I shave because 1) it itches the living crap out of me if I don't; and 2) my face breaks out if I don't which makes #1 even worse.
It depends on the look, long unkempt scruffy doesnt appeal to many women...and it depends also where you put it(what you do with it), it provides an extra tickle in the right places when kept short...I find the 3 day stubble works best...
One shaves to have a clean and neat appearance. The art of shaving is also quite a pleasant experience. About one year ago I was shaving with a three bladed monstrosity and using tin can shave cream. I switched to a badger hair brush, Italian mug shave soap and a German safety razor. What a difference! Wash your face, lather up and that single blade gives a very close perfect shave. Finish with a nice astringent after shave (Virgin Islands Bay Rum). Razors having more than one blade are a joke.
So basically your issue isn't beards, your issue is all women except for your wife are not quality. WOW! Id like to see her resume and pic.
My razor uses 14 blades, the Gillette Mach 14. I demand a close shave and 1 - 10 blades doesn't cut it...literally. There's also the Gillette Infinitum with 22 blades.
Totally agree. Get rid of the five bladed razor and the shave gel in a can. I use a Merkur safety razor with a single double edged blade. I lather up with an Italian shaving soap and a badger bristle brush. I touch up my sideburns with an LA straight razor. I finish with a cold water rinse and Vigin Islands Bay Rum aftershave. Wonderful! Shaving has become a pleasure, no longer a chore.
Nice setup, I have a Merkur 34G probably similar to yours. Have you tried using an alum block? I find if I rub my face with it prior to aftershave it really helps irritation.
I'd tell the boy that it is too hot where I live to have a beard and I don't like crickets dropping into my porridge.

Yeah, I've got some Trumper coconut oil cream, seems to do the job. Favorite thing I've bought so far has to be the Fine Snake Bite aftershave. So much menthol!
The fancy razors, brushes and shave creams sound way to metrosexual to me. I get the throw-away double bladed razors, a can of barbasol and I'm good to go. I've been shaving, daily, for over 30 years going this route and my face isn't all that tore up from it. Now if folks want to spend money on pampering themselves, more power to you...but it's all the same to me.
In America, beards indicate one is a liberal. However, many bald American men wear beards to give their countenance some substance, but this of course, makes them look like their faces are upside down -- bald on top and hair on the bottom. By the way, why do so many white American men have bald heads? Is it something in their diet?
Male pattern balding is largely genetic. Many men who have thinning hair elect to shave their heads rather than have an obvious receding hairline or bald spot. My hair has thinned appreciably over the years, but I still have enough to not be thought of as balding.
I just cannot agree with that assessment of liberals. Baldness is most often a natural effect of aging. The majority of men lost their hair because of aging. I am losing my hair because of it. That's the first reason. There are others. Some men and women lose hair because of some sort of illness, such as from cancer and chemotherapy. Others do purposefully shave their head for style because there are women out there who find bald men sexy. There may be more, but I can't find any. I am still following this thread.
I full beard is a pain in the ass to maintain and keep clean.....especially when you eat lots of Italians foods or foods with cheese and sauce in them. I have a goatee myself but it is kept short and that is the most I will grow.
The inclination to grow and cultivate facial hair is a highly individual and personal thing for men. (Women, eh; not so much. The vast majority of women work very hard to keep their face free of hair.) I admire fellows who either grow a beard OR remain clean-shaven because one or the other is what feels right for them. I do NOT admire fellows who follow fads and fashion trends, a grow a beard or goatee just because it's what all the hipsters are doing. My usual state is clean shaven, but with a nicely trimmed mustache. In the end, some men can tolerate the itch, bulk, grooming requirements, and mountain-man associations what go along with growing a full beard. I myself cannot. I keep a mustache most years and only occasionally let the goatee grow, but only for a few days. (And even then because I am feeling lazy about shaving.) My biggest problem is that the beard hairs that grow down my neck and on my cheeks ITCHES LIKE A BITSCHE, and drives me absolutely mad with discomfort. On the rare occasion that I do let the beard go, I keep the edges and the neck very clean-shaven. On the weeks leading up to a musical gig, I generally allow a soul patch to grow, but only because I makes me feel like an old school bluesman. And then after the gig is over, I shave it off again. So, am I a wishy-washy bastard, or just a lazy clown with no particular preferences? It's hard to say most days. My DOGS love me, and that's good enough, I reckon.
Maybe it's where I live and my age, but bearded+single tends bring better results than shaved+single.
Some do. I know this one girl who wants to get laser treatment to remove her fuzz above her lip. My beard is a natural goatee. I don't have to do anything but keep it trimmed.
