I sure do grab my guns. I also clean them and won't hesitate to grab it if someone unwanted illegally enters my home!
How could you commit suicide with a gun without a gun? Lemme guess, there is a direct correlation between fatal car accidents and those who own cars. Amirite?
Sounded kinda flippant and neutral. My mistake. I guess that means you agree that gun control data resources *should* specify when their data incorporates suicides, iiuc.
Thats wasn't the question... Also, you must've missed my other question earlier. What presumptive conclusions have I made based on incomplete data? I only recall providing alternative POSSIBILITIES to your conclusion that gun control reduces suicide.
There are alternative possibilities to every study under the sun. But the evidence in this case is overwhelming
The evidence is simplistic and circumstancial. Its the most basic example of correlation =\= causation. They ruled out but a handful of hundreds of plausible and indeed likely alternative explanations to the relationship between gun laws and suicide. Very poor 'science' that reaks of agenda and propaganda, and is widely disputed by mental health professionals.
Agreed, but the maxim "Don't feed the trolls" is applicable here. Meanwhile, there is a ton of evidence on this thread that self-declared mental health care experts don't give rat's patootie about focusing upon mental health care to reduce suicides. They are primarily concerned about banning guns....and, of course, trolling pro-Second Amendment advocates.
Yes You do get jokes You also make jokes Lots of posts are jokes A regular comedy hour Ha ha We get it
What was presented was not evidence, it was nothing more than mere hypothesis. Since no actual evidence has been presented, no evidence of the validity of the claim actually exists.
One thing that hasn't been discussed, AFAIK, is when suicide is justified. Admittedly, most suicides are due to mental illness. Usually depression. However, a portion of them are due to physical illness. Since assisted suicide is still verboten in many parts of the nation, the person suffering has no recourse to end the pain except to do it themselves, usually through asphyxiation (hanging) or a handgun. If we legalized assisted suicide across the nation, the number of "gun deaths" would certainly drop. A benefit if this would be the obvious requirement of a screening process which would separate out those who have a terminal disease and those who are simply depressed or otherwise mentally ill. By identifying the latter, they have a higher chance of receiving the treatment they so desperately need. http://www.assistedsuicide.org/ FWIW, I've never heard of a person committing suicide by "assault weapon" although I'm sure it's been done. A handgun is the most common means followed by a shotgun. Those who seek to ban guns clamor about suicide then move to banning assault weapons thus revealing their true deception and intent.
Another of your many deceptions unsupported by facts and proving once again you don't give a damn about saving lives; you're only interested in banning guns. Thanks for the additional evidence. Speaking of evidence, here's what it looks like: http://www.apa.org/about/gr/pi/advocacy/2001/rosenfeld.aspx More than 60% of patients with cancer and AIDS experience persistent pain 1,2 42% of patients with cancer are under-medicated for their pain 1 86% of patients with AIDS are under-medicated for their pain 2 50% of doctors fear that their patients will become addicted to pain medications 3 less than 1 % of cancer patients actually become dependent on pain medications 4 12 % of doctors receive "good" training in pain management/palliative care in medical school 5 Mental Health Care 15-20% of terminally ill patients are diagnosed with a "major depression" 6,7 49% of severely depressed cancer patients are considered (by their doctor) to have NO depression 8 70-80% of terminally ill patients with depression respond to treatment (when provided) 9 roughly 50% of suicides in terminally ill patients are attributable to untreated depression 9 25% of elderly depressed patients changed their minds about end-of-life interventions after treatment 11 https://academic.oup.com/jnci/artic...High-Suicide-Rate-Among-Cancer-Patients-Fuels The suicide rate in cancer patients is twice that observed in the general population in the United States, according to a new study, one of several published recently that have focused on the issue. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2011/aug/23/suicide-chronic-illness-study One in 10 suicides linked to chronic illness, study finds FWIW, I strongly doubt anyone who is truly a mental health care expert would be so callous about the lives of those living in pain.
