Human life which consists of one cell no bigger than the period at the end of this sentence.

And 43% of American women do that?

    For no good reason?

No, we are discussing something that has happened for thousands of years, something that happens in every country of the world and something that is very important to women everywhere

Now the question remains - if so many women in America are having abortions surely that also includes christian, pro-life, republican women

What could be so important/worrying/terrifying/distressing to them that they would undergo an abortion?

Carry on, then. I was discussing how "some" seem to think a woman loses all rights to her own uterus once she conceives.

Because it is a totally unique individual-- a human life.

True---its not all cuddly and doesn't coo in a cute way. Its easier to give value when a person has some sort of personal gratification from it.

A zygote is implanted in the woman's uterus, completely dependent on her. That doesn't describe an "individual." It's easier to give value to one who has achieved it.

And if that woman has an abortion...that individual can never be replaced. It is a unique individual.

So...if you got pregnant...a zygote would be implanted in your uterous. Its hair color, personality, IQ, temperament, rough height would be in place.

If you sucked it out and destroyed it---that individual would never be again. That individual is dead.

Amazingly....just like a new born baby's hair color, personality, IQ, temperament, rough height would be in place. You kill the baby---and individual is dead.

No difference between them except that one is implanted in a mother's uterus and the other is in her arms.

Its a pretty shallow definition of human life to say it only exists as long as its not implanted in a women's uterus.

Which allows me to ask the question---in your opinion--do you view a nine month gestation pre-born fetus a human life?

Of course you link to a prochoice site which calls it a "myth," but I hardly think that's something a pro life or pro choice source can determine accurately.

Let's go with the dictionary, shall we?

On one end of the scale you have a life and responsibility. On the other, you have the destruction of that life for reasons which generally boil down to how the woman doesn't want the responsibility of what she caused in the first place. And often, women having abortions have had them before, which means they've been through it before and they're probably going to do it again, which indicates total lack of seriousness and sense with regard to caring about the consequences of the choice they're making. So yeah, by the dictionary's definition, those reasons are generally fairly "frivolous."

most women have one or more natural abortions during their life, often without even knowing it

A unique potential individual. Does uniqueness create value? It isn't especially valued by nature since over half of all fertilized eggs are flushed away during menses.

Not necessarily, according to Dr. David Magnus, co-director of the Stanford Center for Biomedical Ethics, California:

    http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn8865-abortion-science-politics-and-morality-collide.html

Potential individual. Plenty of potential individuals will never be because women use birth control.

You can't be taken seriously if you claim there is no difference between a zygote and a baby in one's arms.

I can't answer a question with such vague terminology. A "human life" could have different meanings to different people. Is it alive? yes. Is it human? yes.

Oh my goodness. You are certainly dancing around here.

To jump off topic (but on really)...I think its about power. Some people believe that a womans power to kill human life dependent on her...is so important that they have to dance around the concept of killing human life.

For instance you say about a 9 month gestation fetus....is it human? Yes. Is it life? Yes. But to put the two words together is admitting something you can't.

I have greater respect for the poster (have not seen him lately) that honestly brings forth the question.....what is so important about human life? Why can't we kill it?

    Just responding to your posts.

Vague terminology again. Do you mean abortion kills a person? If so, why can't you say that? Power has a lot to do with the abortion debate, however. Denying a woman the right to make her own life decisions does tend to make her powerless and easily controlled.

Human life, human life, human life. Still vague and ambiguous. Perhaps you can't say "person" because you know you would lose that one.

Person is more of a legal term. Our legal system does not view a fetus as a person----or it would be protected.

But that can change as the culture and the laws change.

Let's go with the dictionary to define "a life" then:

    http://www.onelook.com/?w=life&ls=a

Most dictionaries define it as "The interval of time between birth and death."

Most women who have abortions have had no previous abortions (52%) or only one previous abortion (26%).

Look for yourself. Of all the dictionaries listed, not one defines a life as beginning at conception and ending at death.

No, I believe ya. Like I said, if the dictionary says life begins when the unborn child magically exits the womb then so be it. I just don't know why there is still sooo much controversy about the subject if the dictionary says life begins at birth.

Birth is hardly an act of magic, and normally it doesn't happen until after 9 months of development. None of that is "magic."

Well if they are not human before exiting the womb and then human once they exit, I'd say that is magic.
