I'm all in for the Girl from Kansas.

I don't know if there are polls covering this issue, but most guys that I've heard express an opinion on this were pro Mary Ann.

No, I like the ladies....but the "farmgirl" type more than the glamorous types.

 

I think, anecdotally, that's true.....M-A wins most polls.

I think part of it is Ginger comes off as a bit of a "tease" on the show and guys can spot "high maintenance" in her. While Maryann has both the "roll up her sleeves" attitude and sweetness....but with the underlying impression?

She'd go all "Ride 'em cowgirl" in bed.

Ginger for me but then I have dated many redheads. Can' help it, that's what I like.

 

I certainly can remember making the comparisons between the two. I don't think I ever settled on a favorite, but I liked the "Ginger" character better.

The actresses' backgrounds sort of reflect their characters.

Dawn Wells was a relatively unknown "ingenue" from Nevada who did a few bit roles, after being Miss Nevada at the 1960 Miss America pageant. And exuded the "innocent farm girl" look.

Tina Louise was already a well-established Broadway actress,who had appeared earlier on, nude in "Playboy" (very tasteful and hardly revealing)....and had the whole "Marlilyn Monroe" glamorous sex symbol thing going well before "Gilligan"

 

The attitude, "sweetness," counts for a lot.

 

No love for Mrs. Howell?

 

I liked Gilligan's Island as a kid and watched in most weeks, but my heart belonged to Elizabeth Montgomery.

 

Man... Just think of all the things that she could have done with that little nose wiggle -- after the cameras were shut down.

 

Mary ann between the two.....but no one compared to Jeanie.

I think they're both good looking girls, and I'd be hard pressed to choose between them.

But the problem with Ginger is she is more manipulative than Mary Ann, and I don't like bossy manipulative girls or women.

TRIVIA: The actress who played Mary Ann has been in horror movies.

 

Not in the television series. Tina was the only actress to ever play Ginger.

I think he's referring to the ORIGINAL PILOT....which had no Mary Ann and Ginger was portrayed by Kit Smythe. The other young female was a typical "dumb blonde" named "Bunny" played by Nancy McCarthy. John Gabriel played the Professor.

I don't know of a "third Ginger" though.
