Anyone have a theory on what kind of big fish this was? I know we have fishermen on the forum. They couldn't photograph it because of the wartime embargo, the area was heavily militarised and blitzed because of weapons and ships were built here. So all there is to go on is a description:
You'd be surprised. The navigable shipping channel is very deep, we have a busy ocean terminal where container ships berth all year and enormous cruise liners berth all summer. As the water is so deep and the river opens into the sea, all kinds of strange creatures wander in. I have stood within 50 feet of a whale and looked it in the eye (I didn't understand the fuss about whales before, but I do now). Porpoises, basking sharks, seals etc... However, this doesn't sound indigenous as you say and wondered if anyone here might recognise the description.
Viv, Stunning photograph, thanks for sharing. And yes, I agree with your comments. There is quiet likely many species yet discovered. *smile* Okay now the truth... I confess I was attempting a set up on a joke, with my previous comment. ~~~~~~ "...glaringly obvious not indigenous to the UK."... Why? ... pfft... the article clearly mentioned it had teeth. ~~~~~~~ I know, I know... in poor taste. But would have only been teasing. Regards
Do I believe in Nessy or other such creatures? The jury is still out. Do I think there is a large hominid in North America?......Yes, without doubt. Could there be large unknown vertebrates roaming the salted seas? Of course.
hey you. If you know that joke about UK, you must know if you call a Scot "UK" you might lose teeth yourself... assuming you have some.
Nessie is real (American...tourism...) I thought some knowledgeable type might enlighten me on the type of animal this was, now that the world is a smaller place, y know.
The Oar Fish is credited to likely be the basis of many a sea serpent myth. These (*)(*)(*)(*)ers can apparently get nearly 60 feet in length. Possibly even longer.
It's a red herring! Wow, he is spectacular. Look at his big red fin. I read in Wiki he can electrocute you if you touch him, but perhaps he has to be alive to send out sparks. It is similar to some of the description, but I don't see any knitting-needle bristles or the flat head and Wiki says oarfish have no visible teeth.
Wow, that is amazing. But I'd never touch one ...apparently it causes moobs. My God! LOL moobs = man boobs
yeah lol. Imagine being a viking explorer back in 1000 AD and throwing the (*)(*)(*)(*) water off the side of the boat one morning, just to come face to face with a 50 foot long one of those! No wonder they all drank rofl.
possum thinks it looks like an overturned fishin' boat... Nessie hunter claims photo shows monster Aug. 15 (UPI) -- A Scottish sailor who has been searching for the Loch Ness monster for the past 26 years said he has captured a photograph of the legendary creature.
