I understand fully the pro's to a constitutional monarchy, but having a 'royal' family is something that I find is socially regressive and we need to move on to a modern and more socially inclusive system.
Not talking from personal experience, but I find it appropriate to simply vote them out. Showing our heads of state stuck on a spike tended to turn into a mess.
I imagine that a a referendum on it is some way away, but you never know once Charles is on the throne that could all change! And as for impaling people on spikes, if that is is how you do things in France are Sarkozy's days numbered ?
Me too. She was touring most of London and the whole of our school was taken to one of the roads on the route. At that time, I had one of those Kodak cameras that you had to hold at your chest to see the viewfinder and I was in the front row but imagine my consternation when the roll of film was developed and all I got was the trunk of the car.
The whole British Empire (that was) owes you a debt. You can collect it in the Mile End Road on your next visit.
I suppose he will simply go away, once he is voted out, as any decent bloke would do. We might hear from the crowd outside some "casse-toi pauv' con" though
So, would you support Tony Blair as President of Great Britain? I wouldn't use the word regressive, but repulsive.
I suspect the concept and practise of an up to date Monarchy is a rather too elegant and sophisticated idea for people like most of you here to understand . Let's simply say that when it is working , it is like having a warm and binding glue joining disparate parts together . And for many , it provides them with a fantasy world that they often need . Just remember how Princess Die ( you ficker))was worshipped by so many and that it was spread across all ages and classes . It's like story telling which is also subjective and fictional --- a necessary non harmful drug which strangely keeps mind , body and soul in balance for so many . And when the Royal Gang come out to play , the whole country becomes stuffed with Americans , Germans , French and Chinese -- they cannot get enough of Queenie and her world .
I thought you knew all about the English. Your posts imply that you do. However.............http://www.worldwidewords.org/qa/qa-all1.htm
I asked for an explanation because I thought you were acting in good faith. I didn't realize you were making a personal attack.
It's an English saying and no worse than many similar ones quote by Americans. Perhaps you would have been more satisfied if I had stated that you don't know what you are talking about. Unless that's considered a personal attack too.
