$200 can shoot slugs, birdshot, buckshot. can be used for home defense, trap shooting, hunting very wide area of impact shotgun is the way to go
Not up close Ron. A defensive shotgun is a specialized weapon. If you have removable chokes slugs are out. You're out of your league here Ron.
you can't shoot slugs with any chokes? LOLOLOL!!!!! read the manual again, bub. either way, I'd use buckshot or larger birdshot for home defense. this thread is silly
Not with removable screw in chokes Ron, otherwise it might fly out the end of the barrel. But you didn't know that did you? And you sure you want to use a slug with a tight choke Ron? FACT: You haven't the slightest idea of the basics of the tactical shotgun or what kind of ammo to use bub. You're way out of your league here.
Ah, I see what this thread is REALLY about. The AR is the favorite gun of the NRA people. they see any criticism of the AR as an attack on freedom, liberty, etc etc. so saying the AR is not a good home defense weapon, is seen by the NRA people as an attack against America. LOL!!!
Yes, that's the gist of it. The rest is all smoke and nothing to do with 'home defense' as other than a lead in for the political agenda.
how dare we say the AR is not the perfect weapon!!!!! everyone should sleep with an AR to keep them cozy at night!!! an attack on the AR is an attack on Freedom!!!
And go to jail, unless you have the proper licenses and paperwork. And what most US servicemen who see combat use to shoot at the enemy. Nowhere here do I see you explaining how a shotgun is more maneuverable in tight spaces than a carbine.
I'm British so what the hell do I know about guns, but why ask somebody else to saw off your barrel, isn't it easy to do with a hacksaw yourself? As for going to jail, that'll only happen if the authorities find out, right Arnie? "Right"..
Exactly !! That takes special training with small bright tactical flashlights and several different grips. My own favorite is the cigar grip -- although it has a different technical name. I practice it when I take my pet for a walk at night.
Hey duh Ron, not suggested with screw in chokes. Almost all modern sporting shotguns have them. Tactical shotguns have fixed chokes. Don't change the narrative, it only makes you less informed. You don't know what you're talking about.
Nope, no tactical shotguns do. I like mine slick, no sling, no pistol grip. The only thing I want up front is a strobe light. Ghost ring sights and IC choke instead of open bore. You can squeeze a bit more range out of buckshot that way. Reloads on stock. First round is chambered, Tri-ball for # 1 which the IC choke is helpful, the rest with high velocity, buffered, plated 9 pellet 00 buck. If the gun will pattern it, Triball will push the range close to what a slug will do. Up close it will give soft armor a run for its money.
Once again, BS. Its been shown many times, a 9mm handgun will penetrate through many walls, as in this video: 5.56 hollow point penetrated 10 sheets of half inch dry wall and 6 inches of ballistics gel 9mm hollow point penetrated 10 sheets of half inch dry wall and 9 inches of ballistics gel (yes more than the 5.56) Or here: (go to the end for a table of results) http://how-i-did-it.org/drywall/results.html Every time there's a debate about the best firearm for home defense, someone inevitably chimes up to say that among his reasons for keeping a handgun for this purpose is the fact that handgun bullets won't go through as many walls as rifle rounds. As a categorical statement, this is completely incorrect. Here's proof. .
A shotgun loaded with birdshot is the very best for home defense in a highly populated area. But it won't fit under your pillow, so you still need a handgun of some kind, either a pistol or a revolver.
I like a sling on all my long guns so I can sling them over my shoulder or across my neck. Otherwise I need to hold it in my hands forever. Which is tiring.
IMHO, shotguns are a bit of an exception. Despite what "they" say about pistol grips making the weapon being easier to handle with one hand, I think they upset the balance and operation of a pump action. It's less so for a semi. A lot of people will put ammo carrying slings on their scattergun, but those things can and will slap you pretty hard with the recoil. A sling is just something for that will catch on things or give the bad guy something to grab onto.
The idea that you need a weapon to protect you in your home is an indicator of your mental and political attitude towards your greater society. I do not own a gun nor do I feel the need to protect myself in my home. We have bats near our bed only to give us a semblance of power, they won't do much if we are awakened at night by a burglar. Crime rates are way down, the police are more aggressive, homes are pretty safe these days in my area. Having a gun in the home increases the chance that it will be used in error and I won't take that chance. If you must have a gun to give you the same sense of security as our bats, I hardly believe it takes a military grade weapon to do the job. The AR series is a weapon of war, it has no place in a modern society other than in the hands of soldiers.
Even the most irrational insecurity can be justified in the minds of the insecure. "Honestly, Harry, I'll never tease you again for carrying around that elephant gun!"
