True, but let us not ascribe the reason to insanity just yet. We don't know. Criminals pull guns on people all the time, it is crazy activity for sure, but it doesn't make 'em less criminal. Let's find out, shouldn't we?

uh.... how? Unless you're just going to shoot through the hostage then I don't see how having a gun helps much at all. Even if the hostage holder just has a knife at the neck they still seem to have the advantage.

Now the major thing I think a gun wielder should do is to point out that once the hostage is dead the hostage holder needs to consider just how excruciating some gunshot wounds can honestly be (I will leave which ones as an exercise for the reader)

Because people tend to get very scared and intimidated when they see someone has a gun with them and they don't, and no one wants to risk being shot either.

 

But wasn't the argument about why one should always HAVE a gun themselves?

 

I think there's pretty substantial evidence that he had at least some leftist political views.

 

Was it? Anyway, always having a gun means you generally have the advantage in any situation and people would be stupid to try and mess with you, but the problem is everyone else having a gun means everyone is likely thinking the same thing.

 

I carry a gun at all times, nobody knows it; gives me an edge on most attackers, even the armed ones.
It is better than getting beat to death, killed by a rock or a sharp stick. If I am going into a "battle zone" I carry a bigger gun, (also concealed) with a lot of magazines.
