Why are soo many of the threads and posts in this forum filled with outright anger and hostility?

I've been to many forums over the years but this one sure is filled with hate, beligerence, and just bad attitudes.

Are folks really this angry? Can't we discuss issues without insulting each other?

Mostly due to TDS. It will wane eventually when they get distracted by something else to be horribly offended by.

many of the angry/hostile posts and threads come from Trump-supporting Conservatives.

I think that I do a good job of keeping my anger in check. All of the smears do get tiresome, though.

It might be nice if people would stop saying mean lies about me.

The media-political class foment the hate and anger because they are strong emotions. When someone is holding strong emotions, their ability to think critically is impaired. This makes them more easily manipulated.

It's a well known and regularly used tactic. All you have to do, is convince a large enough segment of the population that your opponents are evil, racist Nazis and they'll do all kinds of self-defeating things in order to stop the threat.

In addition to TDS, cowardice & anonymity are likely the causes of the most insulting & bellicose Posts.
Additionally, a lack of linguistic skills leave one with only vulgarity & insults in their semantic arsenal.

Posting on a Forum is very much like driving in traffic. You're hidden either behind your screen or the safety of your car. I've found that some of the most aggressive drivers are small & angry little cowards out of their vehicles & confronted face to face.

I suspect it is the same with angry Posters who are angry, little cowards but free to finally strike back, anonymously, at the larger individuals that intimidate or bully them in real life.

It could be than angry & insulting posters are victims of spouse abuse whether they're male or female & just gotten slapped around by their wife before taking to the keyboard.

At any rate while I find angry & insulting Posts irritating, I consider the source and pity the miserable little lives that lie behind the fury of a bombastic & puerile tantrum.

Why would trump supporters be angry? They are the dominant winners of the election. The angry people are making threads about things trump is not doing that upsets them.

I may sometimes fall into this category ... I have little patients for trolls and there are a couple who post the same, inane, hyperbolic threads day after day after day after day. And what sometimes looks like anger on my part, is just trolling them back for fun ...

There are a number of posters who I just disagree with but who bring reasoned, well thought out debate to the table (hello ArmySoldier and Thought Criminal) and I try not to be disrespectful - though I am told I have a too dry a sense of humor.

Right wingers are always filled with hate and anger. It is in their nature even though the majority of them claim to be moral Christians who uphold wholesome values. Somehow in their minds, hate, bigotry, and personal attacks are ok and sanctioned by some god.

many of them are angry that the Democrats are unified against Trump's agenda and the GOP can't get unified behind Trump's.

One reason people are angry, with people like you, Ronstar, is that we are in the longest war in US history, and the enemy is clearly following the teachings of one illogical book (it says its founder "split the moon", for example), and you can't condemn those that believe in said outdated book.

Mohammad started it, 1400 years ago.
But this particular battle started on 9/11/2001, so 16 years and counting, officially....with no end in sight.

Qur'an 8:39 is partly to blame - it teaches Muslims to fight us (i.e. war against us) until the ENTIRE WORLD BECOMES MUSLIM!
"And fight them until there is no more Fitnah (disbelief and polytheism: i.e. worshipping others besides Allah) and the religion (worship) will all be for Allah Alone [in the whole of the world]. Q8:39 (Mohsin Khan.)

Afghanistan had nothing to do with 9/11. Please check your claims before posting as that is often a big problem on this forum. The other part of your posting is irrelevant.

Wait - 20% of the world has instructions from their PERFECT GOD, that says to fight in war against us until we all become Muslim (Q8:39), and that's "irrelevant" to you!! WTF!?

^ myth making will never solve your problem

And that is one of the biggest problems as to why there is so much hostility in this forum - right wingers conveniently like to make up their own sets of "facts" and god help anyone who dares to disagree.

As we all know, Afghanistan had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11 as that was an act committed by hysterical fanatics from a terrorist, not government, group. Not a single shred of evidence has ever been presented to affirm the claim made that the government in Kabul orchestrated that attack. If it had, it would have been presented on TV and everybody would know it.

So here is my challenge to this angry right winger above - name the Afghani officials who orchestrated and sanctioned the attack. This should prove interesting ...

    Moving the goalposts.

I'm pretty sure that no one ever claimed the Taliban participated in the 9-11 terrorist attacks. They only sheltered those who did.

That's a good example of an unfair post that can lead to frustration and anger.

There was no conflict between the US & the Islamic world until the US began its unconditional support of a certain Zionist Colony that became Israel.

“Every time anyone says that Israel is our only friend in the Middle East, I can’t help but think that before Israel, we had no enemies in the Middle East.”– John Sheehan, Society of Jesus. (Jesuit priest)

Please attempt to name just ONE Islamic attack on the US that predates Truman's support of the Zionist cause.

When I was in the Islamic Mid East, the 2 questions I was asked most frequently were:
    1. "Why do Americans suddenly hate us?"
    2. "Why does America help the Israelis kill Palestinians and drive them from their homes?"

I was in the Islamic Mid East for 10 - 11 month (1973) and was/am obviously American. Without exception, I was treated wonderfully throughout Iraq, Syria, Turkey, Lebanon and only experienced friendliness, warm hospitality , amazing generosity & an extreme curiosity about all things American.

If they now hate us it is not because of who we are but because of what we have done to them in the name of "keeping Israel secure" & our fatally flawed "War on Terrorism":

The crime of making Americans aware of their own history"

    http://www.foreignpolicyjournal.com...-making-americans-aware-of-their-own-history/

EXCERPT "Is history getting too close for comfort for the fragile little American heart and mind? Their schools and their favorite media have done an excellent job of keeping them ignorant of what their favorite country has done to the rest of the world, but lately some discomforting points of view have managed to find their way into this well-defended American consciousness.

What, then, is the basis of all this? What has the United States actually been doing in the Middle East in the recent past?

    • the shooting down of two Libyan planes in 1981

    • the bombing of Lebanon in 1983 and 1984

    • the bombing of Libya in 1986

    • the bombing and sinking of an Iranian ship in 1987

    • the shooting down of an Iranian passenger plane in 1988

    • the shooting down of two more Libyan planes in 1989

    • the massive bombing of the Iraqi people in 1991

    • the continuing bombings and draconian sanctions against Iraq for the next 12 years

    • the bombing of Afghanistan and Sudan in 1998

    • the habitual support of Israel despite the routine devastation and torture it inflicts upon the Palestinian people

    • the habitual condemnation of Palestinian resistance to this

    • the abduction of “suspected terrorists” from Muslim countries, such as Malaysia, Pakistan, Lebanon and Albania, who were then taken to places like Egypt and Saudi Arabia, where they were tortured

    • the large military and hi-tech presence in Islam’s holiest land, Saudi Arabia, and elsewhere in the Persian Gulf region

    • the support of numerous undemocratic, authoritarian Middle East governments from the Shah of Iran to Mubarak of Egypt to the Saudi royal family

    • the invasion, bombing and occupation of Afghanistan, 2001 to the present, and Iraq, 2003 to the present

    • the bombings and continuous firing of missiles to assassinate individuals in Somalia, Yemen, Pakistan, and Libya during the period of 2006-2011

It can’t be repeated or emphasized enough. The biggest lie of the “war on terrorism”, although weakening, is that the targets of America’s attacks have an irrational hatred of the United States and its way of life, based on religious and cultural misunderstandings and envy. The large body of evidence to the contrary includes a 2004 report from the Defense Science Board, “a Federal advisory committee established to provide independent advice to the Secretary of Defense.” The report states:

Muslims do not hate our freedom, but rather they hate our policies. The overwhelming majority voice their objections to what they see as one-sided support in favor of Israel and against Palestinian rights, and the long-standing, even increasing, support for what Muslims collectively see as tyrannies, most notably Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Pakistan and the Gulf states. Thus, when American public diplomacy talks about bringing democracy to Islamic societies, this is seen as no more than self-serving hypocrisy."CONTINUED

I know about the Barbary Pirates & the subsequent creation of the US Navy AND Marines, that's why I said "name ONE attack on the U.S". Tripoli is not in the U.S.

Why the need for "LOL"? That sort of stuff is what this thread is about.

That's why I brought up the issue of people adding snarky "LOL"s in Post #28.

The same goes with "ROFLOL" & similar smilies.
