good wholesome movies by Mel Gibson are meant to educate and entertain, other sinful movies by hollywood are meant to entertain bad fantasies.

    Mel Gibson

He speaks his mind, in the most PC place on the planet.

And, Errol Flynn. That dude knew how to live.

Three pages and I can't believe no one has mention Daniel Day Lewis. In my view one of the finest actors ever. Know for being 'picky', about the roles he'll take on. And I believe that is a GOOD thing. Also known for his obsessive work habits and extreme measures he takes in preparing for his roles, and it shows in his performances.

Yes,One of todays finest. The Problem with Lewis is he picks movie roles
that are challenging and sometimes boring { Unlike a Jimmy Stewart who
picked Everyman type roles }.Plus his voice is not as powerful as his
characters. His version of Abraham Lincoln was weak and boring.
Next to Powerful actor Raymond Massey, their version of Lincoln was
    dramatically separate.As was Henry Fonda's.

So how many Best Actor Academy Awards have you won? Any Golden Globes? Any Critics Choice Awards? How about Screen Actors Guild's? ABAFTAs, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.? Overall he's received 95, count 'em 95, 'Awards' wins. And has been nominated for awards 128 times!

You're entitled to your opinion, of course, but don't quit your day job for that of a critic.

I am thoroughly unmotivated to watch any new Daniel Day-Lewis movie.Let alone
purchase the DVD.I did however BUY and enjoy very much his character in :
    - Gangs of New York - { 2002} as Bill " The Butcher " Cutting.
The entire cast was as good as it gets. But it was Bill the Butcher who dominated
and made the movie an outstanding spectacle.I don't believe the Silver screen has
ever offered such a dynamic, credible bad guy such as Bill Cutting.
    However 2002 was ages ago.

I'm sure your lack of viewing any new Daniel Day Lewis film will not be missed on any level or in any way effect how the film would be received by viewers or critics. And while I've read your post on Paul Muni, aren't they any other male actors you might consider as 'favorites'? After all that is what this thread is supposed to be about.

I wrote Film reviews for awhile. Not professionally but as a film buff.
I have too many favorites to expound upon.
My Top 5 favorite actors adjust every few years.
I will say this.Until a read a definitive Book on Film - Schickel on Film - I was
dead set against Gary Cooper.I discounted his performances.I didn't learn to
appreciate his subtle depth of characterizations until reading an explanation on
his greatness.I also don't feel Humphrey Bogart was ALL THAT. I like some of his
movies but James Cagney was far better.Bogart's last film is one of my favorites.
    - The Harder They Fall - { 1956 }. The cast was especially spot-on.

Though limited in his range by his voice and physical appearance, Clint Eastwood is one of my favorites.

I liked Clint until he starred in that move "The RNC"....that was a really bad comedy.

I was agin Eastwood till about 10 years ago.Still am as far as those
stupid spaghetti western. But his big city cop movies are really good.I kinda liked
    - Play Misty for Me - back years ago. I am still finishing up on a movie I bought
and started watching a couple weeks ago - Where Eagles Dare - with Richard Burton.
It's a long movie but good.I usually keep a few movies on standby after watching
    the first half.Right now it's - Nevada Smith - { 1966 } one of Steve McQueens best.
McQueen is probably in my top 20 actors of all time.
Richard Burton is another actor who kinda sucked.Had a good voice and that was
    about it.

    Finishing scene of - Nevada Smith - { 1966 }
" Finish me ! Ya haven't got the Guts .. yer Yella.Yer Yella ! Ya haven't got the guts.
    Ya haven't got the guts.Yer Yella.Yer Yella ."
    - Karl Malden { played the bad guy }

Nick Nolte in the days before he got all (*)(*)(*)(*)ed up.

His part in 48 Hours was GREAT!

Nolte is one of my favorites. His - Affliction - { 1997 } is his best.
    Also - Cape Fear - { 1991 }.
To some degree - The Prince of Tides - { 1991 } but I cannot stand Streisand.
    It kinda all started with - Who'll Stop the Rain - { 1978 }
    I bought - Warrior - { 2011 } which was good.
Also - A Walk in the Woods - { 2015 } teaming up with Robert Redford
which was neat but too short.
But there is no question that - Affliction - is his best.Almost by far.
It's one of those great movies I'll watch religiously every year.
James Coburn won his Oscar for his portrayal of Nolte's cantankerous
and always tipsy { nice way of saying drunken } old man.
Nolte and the old man clash over their past and personalities.Old Man
Coburn accusing Nolte of being a " Pu$$y " kinda like what Clint Eastwood
    accused today's youth of.

Any actor who can carry a scene without cuttng away to a different one after 30 to 120 seconds like "Friends," always did, or any actor, unlike the new JJ Abrams Star Trek, like Patrick Stewart who can carry the film without 8 camera angles and the CGI special effects spinning the viewer 360 degrees, or having a scene copied like a light-saber fight from Lucas battle around lava, over dramatized by the ground breaking away like 'Star Wars VII' did because JJ Abrams is a hack who ran out of ideas, and Hollywood wanted a quick buck.

The mark of a good vs. great actor is their performance.Plus maybe their
    overall strength of persona.
Broadway actors may have better acting chops, but it's the Silver Screen
that measures the actor. It's definitely not by any stretch fair or equitable.
But then what horse race enthuthiast wants to dwell on some
small racetrack result.I'm sure there might have been many an up and coming
Babe Ruth who played in Little League, also.
You go to the Silver Screen with the acting chops you have. The screen and the
viewer will decide on what's best. Not always but enough times to count.

Possibly the most drawn out, boring movie I've seen in a long time. I couldn't finish it.

    I like Clint Eastwood.

    Used to love Robert Redford.

    Yeah -

I got to get back to my great digital cable selection on TV now - fortunately I didn't waste any money on a new HD set. Lets see tonights schedule includes 4 hours of "the First 48 on A/E, and 4 hours of "60 days in Jail" on the same channel. Or I could watch 4 hours straight of "Blue Bloods" on ION TV channel, or 4 straight hours of "COPS: Reloaded" reruns, if I want to watch the fuzz abuse minorities, or 4 hours of "Law and Order" on the USA Network. MSNBC has 4 hours of "Women Behind Bars" What choices!

And they say America isn't a police state.

Is this why we are conducting so many unending Middle East oil wars, so we can power our American I-Phones, HD-TVs, and power guzzling video consoles with incessant police state garbage, endless police shooting guns dramas, and first person, military shooter war video game crappola?

Robert Redford is truly a boring actor. He's one of those Hollywood actors who's
    stuck on himself. I liked the movie with Nick Nolte - A Walk in the Woods - {2015}
where he produced and starred. But the movie was like half a movie. It never really got
    off the ground much.
However,One that was Interesting by Redford as he was the sole cast member.
Therefore little if any dialogue was - All is Lost - { 2013 }.where he finds himself
awakened to being on his sailboat, all alone and it was rammed at night while he
slept. He has to deal with a sinking sailboat at sea and it's far from any port.
The Sting was probably his best Movie.
I saw an early version of him { TV } playing in the stage hit - The Iceman Cometh -.

I used to have the biggest crush ever on Jannis Niewöhner (ughhh he's gorgeous and I love the way his German sounds for some reason) and also, way way back, on the Bollywood actor Hritik Roshan, who played this really suave criminal in a mid-noughties film and made me completely obsessed with him. He was like the first guy I remember finding cute. His eyes are the most beautiful colour <3

Also Aleksei Vorobiov is luuush. And as for sheer acting talent, I really like Ralph Fiennes, Leonardo DiCaprio, Colin Firth and a few others who have been mentioned.

Never thought about this....hmmmm Bradley James.....from a history of staunch heterosexuality, I can say, without a doubt, that man is beautiful.

No but seriously he is a pretty good actor and he played Damien good in Damien's Omen and also did a good job on Merlin.
