I have set a couple polls up here, with little result. looking at some other polls run or running and see some with 1400+ views and only like 38 votes.

Answering these polls isn't going to put the wrong person in office. It isn't binding although the author of the poll would want honest answers I'm sure. Most of the time, if you have 100 views you should have 95 votes or so, and the other views are you checking on your poll. If my polls are going to have such dismal results there is no sense in coming here.

There have been quitre a few very successful polls which have spawned some enlightening conversations. I guess the only thing I can recommend is to use superior salesmanship to make the poll more enticing. Also, the poll itself should be a springboard for further discussion and not an ends in itself. You may want to also manage expectations. On other sites, getting a hundred upvotes is pretty common. On this site, anything with more than about 10 votes is exceptional.

It also helps to begin with a good topic and avoid answers that lead to forgone conclusion.

I agree completely. One other thing, the thread title will either doom your thread to obscurity or it will get read by large numbers of people. A thread title with something like "What do you think?" will not get many looks. It is too generic and people may feel they are getting scammed or spammed. A thread title "Politicians you disagree with yet still admire" shows a lot of promise for getting a worthwhile discussion going.

I haven't been on the site for that long and have seen many interesting polls that have sparked up some interesting debates, like another member has already stated. But anyway, welcome to the forums!

I like professional polls that are well done. Well, I can even digest them when medium-rare.
