The ultimate goal of the homosexual community is the total breakdown of family values and religious practices that consider homosexuality a sin. If they have to, they will destroy everyone's ability to practice their faith as they believe.

    - - - Updated - - -

Um...no. Their is no First Amendment right for homosexuals to dictate to the faithful how and what they can believe.

If you want to see what homosexuals are going to do to our society and our freedoms you need look no further than the Boy Scouts of America.

The incompatibility is not between "gay marriage" and "religious freedom", but between non-discrimination laws and the desire to discriminate against persons of same sex orientation, using religion as the cover story, as if the latter trumps those laws. It appears to be a notion that religious beliefs are an exemption from the law. I would dispute this as being the purpose of the First Amendment. The First Amendment's purpose is to prevent the establisment of religion through the legislative process, and to prevent the law from dictating the who, what, and how of religious practice.

Is it your contention that holding a religious belief entitles one to discriminate against groups of people in business practices regulated by the law?

Is it your contention that religious organizations should enjoy some special exemption from the law that other organizations do not?

Is it your contention that people who hold religious beliefs should enjoy some exemption from the law not afforded to those who hold no religious beliefs?

Many more questions I could ask. The bottom line is that religion does not trump law - nothing in the Constitution says so - including the First Amendment.

Are we gay people Americans? Yes. So we are indeed covered by the First Amendment. Your rights stop where mine begin.

The Constitution. Your right to practice religion ends where others' rights begin.

Are you saying that the first amendment doesn't cover gay aericans? :roflol:

No one cares about how people practice their religious belief (except, apparently, the extreme Christian Right, who would like to keep every non-Christian to practice THEIR religion!), as long as it doesn't impose narrow, bigoted, man made dogmas on everyone else!

Yes, the US constitution should trump state statutes.

The US constitution supports EQUAL RIGHTS for all . . .please show us where there is an exception to that rule specifically for gay people.

The ultimate goal of some who consider homosexuality a sin appears to be making life miserable for gay people. Among the tools used is the spouting of propaganda that claims to know what the "homosexual community" has as an "ultimate goal".

Personally speaking, I value functional families, and have no desire to bring about the "total breakdown of family values". I will just point out a person may hold beliefs that homosexuality is a sin, but that's not a religious practice. It's a religious belief. Religious beliefs do not necessarily justify any and all actions as religious practices. Otherwise, I suppose one could claim a right to murder gay people as a matter of "religious practices that consider homosexuality a sin" punishable by death.

I likewise have no desire to eliminate religious beliefs or practices. I simply refuse to accept the argument that religion exempts one from the law or from criticism.

You are, of course, free to believe whatever you like about the "homosexual community". Just as I am free to believe whatever I like about people who make ridiculous statements about "the homosexual community".

You don't have a clue. I have no right to be treated equally by other individuals. Only a right to be treated equally by the government. And prohibiting people from discriminating against gays while people are free to discriminate against me because I have freckles, isn't equal treatment from government. It is UNEQUAL by design

How does this support the contention that holding a religious belief entitles one to discriminate against groups of people in business practices regulated by law?

Please show me exactly where I tried to tell you how to practice your beliefs!!?? Taking away the rights of others is NOT practicing religious beliefs....it's discrimination. You have a vivid imagination and a strange way of twisting what others say.:steamed:

I said SHOULD. In this day and age things such as the well being of children or constitutional law takes a back seat to avoiding offending the delicate sensibilities of gays.

I agree.. if gays can legally marry, they should get the same marriage benefits.
Law is law whether we agree with it or not.

I just wouldn't get so offended and gayngry every time someone disagrees with me.

    Let's hope not.

No, I want the legal institution of marriage completely abolished. The government should not dictate who can marry who, and marriages should be need to be recognized by the government. Simply do away with the idea of legal marriages. Define marriage as a social contract between consenting adults, and that's it. No licenses, no other requirements, just that all parties be at or over the age of consent.

So gay men hitting on your have made it impossible for you to live your life. So would that also work the other way? If you hit on a lesbian should she be able to claim that you infringed on her rights and YOU should be banned from marrying and be considered a second class citizen?

Section 3 did, yes, and it was overturned by SCOTUS as unconstitutional. Section 2 explicitly allows states to ignore the full faith and credit clause, and it is still, but it's days are numbered. It, too will be struck down eventually.

LOL, Phil... it never was. Some of the gayest men out here are either bisexual or on the down-low. What the "ring' means (or meant) to YOU, is what counts. And it damned sure should mean more than just YOU being 'straight'. LOL!! :) Seriously, that is for YOU and YOUR SPOUSE to honor/cherish (even until death do part you both).

I am gay, celibate and masculine RIGHT NOW. I've been suspected of being gay and few know that I am. Bear your Cross man. If you aren't "gay" don't worry about it; be yourself. Find yourself a person to love and who loves you. I'm pretty sure that there will always be people who will judge you; that is LIFE. But really, no "ring" on your finger will cause someone to think you're "straight"... at best, it will signify that you are committed to someone; and that commitment is worth 'honoring' whether you are gay/straight. I bet that God knows your 'heart', and that is the most important thing.

Be yourself. Stop trying to please others... especially if they are closed-minded and bigoted. You will NEVER satisfy them (they are probably don't know much about love).

Some people are "homosexual", Phil. Of course, if you are an attractive person... they will be drawn to you. The reality is that YOU will have to handle that as a decent human being would. Unless you're physically assaulted by someone, you just let them know you aren't interested. As a gay guy in the military, I always had to be careful about telling women that I wasn't "interested"... and man did they 'flirt'!! There were times I knew I'd have been in big trouble, if I weren't gay. Usually, most women just assumed I was either committed or 'religious'... and they generally got that right, because I am a Christian. My life is not ABOUT 'sex', but I'm certain I am not a heterosexual.

Again, there is nothing wrong with having homosexual "friends". As long as those people respect you as a person, what's the problem?

I really wish I knew more about you, but it's clear that you made your choices about 'friendship' and other social components.

And that is one of the most 'idiotic' comments you could have possibly expressed as a human being existing on this planet.
