Clearly, based on these forums, many other forums, and the many people who I've talked to personally, self-proclaimed "republicans" (not that they know what "republican" is, by technical definition) HATE Ron Paul because he's a "crazy reckless isolationist old man".

The question is, WHY IN GREAT GOD'S MOTHER(*)(*)(*)(*) WOULD RON PAUL ALIGN HIMSELF WITH REPUBLICANS????!!!??!?!?!!?!

For funding and a small shred of credibility for his crazy reckless isolationist old man agenda.

Old man agenda eh? Lol, that's a new one.

To answer the OP question, RP runs (R) because this is our mainstream 'Conservative' party... and Paul has far more in common with Republicans than he does Democrats. In fact, he's more Conservative than the other GOP candidates, and his views are more in line with what Conservatism was from the beginning.

Running third party from the start would all but ensure that his positions and views would be overlooked, that he'd get little exposure. The two party system has monopolized American politics.

The party-system is corrupt. If he ran 3rd party like he did in 1988 he wouldn't have been able to be in the debates or have any chance at winning.

Anyway, his views are pretty traditional Republican. It's the GOP base that left him.

Technically speaking, he is the most conservative candidate in the Republican party.

That is the problem. His conservatism hails back to the beginning of the 20th century and late 19th century thinking and policies.

Our society has vastly changed since then.

The Average American does not share his faith in laissez faire free markets.

The Average American isn't capable of keeping a high quality of life without much of the Statism he hates so much.

Face it, America is dependent on the Government and to enact his policies would be disastrous for the quality of life of many Americans.

The Average American wants cheaper, more sustainable Government. They don't want minimalist Government incapable of providing them with at least some of the Statism they require.

You can't just reverse 100 years of Statist dependence in 8 years.

Libertarians claim I'm not a conservative because I have some Statist tendencies. Well duh, virtually all Americans outside the Libertarian mindset have a Statest tendency, what else is going to happen after 100 years of Statism?

The average American is incapable of "taking care of himself" individually in the way libertarians expect. They would die.

Calling me names and assigning labels to me doesn't refute the facts.

Do you honestly beleive that many people wouldn't see a massive drop in the quality of life without Government interventionism?

How are you going to explain to them that they have to suffer a marked drop in the quality of their material life?

The great majority is going to have to use their hands for toilet paper here shortly. Do you honestly believe people with a knife in their belly are going to believe your promise that it will get worse if you pull it out? The only tactic the status quo has is to argue the last 20 years were different people, but since much of Washington is staples who just go from administration to administration, regardless of the party in power, this is hard in its own right to pull off.

Well excuse me if I think your apocalyptic vision of economic and social collapse if we don't immediately destroy the US Government and reduce it to the size it was in 1900 is complete and total horse (*)(*)(*)(*)!

Excuse me if you only wait to deal with problems after the fact. When do you realize maybe you were wrong? 60 trillion in debt? No economy left? Paying 100 bucks for a loaf of bread? What would be the end all tale-tell sign that you have been duped? I would say 14 trillion debt, 11 trillion lost in American wealth, government growing not shrinking no matter which party's status quo is in charge, is one huge, glowing wake the (*)(*)(*)(*) up sign.

    *shrug*

Whatever, I will beleive it when I see it. I think your prediction holds the same amount of water as the idea the world will end this year at the end of the mayan calendar. Like I said, complete horse (*)(*)(*)(*).

LMAO. We are 14 trillion in debt. Well, that is the figure from awhile ago. I'm sure it is more now. We have lost over 11 trillion in American wealth over the last decade, and still you support the policies that fostered it. Free trade, outsourcing, the FED. The republicans had full control under Bush, the executive, house and senate, and they did NOTHING to shrink government. Yet, you support a guy(Romney) who makes Bush look like Ron Paul. If you can't see the writing on the wall, you are blind.

    pff.

I just see a modern day John the Baptist living in the Wilderness, eating locusts and warning of (*)(*)(*)(*)ation and hellfire for those who refuse to accept the New Savior, Ron Paul.

You.... have.... NOTHING. You do realize more people read these threads than post, right? All I have stated is well documented. You have slander and hyperbole. Thank you for doing your part to win Paul votes.

I don't give a (*)(*)(*)(*) who people vote for. That is on their conscience to vote for those they see fit.

I'm just here to give my opinion, see others opinions and if I disagree with it, tell them to stuff it and get told the same in return.

I'm a RP supporter and I don't see an apocalypse if he's not elected. I do see a continuing downward spiral, though and who knows where the tipping point is.

S&P just downgraded 9 European countries. Though the markets are shrugging it off, at least for now, it can't be seen as a good thing. That's just another example of the things RP is talking about.

Also, his foreign policy is making more sense all the time. The latest assassination of an Iranian scientist will have repercussions. Though we could surely 'win' against them in a war, do you really think things will be confined to nation vs nation? No, these assassinations will only bring about more terrorism directed at us.

You know, any animal will fight back if cornered and poked with a stick. You could argue about our past actions, but it's hard to see what's currently happening as anything less than terrorism directed at another state by either us or the Israelis.

You probably see things differently, but I will say this. The US is acting as provocateur and should not be surprised when this bites us in the ass. This type of policy only benefits those making a profit off war and who couldn't care less the cost in blood and treasure to us or other nations. It's a sick policy that has to stop.

Exposure, and the fact that the republican party pretends to be conservative. Since he "is" a conservative he has to play along.

Republicans are not conservatives, never have been, never will be.

Which clearly shows that ignorant people who vote the party line most likely have no conscience.

Verses what.. a guy whose only accomplishment is forcing people to buy private insurance?

Oh I forgot. He also kept the Patriot Act, something he claimed to be against.

Not only escalated war in the ME, but attacked Libya.

Complained about foreign national terrorists not getting constitutional due process, but then requests a provision be added to the NDAA for Americans to not get any.

Campaigned on transparency and has provided less than Bush.

Not only continued Bush's policies of bailing out Wall St, but kept the same FED chairman that Bush picked.

    Obama isn't an option.

He's black and has a "cute smile" according to Chris Matthews. He passes the left's test.

I'm in Idaho, a GOP sanctuary. I'm sure a lot of conservatives on this site think I'm overly for Paul, but people have to realize the primaries are my battle ground for the guy I want. The GOP will win my state regardless. Those here who are far left for Idahoans are far right to the rest of the nation. LOL

You know, of course, that neocons have been sliming their way around the country saying things like "a neconservative is someone who has been mugged by a liberal", and you righties loved every word of it. In fact, Reagan sold his soul to the neocons to get them into the Republican Party, and by the time Bush43 came around, they were so entrenched they could write the ticket for every war Israel wanted. So your neocon = democrat is simply crap.

But I don't blame you for denying neocon = Republican. I don't want them in my party either.
