What this woman felt is way beyond the power of your weak, perverted mind to understand. However judging her as idiot just because she didn't make the decision you wanted makes you the idiot.

She could have saved herself but willfully chose not to. Suicide. From the Latin 'sui' meaning 'self' and 'cide' meaning 'to kill'.

Firemen don't run into buildings knowing they are going die. They calculate the risks and intend to survive. Where do you get these strange notions?

    You forgot the 'helmet' part.

I notice you haven't committed suicide yet. Lot of opportunities out there.

Not quite, if the mothers life is in danger and the only means to save her involves a surgical or other proceedure which may end up killing the baby that procedure is allowed. The doctor must attempt to save both but if the mother will die without the procedure then so would the baby so it is allowed.

Nope her intention was not her own death. You don't get to change the meaning of words here.

They know they can die and often do.

And they don't sit there with a calculator figuring the odds before deciding to go.

If you think this woman is a fool for loving her unborn child enough to risk her own life then you must be thinking the same about anyone who unselfishly helps others at their own expense.

To die in order to serve someone's life and to commit suicide that servers nobody are 2 totally different things.

She is the one who chose to get pregnant knowing she could die from it. Why would you do that? It's irresponsible to bring a child into the world knowing you are probably going to end up dying because of it. It would be like me impregnating a woman as I was dying of cancer. If the woman was in better health and this occurred, then it wouldn't look so bad. But because of her health, it makes her look like she was so psychologically bent on having a child nothing else in the world mattered.

The liberals start to appear, about time I think. I will be really interesting to see how the thread will continue.

That was her "choice." Right? Are liberals only supportive of choice IF that choice is to purposefully kill the unborn baby? There are people and babies who beat the odds. This young woman gambled and lost. But again....it was her "choice."

still waiting to see the evidence that the abortion was necessary to save the life.

If the doctors say it is necessary, then it is. I trust the professionals, not those with an opinion on an internet forum.

But that procedure isn't an abortion, is it? It is simply medical treatment that may result in the death of the fetus.

Which means that if the treatment may not kill the fetus, but the pregnancy will continue to threaten the womans life, she is basically up (*)(*)(*)(*) creek without a addle.

Yes and no, but then is abortion ever the proper course of treatment?

Is abortion ever necessary to save the life or prevent the death of the mother?

"American Life League's (www.all.org) medical advisors say the answer is a simple, unequivocal "no"and any claim to the contrary is bogus. And many other doctors across the country agree.

American Life League circulated a statement (3/00) concerning this position to a select number of doctors around the country. Already, nearly 100 physicians have signed the statementincluding former abortionists Bernard Nathanson and Beverly McMillanand it is anticipated that hundreds more will sign.

The statement reads, "I agree that there is never a situation in the law or in the ethical practice of medicine where a preborn [unborn] child's life need be intentionally destroyed by procured abortion for the purpose of saving the life of the mother. A physician must do everything possible to save the lives of both of his patients, mother and child. He must never intend the death of either."

"This statement contradicts the popular political thinking that such an exception is needed. It reflects the ethical thinking and practice of many physicians, and is based on empirical data provided by physicians over the past thirty years," said American Life League president Judie Brown.

"The 'life of the mother' exception has become standard fare for politicians and legislative proposals claiming the pro-life label. This is why ALL began the campaign with physicians and we are continuing this campaign by, today, challenging every major presidential candidate to face the facts and denounce the life of the mother exception.

"In fact the language is archaic, it does not reflect current medical experience, and it is nothing more than a loophole for the abortionist. The language is a lie.""

    It is honorable and heroic!
She gave her life to save one far more powerless and voiceless.

Heroic indeed. However, this goes to show you why it needs to be pro-choice. Imagine if the woman wasn't allowed to make this decision? Horrible to say the least.
