People here are rather cruel when they are happy to bomb the crap out of Iraq and Afghanistan, then refuse to help the citizens of those countries when they come here for help.

(*)(*)(*)(*)ing pathetic, and those people don't deserve to call themselves Australian.

Anyone who comes to Australia by stealth,be it by boat or plane is illegal and should be immediately kicked out and sent back from whence they came. This so called outdated treaty with the UN should be immediately torn up and thrown into the dustbin of history, where it belongs. In the same way we no longer wear bell bottom trousers or write letters with a fountain pen.It was a treaty for another time, another place, and is being misused and abused to making us the laughing stock of the 'illegal' migrant trade.

We are/were in those countries to fight idiotic misogynst fruitcakes whose mindset is still stuck deep in the mire in the Dark Ages. And they will do anything to drag The West, and especially women, back to those dragonian times!

And they have not, as yet, been pushed and dragged into the 21st century. So it's about time we left Afghanistan since it is becoming increasingly obvious that the civilisation process will take an enormous amount of time and, we gave caught 'him' anyhow . And can we trust the Pakis, especially since it is obvious they were hiding bin Laden.

    Incorrect.

You really should study up on this.

Your total ignorance on the subject is quite alarming.

Coming by stealth, without a visa, on a boat operated by people smugglers does not make an asylum seeker an illegal immigrant.

Learn the facts and stop making your ridiculous posts.

Have you noticed that nobody here agrees with you? Why? Because you are wrong.

Huh? Arriving at an airport you go through Customs. They have systems in place to try and track unauthorised aircraft arrivals and thankfully our geography hinders that.

They are breaking the law, so that is illegal. If you arrive by boat you have to notify Customs beforehand.... but when they claim asylum that sticks them into a seperate category which allows them to attempt entry. They destroy their papers so we have no choice but to believe whatever they say which is like taking advantage of the system..... if they are found out not to be genuine asylum seekers then they are definatly illegal.... but it doesnt change the issue which is that most boat people break many laws in many countries as part of their attempts to get into Australia. So while a successful asylum claim might not be illegal entry, they are still criminals for various reasons. The only exception to this is if they come directly from their home nation of asylum - which for Australia they do not because of our geography.

Um, you've missed the point (scroll back).

    It's not about unauthorised arrivals.

It's about the people who come by plane that overstay their visas and never leave the country.

" ... the annual average number of boat arrivals to Australia is tiny in comparison to the 50,000 people that over-stay their visas each year ... "

So everybody on this site, according to your poll, disagrees with me, and, therefore, on that basis basis I must be wrong. Well, of course history tell us that, on many occasions, the Mob (the majority) has been wrong eg the Mob that voted for Hitler, the Mob that voted for Mao and last but not least, the Mob that voted for Pol Pot. That doesn't mean that the Mob is always wrong of course, but it does indicate that it is not always right (but often wrong) either. But if you want to run with the Mob, without proper consideration of the matter in hand, well that's your decision. But me, I prefer to make up my own mind without being swayed by the Mob, although I will take into consideration the thoughts of its members.

But I haven't counted the number of people on this site who agree or disagree with me on this topic because, frankly it's not an issue that I would take into consideration in engaging in any discussion on any topic. I would listen to their point of view, but still make up my own mind.

Obviously you love running with the Mob, without any consideration as to where it will carry you.

    Never let the Mob rule.

    Remember the guillotine?

That was run by a Mob, a totally disgraceful, bloodthirsty Mob!

Nothing to do with the mob.

You're wrong because the law says so.

    Don't you obey laws?

I was referring to Mak's "Funn how you never hear Abbott saying he'll stop the planes. Its all about the boats...". - that's why I quoted it when I posted it. He clearly uses the term 'stop the planes'. Anyway, authorities do try and find people when they overstay their VISA, at least they entered the country according to everyones laws and whether they originally intended to break the law upon arriving doesnt really change the fact that they had not yet commited a crime when they did arrive. I think its silly to compare some sort of precog crime expectation against air travellers to the deliberate misleading criminal pipeline of boat people.

The Migration Act 1958 allows asylum seekers to enter Australia without a visa.

Also, employing the services of a people smuggler does not disqualify one from seeking asylum in Australia.

Thus, asylum seekers coming to Australia by boat are not illegal immigrants.

    Crisis over.

Excellent observation Axia, I couldn't have put it better myself:

'I think its silly to compare some sort of precog crime expectation against air travellers to the deliberate misleading criminal pipeline of boat people.'

The 'Let Them all in Crowd' are always trying to drag in the red herring of those who come by plane and over stay their alloted time.

Its not crisis over. Nothing you said there is contrary to what I said. I guess that post is your equivilant of putting your hands over your ears when you dont want to hear something, or shutting your eyes to make the bad thing go away.... the reality is as I described it above - boat people trying to get to Australia are 99% breaking many laws before reaching Australia (making them criminals), then financing illegal people smugglers (criminal to pay criminals in breaking law), to arrive in Australia where they take advantage of the law by destroying their identities and saying whatever it takes to claim asylum.

Its not crisis over. Tell that to the people drowning in the ocean, tell that to the people stuck in refugee camps because Australia is too busy having to process and place wealthy smuggled migrants. The crisis is they are financing a breach in border/national security in various countries, including Australia, and supporting a criminal people smuggling network which is callous and operating outside of the laws leading to lots of deaths.

The boat people are doing the wrong thing, taking advantage of the weakness in the law, supporting criminals, feeding criminal networks and activities etc etc. Their whole premise of seeking asylum is bogus so it suprises me people even swallow this BS to being with. They stopped seeking asylum when they left their home country... geebuz. They are queue jumpers because if they'd done the right thing as genuine economic and political refugees then they'd go to their nearest refugee processing facility once leaving their home country and be in a processing queue, of which Australia and other countries takes refugee's - but by breaking the laws they get to Australia which means they get here faster then if they'd done the right thing.

I didnt mind Asian boat people, because at least they 'could' have got here direct from their home nations.

"Criminals" are not exempt from claiming asylum in Australia.

The majority of boat people turn out to be genuine refugees.

The majority of boat people turn out to be genuine refugees.

Incorrect. There's no such thing as an asylum seeker queue.

I thought it was sickening to see the ALP try to make some point about how expensive it would be to reopen Nauru..... not realizing it makes them look stupid for trying to score cheap political points by closing it in the first place.

Thats who the ALP rolls though, over-reaction and redress, pity it equals lots of wasted taxpayers dollars, especially now they got the economy sliding downhill. I guess they have to pay off their union bosses somehow in exchange for union votes (power).

How would anyone know, they only provide enough information to claim refugee status. It doesnt change the fact of that is what is going on.... is this more head in sand stuff Uncle Meat, are you a lawyer per chance with such a one sided position deliberatly ignoring the contrary conditions??

Incorrect, the majority of boat people turn out to meet the requirements to be considered genuine refugees. Since they deliberatly destroy papers and are travelling from the other side of the world it's difficult bordering on impossible to ascertain any facts other then what they choose to tell.

I just explained the queue to you. Its a complex system which has a start and an end and if someone takes deliberate steps to skip or bypass aspects of it then they are "jumping the queue".

    Boat people are not "illegals".

    There is no deluge.

Stop listening to Bolty: he tells lies.

"The majority of people arriving by boat claim asylum although a few may not (these are usually crew members). The preferred terms for boat arrivals as used by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) are ‘unauthorised boat arrivals’ or ‘irregular maritime arrivals’ and, as noted above, people arriving by such means who then claim asylum are entitled to do so.

The term ‘illegal’ may more appropriately apply to those without a valid visa (‘unlawful non-citizens’) who are not seeking protection, such as visa overstayers.[12] As at 30 June 2010, it was estimated that there were about 53 900 visa overstayers residing in Australia."

    Your explanation was incorrect though.

"There is a view that asylum seekers, particularly those who arrive in Australia by boat, are ‘jumping the queue’ and taking the place of a more deserving refugee awaiting resettlement in a refugee camp. The concept of an orderly queue does not accord with the reality of the asylum process."

You'll need to take up that semantics argument with the Government.

The majority of boat people have been found to be refugees and are granted protection.

Dont believe everything you read, that page is rubbish and probably with political bias, notice they used the "orderly queue" as if they are saying its not like lining up to buy a movie ticket. When will the ALP supporters stop twisting the truth for political gain!!

There are various types of queues; serial, parallel, ones with designated ends and ones without multiple end points etc. The reality is the refugee process is designed to process refugee's... ie they arrive, are processed and then are settled elsewhere or denied. In the simplest (non-political biased like your link) terms a refugee processing camp has a queue, but thats just loose semantics, it is a system of queues to effect a group of processes to achieve output of individual units according to a systems requirements........ in other words a big freakin queue, albiet not a simple "orderly" queue.

The government know this to be true already, its only the ALP sheep which baaa out the party line of nonsense which believe the party spin. I'd prefer to deal with discussing solving real problems with the real conditions then the spun political biased positions on topic.

No it's not rubbish at all, however, let's see some sources from you.

If you refuse to accept facts from the sources I post, how about providing some evidence of your own to support your claims.
