We went over in 1919 to fight for Lenin, then wanted to fight against communism, then got Yetsin elected, and so on.

The one constant is we are always in conflict with the USSR or Russia, and with most of the rest of the world.

Donald Trump took the route of mutual benefit, but where would that leave our weapons makers?

A large portion of the US public is rabidly anti Russia and also anti China, anti Iran, anti N Korea, anti Nicaragua, anti Syria, and the list goes on.

So let's focus on Russia right now:

Errata: after WW2 and in the 1950s and 1960s we weren't in conflict with much of the world
In our hemisphere we had a conflict with Haiti, and then one with Cuba,
and it appears maybe the USSR was viewed as a rival,
G W Bush expanded our conflicts by rudely telling the rest of the world
they had better do what we tell them.
Bill Clinton had said much the same thing but was more diplomatic.

But now the President and Biden see conflict with so many countries.

We don't have a problem with Russia. We have a problem with Russian leaders and their expansionism..

The problem is other countries want what America has. Some are willing to try and take it.
And then of course we have our ****ed up foreign relations policies and we stumble from on mess up to another.

First one way or the other most Americans don't know crap about this war and couldn't possibly care less. This is a war driven entirely by the elites on both sides and for whom the common citizen on both sides is more than a bit skeptical though the are still some what less free to say so in Russia than they are in the US. Meanwhile our northern neighbor is now a goose step short of full blown fascism, While we concentrate on the squirrel in the Ukraine.

I can't see why the elites in Russia would want this war,
but the US always starts a war as soon as one ends to
keep revenue coming in to the weapons makers.

Not always in a war, but almost always in quasi military conflict, usually exploiting weaker nations.

What quasi military conflict, exploiting weaker nations are we in now?

The arms companies do not start wars. Wars are started by politicians.

We have been constantly at war in this millenium, and usually at war since starting the American Empire about 1964.

I read in a political forum back when the US quit the war in Afghanistan, someone wrote, that means another war
is going to start, and sure enough we started the war in Ukraine, we did that by shipping over a huge
amount of weapons in mid 2021 to Kyiv which of course they used in Feb 2022 mostly on the city of Donetsk.

What country would deliberately start a war against a more powerful country?

I have no desire “to destroy Russia.” What Russia needs to do is leave its neighbors alone. It needs to abandon Imperialism. To do that we need regime change.

The counter argument is that perhaps Russia has a national culture of imperialism. If that’s true, it would take a strong leader to change that mindset.

Then it seems like that politician should be campaigning on starting a war to really make that effective.

From what I have seen, defense contractors are among the smaller contributors.

You may want to look again. The US and US weapons manufacturers supply tons of weapons. And the US has been involved in countless questionable actions overseas with military and quasi military pushes.

The US was even at war with the Philippines at one point (two actually), after purporting to free it from Spain. Then you have countless interferences in South America, an invasion of Vietnam, and so on and so on.

I know some Filipinos and they are happy the US got involved because the Philippines is now a free country. They asked us to leave and we left. Generally, we are on friendly terms with the Filipinos.

Do you really believe the US went into Vietnam because the arms corporations bought JFK.

Vietnam was a horrible mistake. However, the reason for being there was valid. And that was to prevent SE Asia from going communist.
