I have had zero problems with pictures on Windows 10, on different machines from different manufacturers, so that is strange. I do know Vista was a nightmare for some pic extensions, the thumbnails would not show, and there were error messages that required turning of viewing of thumbnails off; I still remember the funny Vista webpage where Windows could not come up with a solution and kept posting huge ungodly instructions that led nowhere.

In my case of the laptop I wanted to use another monitor, like Linux does without problem, but you need something other than the cheap version of Windows to do more than clone the exact same screen, so the upgrade to a pro version made sense in that respect. The “task view” button on taskbar in Windows 10 is because many Linux distributions have had that for years.

My doctor's office is still using 7, go back.

You can uninstall Windows 10 within one month and you need to do this to go back to Windows 7. Open the Start menu and select Settings. Click the “Update & security” icon and select “Recovery.” You should see a “Go back to Windows 7” or “Go back to Windows 8.1” option. Click the Get started button to get rid of your Windows 10 install and restore your previous Windows install.

You probably don't have enough RAM. Every new iteration of windows requires more RAM to operate. If your PC is slow I suspect that the computer is utilizing your harddrive for the extra memory which is significantly slower than RAM.

By more RAM and also NEVER, EVER patch a new OS on top of an old one. WHen installing a new OS it should be a fresh install. Microsoft really (*)(*)(*)(*)ed everyone over by forcing people to do the (*)(*)(*)(*)ty "patch me up" bull(*)(*)(*)(*).

The guy that I bought my rebuilt computer from said he would install Windows 10 for me. I should have let him install it, because I did install Windows 10 over Windows 7. Oops.

It wouldn't cost that much to get a Windows 7 key, or disk. And I assume now you mean you installed Windows 10 clean, not keeping your old programs installed under 7, and there is no Windows directory with 7 at "C:".

At this point I would suggest install Linux to try it, probably Debian or Linux Mint, if ram is not the problem, then for the price of a meal install 7 duel boot.

    How much ram?

"Here's how to do it. First, you'll need to right-click on the Start button and choose Run to bring up the Run dialog (of course). Hit the Enter key, and you'll immediate see the System Information panel. You can also type msinfo32 into the Start Screen to bring up the Search, and then you'll finally find it."

I majored in the health sciences, not computers. I don't have any idea what Linus Mint is, or duel boot is. I do know a good computer guy that owns a little computer shop down the road though. I think I will take it to him. I am pretty sure that when I installed the free Windows 10 they said they had to uninstall a bunch of programs. Maybe what they were deleting was the Windows 7 operating system. ?????

If it said Windows 10 had to uninstall some programs, because some are not compatible, Windows 7 is still there. If you run disk cleanup, it will show a box to delete the old operating system. Don't do anything, just take it to your friend.

I'd advise never to do an update from one OS to another later version, you do have the option of doing a clean install of windows 10, which is the way I would recommend .. of course you will lose any data, programs etc.

Windows 10 overall is a better OS than 8.1, though you do need to go through the settings and switch off a number of it's "reporting" options.

I highly recommend the following things,

Computers are cheap now, new computers, if you have a working OS on an older computer, do not mess with it, if you want a newer OS, get an additional computer with the new OS, this way, you do not risk any saved files on your original computer.

Going on the Internet is risky no matter what firewall or antivirus programs you use.
Millions of hackers are working to hack your computer, if you value stuff, keep it on an Internet free computer.
I have lots of friends in the computer business and they get me refurbished computers and we barter services, so I run multiple computers simultaneously, redundant equipment is best.

When I first started with computers, the only way I would use a new OS, is to replace the original hard drive, with a new hard drive, and do a clean install, I would not reinstall the original drive, better is to also add a backup hard drive too, this way I would not risk any saved files.

When I first started there were no operating systems everything had to be coded from scratch - no fancy GUI's to help out either, in fact the systems I first used had no hard drive at all, everything was backed up onto either cassette tapes or punch cards.

I can even remember the specs of the first computer I used.

    CPU: 6502, 1 MHz
    RAM: 4 or 8 kB
    ROM: 18 kB, including BASIC 1.0 / 20 kB, including BASIC 2.0
Video: discrete TTL video circuit, 9" monochrome monitor (green on 2001-N PETs), 40×25 character display
Sound: none / single piezo "beeper"
    Ports: 2 MOS 6520 PIA, MOS 6522 VIA, 2x Datassette (1 used / 1 on the back), 1x IEEE-488

    Please try these options
complete installation instead of 'just an upgrade'.
    Try for a disk defragmentation
free up at least 10 GB space on your primary drive( C drive)
check you task manger and check the usage of disk , CPU and RAM

    A) Never get anything from Best Buy - awful customer service, staff has frequent turn over.

    B) Tech Support - very costly, Microsoft owned 'Geek Squad' ruined my computer twice, and often gives bad advice RE: anti-virus software or on ANYTHING else for that matter.

    C) Windows 10 is a disaster, stick w/ Windows 7

    D) Best Buy / 'Geek Squad' are huge, faceless, souless chains - they don't care about you.

    E) Like a Chrysler - Microsoft (owns Best Buy) is made to malfunction, and even admitted their own Windows Anti Virus doesn't work. They figure - Like Chrysler, the more time you spend fixing your computer or car in their service dept/ the more money they make.

    F) If you had good experience w/ Dell or have a local "Mom and Pop" owned computer store, try it. There is a local one by my house owned by some asian family - they're real nice.

The key to running a monstrous 2 giga-bite Microsoft operating system?

NEVER do ANY of the many flawed Microsoft updates, and 'security patches' that Microsoft requires you to fix later with even more updates and 'security patches' !

Only add essential software driver updates, like say your multi-media player or internet connection drivers.

Hey - Bill Gates , if it aint broke don't fix it - dummy. :DDsmilie_gaah:

Microsoft Admits Windows 10 Automatic Spying Cannot Be Stopped

    by Gordon Kelly

    (this part is false ...)

"But given Windows 10 is better than Windows 7 and Windows 8, "

    (read this)

"So how concerned should users be about Windows 10’s default data collection policies? I would say very.

By default Windows 10 Home is allowed to control your bandwidth usage, install any software it wants whenever it wants (without providing detailed information on what these updates do), display ads in the Start Menu (currently it has been limited to app advertisements), send your hardware details and any changes you make to Microsoft and even log your browser history and keystrokes which the Windows End User Licence Agreement (EULA) states you allow Microsoft to use for analysis.

The good news: even if Belfiore states you cannot switch off everything, editing your privacy settings will disable the worst of these. To find them open the Start menu > Settings > Privacy.

The bad news: despite Belfiore’s pledge “to continue to listen”, Microsoft’s actions (including the impending Windows 7 and Windows 8 upgrade pressure) suggests the company’s recent love for Big Brother tactics is only going to get worse before it gets better…"

I had just renewed my BEST BUY - 'GEEK SQUAD' - TECHNICAL SUPPORT subscription as a favor to another family member - ( although I strongly advised her to use another service tech company - there are dozens in the metro area who will drive to your home and fix issues remotely ) -and as soon as I forked over the $150.00 fee for six months or a year or whatever - this 'GEEK SQUAD' employee literally starts yelling at me, at the top of his voice: "YOU HAVE TO SWITCH TO WNDOWS 10, OR WE WILL REFUSE TO SERVICE YOUR COMPUTERS!" ...

The BEST BUY - 'GEEK SQUAD' guy was brow beating me while my sis had a mickey mouse trojan on her Windows 7 - anyone with a decent anti- malware tool can remove in 5 minutes - but BEST BUY - 'GEEK SQUAD' - use FEAR AND SCARE TACTICS on women, senior citizens, and old ladies - to DRUM UP BUSINESS - just because they are not tech saavy - JUST LIKE A RIP OFF CAR AUTO REPAIR SHOP.

I hung up on that pr__k.

F__k Bill Gates, I don't care if he retired from Microsoft ( that little NeoCon Republican Hillary Clinton mass murderer supporting twit ) f__k the Bill Gates Foundation, BEST BUY, Microsoft, the whole lot of those Elitist scum who donate to the Clinton Foundation - just so Killary Clinton can ruthlessly slaughter more innocent arab countries in the world.

WINDOWS 10 sends off keylogger info, bandwith usage, and other usage data illegally

spying on ya - If it was named 'lets agree politics' - no one would be here.

Computer companies, like the i-phone no. 7 are always asking us to

constantly upgrade - so we constantly have to shell out more $$$.

It's no secret. The grubby capitalist swine.

I did not get infections by not doing the updates.

I had Kaspersky anti-virus blocking them.

Microsoft merely makes 'security patches' that frquently made w/ flaws in them - the company freely admits this, and states in later updates 'this security patch is built to fix an earlier one ...' it's no corporate secret.

Microsoft Updates consistently do two things over the years - new OS make ealier sound and multi-media software CEASE TO FUNCTION or 'securty updates' make your computer run like molasses.

Why does Microsoft consistently make a disasterous OS like Windows 10 - you ask?

Because Microsoft still operates under the same business model as it did when Bill Gates introduced MS-DOS: Get the product to market as quickly as possible in order turn a profit.

Microsoft is like GM. When the U.S. Government took over GM during the bailout, they found astounding levels of mismanagement. That is Microsoft.

Microsoft lost $ 6 billion creating and promoting Bing seach engine, so then to recoup their costs, they had Geek Squad sales people scream at me to use Windows 10 like in my post above!

Microsoft's plan to stop Bing's $1 billion bleeding

    By David Goldman

"Bing, Microsoft's two-year old search engine, is losing nearly a $1 billion a quarter, with no sign of letting up.

Microsoft (MSFT, Fortune 500) has lost $5.5 billion on Bing since the search service launched in June 2009, but the company's search losses actually pre-date that. In fact, the software giant has never made money in its online services division. Since Microsoft began breaking out that unit's finances in 2007, the company has lost a total of $9 billion."

If you are still intent on returning to Windows 7 but don't have the original disks you can do the following NB: You will lose any data etc.

Download and run ShowKeyPlus this will give you your current Windows OS key, your OEM key (your original windows 7 key) and your original windows installation type, make a note of the original key and the OS type.

Download and run the Microsoft Windows and Office ISO Download Tool
Select the operating system that matches the OS type you got from the Show Key plus program - this will download a iso version of the OS.

Either burn the iso to a DVD or USB with any relevant software (I use ISO to USB)
Plug the USB into your system and re-start, you should be able to press a key on your keyboard that launches a one time boot menu - it could be any key but is usually F12 (function key 12)
Look for you USB drive in the list and using the keyboard arrow keys move down to and select it .. press enter .. the system should now boot into Windows installation, DO NOT use the upgrade option .. wipe your existing hard drive and do a clean install of windows 7 using the key you got earlier.

You can also download Windows 7 off the internet, burn it, install it, and enter the windows 7 product key which should be found on the side or bottom of your computer. That is if your computer originally came with windows 7 installed. You can also go to this site: https://www.heidoc.net/joomla/techn...icrosoft-windows-and-office-iso-download-tool And download this tool: Windows ISO Downloader.exe. Install it, then run it and it will guide you to download the Windows operating system of your choice. Then burn the downloaded ISO image to a DVD, and install the operating system from the DVD to your hard drive by rebooting the computer with the DVD still in the DVD drive The computer should boot off the operating system on the DVD. Follow the on screen instructions.

If this has already been covered, I apologize. You could also download and install UBUNTU or some other linux operating system for free. No product ID or number necessary. Just download, burn to DVD and install from the DVD by rebooting your computer.

Windows 10 really sucks. You also can not stop auto "updates" with Windows 10. One of my laptops was blocked for 2 HOURS while Windows 10 did an auto update. In that 2 hours it did two things:

    1. Put Apps on my computer I do not want of, trying to sell me many of them and
    2. Deleted the drivers for my non-Microsoft commercial printer.

Yes, it radically slows down your laptop because it has massive amounts of crap and it is essentially spyware constantly running on your computer.

If you TURN off your modem or WIFI you computer will run a bit faster because Windows 10 is constantly sending and receiving information about your computer and what you are doing.

The problem with Bing/Microsoft has to do with how difficult they make it for companies to advertise. The apparent attitude is that anyone or company that will not spend the money hire an IT tech is not worthy to advertise with Microsoft.

Want to advertise on Google? Piece of cake. Bing? Figure it will take weeks. You can set up the account easy enough. But trying to set up payments on the account? Virtually impossible. Even their help line people don't know how to do it. For this reason, from what I see, about 80% of those who advertising on Google do not advertise on Bing. Since it is cost-per-click, the lower Bing traffic is not a factor. We just went thru that again, having to change advertising credit card information. It took about 3 minutes on Google - including login time. It took nearly TWO WEEKS to do so on Bing. Simply would not accept ANY card. So for two weeks Bing got $0 and Google got 100% PLUS more as we upped it to make up for losing Bing (again - we have been thru this at least 1 dozen times and collectively at least a couple years of not advertising. Even now, we only bothered to fight thru getting one Bing account back up and going.)

It has ALWAYS been that way on Bing/Microsoft. The advertising is set up by Geeks who don't want anyone to be able to use Bing/Microsoft advertising who isn't also a geek. That policy - in place literally at least over a decade we know of - has cost Microsoft billions and billions of dollars - and is what more than anything else allowed Google to take-over and make astronomical sums of money off advertising.

Curiously, if you can finally do advertising on Bing you will have far less traffic from it, but a much higher rate of return as there are far fewer competitors due to the extreme difficulty to advertise on Bing.

Google has started some bad practices that is going to cost them a pile of money. Billions. Amazon is a SERIOUS competitor to Google for advertising dollars. However, Google will put Amazon way up at the top of search pages including for free. As a result, people are shifting their sales and advertising dollars away from Google into Amazon. Amazon is this nightmare monster that is a mass of fake and fraudulent products with practices that promote and reward scamsters who sell dangerous homemade crap on Amazon. Amazon severely restricts any presentation or explanation about products and prohibits businesses listing phone numbers - plus Amazon promotes price-wars. As a result, anyone can equally look like a major or legitimate company - even if just selling totally dangerous junk.

These mega companies get their heads up in the clouds both ignore and (*)(*)(*)(*) on little people - though it is little people who pour money their way via advertising fees. Because of this attitude, forgetting average people, they lose in the end. Yahoo was HUGE, but increasingly treated people and merchants like trash. Ebay was a total monopoly, but got greedy and was trashing merchants - giving rise to Amazon. Microsoft/Explore was HUGE, but also was not user friendly to the little guy - giving rise to Google.

These companies get their head up in the arrogant clouds dealing with "big things" - and forgetting the average person including who is giving them money. That arrogance ends up giving rise to competition that ultimately will beat them.

Thanks for the info. One thing my computer has been doing since I downloaded Windows 10 is freezing up. I have to keep turning off and on my computer to get it to run again. It is like the operating system doesn't 'click' on, or fails to start. It could be the computer, but it didn't do that before I downloaded Windows 10.
