You seem to think a proportionate response is for Israel to go rape, murder, and slaughter as many Gazans as Gazans slaughtered and raped Jews. That's not what is meant by a proportionate response.

A proportionate response is one that makes the attacker decide that attacking you again is not worth the repercussions. This has yet to be achieved. Gaza is still launching rockets and holding hostages.

For example, Israel's missile response to Iran seems to have done the trick. Once Israel demonstrated how easily and quickly they could take out the air defense that Iran thought would protect their nuclear program from air attack, Iran shows no more interest in sending drones and missiles against Israel.

Israel hasn't finished the job in Gaza, and I think they would be fools to leave it undone. They need to pacify every square inch of Gaza and bring every last terrorist to justice.

Normally it is, frankly, just look at Israel and Iran. It's hugely helpful that the US helped the Iran attack to fail, because then it helped prevent tit for tat escalation. Iran was able to be dismissive of Israel's next counterattack, because it was small and mild, and the cycle was disrupted. This would not have sufficed if Iran's attack had been more successful.

Stopping future attacks is more about imposing a cost on any enemy who attacks you to deter them. Proportionate response isn't really the goal of Israel as stated. Eradication is the goal. They say of Hamas, but their actions suggest it's more than Hamas.

It's a convenient excuse for ethnic cleansing. Short of that, their actions so far would have created more terrorists than it killed. It still probably would even with a fully successful ethnic cleansing, just outside of gaza. And note I said ethnic cleansing. This is not the same thing as genocide.

Yep, some people go over the line from passionate to just crazy.

Yes and rudeness appears to become more popular in America by the day.

Thats not just some people. Thats one of the 4 leaders of "Columbia United Apartheid Divest". The most prominent spokesperson for the group negotiating with the Columbia administration. They wholeheartedly support the actions of Hamas on Oct 7, proclaiming that “Zionists don’t deserve to live.” He probably represents the typical views of the students protesting.

Looks like Speaker Johnson was onto something:

STANDING UP TO HATRED AND BIGOTRY: 13 Federal Judges Say They Will No Longer Hire Law Clerks From Columbia University, Citing ‘Virulent Spread of Antisemitism’ and ‘Explosion of Student Disruptions’.

'The letter marks a new front in the hellish public relations war that has consumed Columbia and cost it major donor capital. As the encampment drew throngs of outsiders to the university’s doorstep—some of whom promised daily repeats of the Oct. 7 attacks—pressure mounted on Shafik, the university’s president, to lay down the law.'

'She did not do so until April 30, after nearly 5,000 alumni signed a petition demanding that the police clear Hamilton Hall. In the interim, Columbia lost one of its most prominent patrons, Robert Kraft, who said he could not in good conscience donate to a school awash in “virulent hate.” Billionaires Leon Cooperman and Henry Swieca have also cut ties with the university.'

Mike Johnson continues his clown show speech tour this morning. I think he forgot his job description.

Too much of the Left infected.

Anti-Semitism on the Rise in Progressive High Schools

'The scene at Hillcrest High School in Queens as a Jewish teacher hid in her locked office for hours while students demanded she be fired for attending a pro-Israel rally.'

This level of Jewish hate on schools and Universities, in America. I don't want to hear anything more about "intolerance" from the Left until they clean this up.

    Other Incidents:

'On Oct. 26, just three weeks after the Oct. 7 Hamas massacre of 1,200 Israelis, 40 to 50 teens marched through Origins HS in Sheepshead Bay waving a Palestinian flag and chanting “Death to Israel!” and “Kill the Jews!” staffers said...'
    • 'A 10th-grader told Kaminsky, 33, who is Jewish, “I wish you were killed.”
    • Another student called her “a dirty Jew” and said he wished Hitler could have “hit more Jews,” including her.
    • Students pasted drawings of the Palestinian flag and notes saying “Free Palestine” on Kaminsky’s classroom door. One scribbled note that said simply, “Die.”...'
    At Berkeley:

'school “walkouts” praising Hamas with students shouting “f-- the Jews” and “KKK.” Teachers use class time to propagandize that the Hamas massacre was admirable “resistance.” Following their teachers’ lead, students bully their Jewish peers and deride their physical appearance. Misguided administrators have attempted to “resolve” problems involving teachers by moving Jewish and Israeli students into new classes. As a result, anti-Semitism is normalized throughout BUSD.'

    Enough is enough.

If I understand you correctly, you are attacking Biden for supporting Israel and encouraging voters to not vote for Biden.

I thought I was attacking Mike Johnson for being tone deaf with respect to student attitudes, as well as involving himself in a situation that is not within the scope of the Speaker of the House's responsibilities. He should stay in DC and try to make the House function.

As for Biden, I suppose he's part of DC officialdom, but choosing who to vote for in November requires balancing the candidates' positions on a variety of policies, not just support or non-support of Israel.

Does that extend to Mike Johnson?

Usually a Speaker will be reelected because they can bring the "bacon" home to their voters.

However, Johnson is a particularly weak Speaker in a precarious position, so that may not be as true as in the past.
