When is the rep board/links going to be back, if ever?

    http://www.politicalforum.com/forum...eed-know-about-credits-reputation-system.html

So what is the point of the list?

Other forums have much better systems.

I see no point at all for this rep system other than as a quick way to send a PM.

Calling it a "reputation system", which obviously implies that it reflects some kind of merit in the posters content, is plainly misleading. Since the site moderators make it quite clear that it is not intended as such.

So again, what is the point of a "top reputation" list? If it "shouldn't be considered in any way as an accurate list of 'best posters', or an indication of who is making the 'best quality posts'". Then what is it for?

As far as I can see the "Top posters" and "Top reputation" lists just encourage, and is a reflection of, spamming. They spam to get on the "top posters" lists, and the spamming gives them more "rep power" to get themselves and their buddies on "top rep" list. And so the site is flooded with all these one sentence posts, and people who're posting a lot in the "off-topic" section doing the little games and whatever become the "top contributors" to a political discussion forum. It's pretty retarded.

I think the sites political content would improve if these systems were changed or removed.

it does reflect some type of merit. It represents the top reps in the forum for the week. Just because you're not on it, does not make it any less valuable.

Funny I've seen lots of good posts from those on the rep list, I've never seen one from you.

I get that, and no offense to her at all, but it's prolly not the main thing or the only thing.
    That was my point.

I wasn't insulting the owner. I wouldn't do that. There's no reason for it.

Those plugins are not compatible with the coming update. Once the forum is upgraded to a newer version of vbulletin it should no longer be a problem.

And the "top reps", "shouldn't be considered in any way as an accurate list of 'best posters', or an indication of who is making the 'best quality posts'."

So again, what is the point of the list?

I would much prefer if there was a "top posts" list where the posts that received the most rep for the day were listed. That would actually be useful, and encourage quality posts.

I really could not care less whether I'm on it or not.

The point is, you get "credits" for the amount of posts you make and you get yourself on the "top posters" list, both of which encourages spamming.

Then credits give you "rep power", so it's not even necessarily the posts that get "rep" from the most people, it's the ones that get it from the people with huge amounts of "credits", aka spammers.

The whole system encourages spamming/quantity of posts, and not quality posts.

Again I could not care less. And as I post almost exclusively in the Australia section I seriously doubt you've even read many of my posts at all.

They were part of the speed problem, and they are not compatible with the current server software.

When we move to the new vBulletin version, there will be some kind of similar stats.

Now that PoliticalForum has explained the situation I think the thread has run its course. People's concerns are considered and the input is appreciated. Please remember, this is only a temporary situation.

    Thanks.
