    Yes, you're right.

Don't see many doctors or lawyers driving around with Australian flags on their BMWs.

It's always tradies in their black Holden utes.

Im not sure if you understand much at all but I hate no one. I have a low tolerance level for stupidity but I dont hate ignorant people, I either ignore them or just try and educate them. Hows your understanding level on this post?

Some us who aren`t simple minded enough to allow ourselves to be brainwashed into shame of our country, actually celebrate the fact that we live in such a wonderful country. It`s nothing to get all defensive about, it`s not a competition of Australianness, please don`t feel inferior, not regarding this point at least.

Not every little thing is racist, homophobic, or whatever the present PC topic of wrist flapping righteous indignation may be. Not everyone dreams of a hate filled hell hole as the ideal model for future Australia. Some of us actually appreciate the good things in life, and work to maintain, and improve this lifestyle.

To love Australia isn`t an IQ test, it has nothing to do with a person`s station in life, this is a beautiful place.

    Appologies for the positivity.

You come across as a rather sad individual, perhaps you were bullied at school, but life in this country is good, not perfect, some things need work, but reality must be faced.

The intelligent ones don't need meaningless symbols to 'celebrate the fact that we live in such a wonderful country'.

Some people are just attention whores I guess.

To many people, the flag symbolises our country, they aren`t ashamed of it, they aren`t caught up in knocking and whining. To insult someone`s inteligence simply for showing their love for this country is a low blow.

It's not about 'showing their love for this country'.

It's about racism and attention whoring.

Pure nonsense, the Australian flag is not an object to be appropriated at will by insecure bogans looking for a prop to compensate for their inferiority complexes. And nobody in this thread has stated they are ashamed of the flag. Lying about what other people post doesnt give any impetus or credibility to your fragile jingoistic argument.

You claim to be intelligent yet you use statistics, inproven, unreferenced. Did you just poll your family?

Statistics are bulldung and so is your assessment of yourself. I refer to EEyore, err Ianne.

Looks like the Aussie flag has stirred up some of the envy, insecurity and prejudice down in Loserville.

    Suck it up sisters.

What a crock. It`s not racist to be aware of your surroundings. To not be aware, is stupid.

    Hmmm, interesting critique.

I'm willing to look at your studies and critique your findings, if you wish.

I quite like that one from the University anthropologist though.

However, if there is another one available from your good self I'd certainly like to take a look.

Your "university study" has no credability. You just love anything that tries to drag Australia down. Not working, sorrry.

    Incorrect.

"Farida Fozdar (aka Tilbury) completed her PhD at Victoria University of Wellington, and took up a position in Sociology and Community Development at Murdoch University in 2003. In 2011 she received an ARC Future Fellowship which she took up at UWA."

    http://www.uwa.edu.au/people/farida.fozdar

"As Western Australia's leading university, UWA was rated second overall in Australia by the Good Universities Guide 2011 based on key performance measures such as graduate starting salaries, employment prospects, staff qualifications, research intensity and student demand."

    http://www.uwa.edu.au/university

Incorrect. I do love a good, credible study though.

Researchers surveyed 513 revellers among the 300,000 gathered to watch the Australia Day fireworks in Perth last year.

Not a particularily fantastic data set. I wonder how many were drunk, I wonder how many were with family or with friends, I wonder how late at night it was when they did this which could reduce the number of families with young children in attendance.

To think this means anything in the slightest is wishful thinking. Survey's like this are just excuses to train uni students in field research arent they? Its probably not meant to add any real scientific input in the slightest and only advertised to get attention to the University and the author.
