Now......I truly hope you are not calling me a liar here, TFM. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you are not.

I am sorry, but there is a group that sits around an reps each other not on merit, but because they sit around and rep each other as much as possible every day. Please do not expect me to believe your statement to the contrary because your statement is not true.

You can give me the "benefit of the doubt" or not. I don't particularly care as everyone here knows I am correct.

I don't know you are correct. You, sir do not know what is in the mind of another when they give reputation, unless for some reason you are hacking the system and reading everyone's reps.

Sorry....but there has never been any such proof. Everybody posts under the same rules. And BTW, the message one gets when they Rep someone else is...."thank you, maybe someone will return a rep to you..." (paraphrasing from memory). IOW, it encourages it and nowhere is it stated that the Rep's must be for what YOU think is a great post. Often, Rep's are not about posts at all.....and that is done by both Democrats and Republicans alike.

    That is simply not true.

There is a group that sits around and reps as much as possible every single day. This has gone on for years. It is not a secret, and making statements to the contrary will not make your statements correct.

Indeed. It is apparent they are about popularity.

Besides that....where is it written the Rep's must be for Great posts? And who would get to decide that anyway??? The Rep system has always been used as sort of a "quick message" to someone (usually friends) about posts or anything else...IF someone cares to use it. And that has always been the case by all political parties involved here. Mods are the only ones who can look at the actual messages....so we know exactly how they have been used and the kinds of comments that have been made. No one else does.....

Why even try to deny it? As TFM said, a lot of us know beyond doubt there is or was an organised rep ring. You're probably the queen of it, knowing you.:boo::nana:

One good thing about the new versions of vBulletin is that the repping of posts is a great deal more transparent. The reppers are shown at the post level so you know who is bumping whom.

PF isn't the first forum to struggle with people gaming the reputation system and it won't be the last. Skepticism is natural in a closed system like the rep system here at PF that results in a stats board that is heavily skewed towards one side of the partisan divide that is reflected in the political leanings of the mod team.

This doesn't mean that people automatically assume that the mods are helping game the system, it just means that there is an incongruity that a more balanced approach would seek to eliminate or at least explain.

Personally, if the stats can be brought back w/o the server taking a hit, I say go ahead. I rarely even bother going to the stats page as it's usually just a waste of time so it's not even a small concern if it makes others happy.

You know, I find it very offensive that he can claim "some of us are just repping each other" for nothing. And then go on to basically say - you (JP5) don't know what you're talking about or if you do, then you are being "silly."

You just stated you've been on it before. I think you were on it not too long ago. So, does that mean you are popular? Or do you think it was the quality of your posts?

None of what you claim means anybody is "gaming" the system. If you can show me the rule that states friends cannot rep each other as often as the system allows it.....then please furnish it.

I have to agree. It gives a great feedback and a reason to stay positive in your posting.

Trust me, I am not popular or liked. Comes with the territory of being so right, so often.

I see the goalposts have been moved.

And maybe it's indicative of who's most generous in sharing their reps and who is not.

As this post clearly demonstrates, it probably comes from somewhere else.

It makes sense to me that someone who goes out of their way to not be liked would naturally not receive as many pats on the back while posting. The same logic applies to the kid in school who eats lunch in the corner by himself while others are out having fun with their friends. Human nature.

The only reason the libs don't rep is because they are too greedy, believe me it isn't because they want to supposedly earn what they get.

That would require effort on their part. I think they are pushing moderators to redistribute reps from conservatives and spread it around equally. You know, "in the interest of fairness."

I have no reason to believe there is a political motive here either. I'm sure that they will restore the stats as soon as they can. I think they are an important to make the site more user friendly and to quick reference what is the most recent, currently popular and active threads.

That is so funny. You are one of the funniest posters on PF. I like the way you sum stuff up in one sentence with your rapier wit.

I agree. Would like to see that. The only people who are complaining have never made the boards, or they are just jealous.

Although I didn't suggest it was a partisan action, and I'm not suggesting that now, hey - people are gonna think what they will. That sort of thing happens on forums all the time.

We just want to see the stats come back later, when the site is upgraded.
Everyone has been wanting the problems fixed for a long time, and I think I speak for everyone, that we're all very happy to see the problems are being tackled.

We may have our differences here, but we're all a community of sorts.
Everyone is looking forward to a better running PF.
