Barack Obama, Born in Kenya for 16 Years

I just want to bump this and remind everyone that

a) the OP doesn't show Obama making any such claim and
b) I have shown clearly that Obama did tell EVERYONE in his autobiography in 1995 that he was born in Hawaii.
c) So the claims of the thread are a lie- which makes this claim:

The answer is so simple that I bet even someone like you can understand it. There were three books written by Obama that used that Bio. It was not changed until his "Change We Can Believe In" was published. What Obama, his publicist, Bluebird and you want us to believe that Obama never checked his Bio on the cover of his books. But I have trouble believing that. No one in 16 years said, "Hey Obama, I thought you said that you were born in Hawaii. Your books say you were born in Kenya." You want people to believe that it was just a mistake. A mistake that was repeated three times.

I read that too. At first I thought this the author was just another loud mouthed partisan blogger. Surprise!

 

Okay lets review again.

Let me explain- in 1990 Barack Obama became a minor celebrity as the first African American head of the Harvard Law Review- he was featured in several National and Regional publications- at which 4 or 5 of them mentioned that he was born in Hawaii. Millions and millions of readers learned from these publications that Barack Obama was born in Hawaii.

This 1991 brochure was not going to the public- and indeed the public apparently didn't find it for years after he was elected- it was going to book publishers.

In 1991, Barack Obama was a newly minted graduate from the Harvard Law School and an unknown unpublished author looking for a publishing contract. He hired publicists Acton & Dystel (now Dystel & Goderich) to shop his book proposal around to publishers. The agency included a picture and short bio in a booklet distributed to the publishing industry. The text of the bio said:

Barack Obama, the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review, was born in Kenya and raised in Indonesia and Hawaii. The son of an American anthropologist and a Kenyan finance minister, he attended Columbia University and worked as a financial journalist and editor for Business International Corporation. He served as project coordinator in Harlem for the New York Public Interest Research Group, and was Executive Director of the Developing Communities Project in Chicago's South Side. His commitment to social and racial issues will be evident in his first book, Journeys in Black and White.

According to Miriam Goderich, she wrote the bio herself.

"You're undoubtedly aware of the brouhaha stirred up by Breitbart about the erroneous statement in a client list Acton & Dystel published in 1991 (for circulation within the publishing industry only) that Barack Obama was born in Kenya. This was nothing more than a fact checking error by me -- an agency assistant at the time. There was never any information given to us by Obama in any of his correspondence or other communications suggesting in any way that he was born in Kenya and not Hawaii. I hope you can communicate to your readers that this was a simple mistake and nothing more."


So does this mean that in 1991 Barack Obama was claiming to have been born in Kenya? Hardly. In 1990, Obama was elected as the first black President of the Harvard Law Review. This made national (and international) news. Hundreds of newpapers and magazines from large to small published articles about this major milestone.

The Bio was from a publicist's booklet distributed at publishing industry functions in 1991. It touted a book that was never written. The content from the booklet was carried over to the agency's website, and appeared long after the publicist no longer worked for Obama.

Some see something nefarious in that: I see an error that never got corrected. There was no reason for anyone outside of Chicago to care about the birthplace of an unpublished author from 1991 to 1995 (when his book was published), then until 2004 when he was the keynote speaker at the Democratic Convention. In all that time, Barack Obama himself never said he was born in Kenya.

Here are just a few much more prominant publications that claimed Obama was born in Hawaii:

The new president of the Review is Barack Obama, a 28-year-old graduate of Columbia University who spent four years heading a community development program for poor blacks on Chicago's South Side before enrolling in law school. In addition, Obama finally published his book in 1995, titled not Journeys in Black and White (the title the agency was shopping around in 1991) but Dreams from my Father. The book tour and publicity featured Obama's life story, including birth in Hawaii.

And of course his first book said he was born in Hawaii - and spoke of his very first trip to Kenya as an adult- that trip was central to the theme of the book.

There were no books that were written that used that bio. The bio doesn't appear in, on or near any of his books. It was in a brochure sent to publishers, and it was on his publicists website.

The reason no one noticed it until 2011(?) is because it was so obscure.

So once again- how did you reach your conclusion that Obama told his publisher to have this info in an obscure brochure that the public would likely never see- while at the same time telling everyone in interviews- and his own books- that he was born in Hawaii.

If you look at the actual facts- that from 1990- 1991- Barack Obama is touted in publications, his own books, and his own website as being born in Hawaii- why do you think that he chose to deceive in this obscure brochure- rather than believe the author of the publicist, who said it was her mistake?

 

Accoding to one Clinton insider, Bill Clinton had his people investigate Obama and was going to proclaim during a campaign speech in 2008 that he was born in Kenya.

Unfortunately, the Obama machine got to him. After a couple of his friends died of mysterious circumstances, they threatened his daughter, giving the former president no choice but to keep silent.

I recently read somewhere that some information on the Obama BC is still controversial.
Some of the questions that have arisen.

The country of Kenya did not exist at the time of Obama's birth. It was still officially British East Africa. Rather than as listed on the BC. The name was changed in 1963 supposedly two years after Obama was born. According to the BC, Barack Hussein Obama Senior listed his birth place as Kenya, East Africa.
