SC high school bans American flags at football game

Can link me to the part in the story where it said "some white kids" I didnt know only white kids were told this. Seems odd, you sure you just didnt freudian slip some racism?

Really? This whole thread is about how the American flag could be used to taunt other Americans, while the left defends it due to if possibly offending someone (other Americans). I never thought I would ever read something so stupid, until I read the lefties defenses.

 

According to the comments section of this story, the American flags were waved as a response to Mexican flags being waved on the other side.

If this is true, then why hasn't that been mentioned in other stories. Wouldn't it be just as racist to fly a Mexican flag to taunt white Americans?

 

I haven't been to that school in 40+ yrs and they are talking about the same thing that was happening in those days. Only its Hispanics today instead of black folks.

His school is too small for a football team, but it's not unusual to see large American flags flown in the back of trucks here. Just yesterday, I saw TWO very large flags in the back of a pickup truck. The horror! Surely they were only flying them to be racist to minorities.

 

That is different from waving one while you are in the stands at a football game.

Why is that horrible? Who said you can't fly a flag on the back of a pick up truck? Now you want to move the goalposts.

Why would the students fly mexican flags? Aren't they Americans? I'm of french/cajun descent and it never occurred to me to fly any other flag other than American.

 

Did the principal make them put down the Mexican flags as well?

 

According to this thread, it's only okay if your intention is to not offend others. But why would an American flag in American EVER offend anyone?

 

It should never offend anyone unless you use it in a manner to try and taunt other folks like some kids did at a soccer game when they were telling the opposing teams players who were Mexican that Trump was going to build a wall.

There was a time that the Confederate Flag was used to taunt and incite fear into black folks, but today we are told it is just a part of Southern Heritage.

Surely you know the difference between the two.

 

That still doesn't answer my question. Even if their intention was to taunt the other team with the flag, why would it bother the other team? Aren't they Americans? The same with the building a wall, if those students are Americans, how could they be taunted with that? Can I taunt you with a carrot? No? Because the carrot doesn't offend you, the same with the flag.

 

I had a quick search for photos for "Berea HS waiving Mexican flags" which I presume is the comment you are referring to and expected to see one photo but found none so not sure how much truth should be put on that comment.

However, I agree with you that if one flag was banned, so should the other. BUT it appears that only the full size flag was banned implying that small US flags were still allowed..

 

When things are good they are. What I mean by that is, conservatives love to claim we are all Americans until it comes to crime, welfare, drugs, etc.

Many Americans who are of Mexican descent still have family members who live in Mexico and many of the Mexicans who are here today came from Mexico, so with that being said I am pretty sure you can understand why that would offend them.

 

At a game, they were taunting the other teams with the flags calling them Mexicans and they weren't Americans. That is misusing the flag. Why would you support the flag being used to taunt people?

 

Sorry but no. If anyone can ever be "offended" by the American flag, they probably shouldn't be here. Surely, if they were born in Mexico and legally came to America and became citizens, they should be proud of the flag? I'm just not buying the excuses. And I can't recall anyone judging someone's citizenship based on welfare/crime/etc. Now, speaking of illegals in that regard is a different story, but that's not what this discussion is about.

 

A traditionally patriotic person may well agree with the banning of inappropriate displays of the national symbol. I'm recalling how some conservatives have an issue with shirts displaying the flag for example. I'm sure there are others. This isn't just some leftwing protest against the country's symbol.

 

You're not comprehending or following, are you? How can Americans possibly be offended by the flag? How? I don't care what country they were born in, they shouldn't be offended if there were 100 flags flying. In case you missed it, this IS America.
