitely jealous of how comfortably women and in the workplace can dress compared to us men. High hills being the exception, though they have more comfortable options available to them to wear as well.

But that said, as a man I have more than my fair share of advantages as well.

Formal gatherings can be a lot of fun, if you let it. I bet your girlfriend will admire you for wearing your attire well.

I certainly admire hers. The last one explored the possibilities of shear, and I think found new territory.

Don't get me wrong. I like playing dress up, just wonder why it is the way it is.

Nothing's stopping you from wearing that - just be prepared to have your sexuality questioned.

Same would be true if a woman were to show even a part of her snatch in public - but on the other hand, a man could go around shirtless and the worst that'd happen is he'd be denied service at McDonald's or Burger King - so you're being a little hypocritical here

Because men would rather look at this:

    Than this:

Maybe if gay men were the majority it'd be reverse, but that's just the way things are, lol

Patrrticaly bull(*)(*)(*)(*). Bull(*)(*)(*)(*) like Christianity, Islam, Judaism, all have suppressed women to something subhuman.

Just read the Bible, the Qur'an, and the Torah, you will understand.

Or the atheist North Korean government (and yes the govt is atheist - the "Kim Worship" religion is manufactured by the propaganda industry - so even if some N. Koreans believed that the Kim Family is divine, the actual govt is atheist).

Atheism didn't stop the Sovies from oppressing women

Not to mention many 'atheists' still hold backward and oppressing views toward women - I've known some real scumbags who treated women like scum who definitely weren't religious - so obviously reading the Torah/Koran/Bible didn't have much to do with it - this is why militant atheism is bullsh-t - it ignores human nature and personal responsibility - just like blaming "the gun" for Adam Lanza or some bull(*)(*)(*)(*) like that

Doesn't have jack to do with "patriarchy" either - that's just some retarded feminist term coined by 250 lb hirsuite biker chicks who never had a boyfriend that wasn't battery operated

This happens in professional offices too. Everybody knows a coat and tie, or collared shirt and slacks are appropriate for men. Men, however, don't really have a good idea what is appropriate for women. Is there a big difference between khaki slacks and capris or between one type of no collar shirt or another on a woman? IDK and neither do most guys.

We suffer from an ages-long tradition now of fearing nudity and sexuality in some strange and often religious ways. It is kind of funny that women are allowed to show so much more, and I suspect this comes back to male attitudes affecting societal rules and norms overall..

The polytheistic Greeks, the originators of that word you're now tossing around in comical fashion, used to call Christians atheists.

You say that, but again if a woman goes around shirtless - she gets tossed in jail. A man goes around shirtless - he doesn't get served at McDonald's or Burger King.

So it's not as black/white as made out to be.

Legally, men can show more than women - socially though - a guy in capris, or a crop-top, or low-cut blouse, would raise more questions than answers

So what is the North Korean govt? Muslim? - the govt is Marxist/atheist - the "Jische" religion is just something manufactured by their ministry of propaganda to idolize their leader - the govt which oppresses people in brutal fashion knows very well that it's false - I can't speak for all North Koreans though

    They certainly would.

This thread is going slightly awry from my original intentions. I do honestly wonder sometimes why men aren't allowed to wear more comfortable clothing but more revealing is something I only encourage on women

OTOH, I find that a tie DOES make a man look better, at least it makes me feel I look better, even though I'm actually somewhat against them. (They're dangerous, think on it, why tie a piece of cloth around your bloody neck fer crissake)

Well office environments can choose their own dress code - most don't require you to wear a tie though (usually only a dress shirt and slacks, a tie is optional). It depends on where you work or what your position in the company is
