Dillion does have a problem with prepitatory dies, but I couldn't pass up on a square deal B for $250 shipped IIRC. It is now sitting on my work bench idle though with brand new 9mm dies.

I think the correct answer for most people is whatever they are most comfortable and proficient shooting and meets their carry needs.

Dillon is good stuff. It will last you a lifetime.

I was able to stock up on components last fall so I'm sitting pretty good at the moment. Got plenty of work for the Lock n Load this spring. :)

    Scots,

Really? Do you think the best medicine for most people is whatever they are most comfortable with?
This is a life & death decision that some people like to go into with expert advice. There is a big difference between being a hobbyist and 'liking' guns and wanting a gun to defend yourself or others. Lots of people make big mistakes in this area by confusing "personal defense with a firearm" with "shooting". This mistake leads to people carrying antiquated technology, unreliable gear and, possibly, putting themselves in more danger than they need to be in. Along the way, choosing DA/SA guns, 1911s and/or more powerful calibers than they are ever likely to need, they make their training curve harder and their practice more expensive... because training resources are limited, that inevitably means that they are less trained than they would be if they used a simpler gun and shot more cheaper ammo. It's a lose-lose-lose.... too often backed up by bravado and ego investment that suggests that all opinions are equal and concepts like "whatever works for you is best". If you give someone a sugar pill and they aren't really sick, it "works" for them.... (luckily) that is the case with defensive firearms, most people never need them, so they can get away with poor choices. It is, however, unfortunate when some of those people then influence others to make the same mistakes...

    Ron Pincus,

I am old enough now that I require medicine everyday to control my blood pressure. Did you know that there isn't a "best medicine" for blood pressure control? That they work in different ways to accomplish the intended goal of blood pressure reduction? That they have different side effects and can affect people in different ways? Did you know that doctors don't know exactly what the results will be when they prescribe one to a patient? For me it took over a year and several different medicines in order to find the one that did the job, with the least amount of undesirable side effects, while not costing me an arm and a leg every month for refills.

I have no idea where you got all this from my statement. What I said was "I think the correct answer for most people is whatever they are most comfortable and proficient shooting and meets their carry needs." For me personally, the correct answer is a Glock 21 (45 ACP), which I have a lot of time behind and am very proficient with it. On the other hand, my wife is not comfortable with my Glock. It is too big for her hands and she can't control it well, so she doesn't like to shoot it. So I got her a Glock 19 (9mm) instead. She is quite happy with it. It fits her hand better and she perceives it to be less recoil. She practices with it and is becoming proficient with it. That is the goal right? I'd rather her have a gun that she is comfortable with and will practice using rather than forcing her into what I think is the best caliber. Ultimately she will be much more effective with the one she knows well and enjoys using right?

So stupid, give me a shotgun, or rifle anyday of the week.

I don't understand why anyone who has any knowledge of fire arms uses handguns. Its like using dial up service, while everyone is walking around on their smart phone. The tool is inferior!

I'll take my metal sited rifle, in any combat situation, over a piece of crap handgun. Rifle, < 250 yards = 1 shot 1 kill. Handgun > 20 yards = inaccurate weapon!

The handgun is a more practical for carrying in public, so I keep a full clip of hollow points with 1 in the chamber for that, however, at home I keep a loaded SR-556sc with a laser sight in my gun cabinet with the first 2 numbers on the dial already entered. I timed myself at around 7 seconds from the point of realizing the necesity, to bringing a big scary rifle on target. A rifle outshines any weapon all day in just about any home defense situation.

US Navy SEALS carry handguns. Would you say they know something about firearms?

This is like saying a cop uses a handgun as well, not sure what pointing out that someone uses a handgun, so their hands are free to do other things has to do with anything. BTW, to the best of my knowledge a SEAL carrying a handgun would be mission dependant, and not standard issue.

You said the above things. I pointed out just ONE example which proves your statement inaccurate. Your response to that example is to change the subject.

No, just that a handgun can be situationally useful.

You know if we had heavy solar flare activity, dial up service would be superior to a smart phone.

Inside my house, the handgun is my choice. It's easier to wield in close quarters. I don't need to shoot more than 40 feet in the house.

    Rifle > Shotgun > Pistol

Pistols are convenient and you can have a pistol AND a rifle if you need to. Two is one, one is none. I would bring two guns if I had the practical option if at all possible. All you need to carry a rifle anda pistol is a sturdy belt and a decent holster that isn't made out of nylon.

I would take a short stock shotgun in this scenario over a handgun.

Now this I can agree to.

However, would you claim your ability to form a militia is based on a handgun?

So does the intent of the second amendment protect handguns?

Don't get me wrong, with what is going on today to remove the weapons the people need to form militia's, I'm not for banning handgun's, just in a perfect world where motives are transperant, i don't believe the 2nd amendment should cover handgun's.

If I lived in the wilderness and was defending my homestead at longer ranges---then yes a rifle would be fine.

But most of us here live in a civilization, around other people. How practical would your super long gun be to use in a car, or to walk around inside a business?

If you had no choice but to live or work in a dangerous area, you would want a handgun for day to day carry.

What I am reading here is:
"How dare you question the ultimate authority on earth concerning handguns and protection".

God thought you should be able to employ weapons to keep your nation free from the inevitable temptation of those in power to take away your rights. That's why he endowed you with the inalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and our forefathers were smart enough and far sighted enough not to specify whether you should have to use pistols or rifles to use for your own defenses.
