It didn't help that much of the chemical weapons arsenal held by various Middle Eastern nations was sold to them by the West. No double standards there then.

here is some maps of the "New Syria" https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...shing-population-shifts-to-increase-influence

    "
Iran repopulates Syria with Shia Muslims to help tighten regime's control
New communities are settling in areas where Sunnis have fled or been forced out as Tehran seeks an arc of control stretching from its borders to Israel
In the valleys between Damascus and Lebanon, where whole communities had abandoned their lives to war, a change is taking place. For the first time since the conflict broke out, people are starting to return.

But the people settling in are not the same as those who fled during the past six years.

The new arrivals have a different allegiance and faith to the predominantly Sunni Muslim families who once lived there. They are, according to those who have sent them, the vanguard of a move to repopulate the area with Shia Muslims not just from elsewhere in Syria, but also from Lebanon and Iraq.

The population swaps are central to a plan to make demographic changes to parts of Syria,
realigning the country into zones of influence that backers of Bashar al-Assad, led by Iran, can directly control and use to advance broader interests. Iran is stepping up its efforts as the heat of the conflict starts to dissipate and is pursuing a very different vision to Russia, Assad’s other main backer.

Russia, in an alliance with Turkey, is using a nominal ceasefire to push for a political consensus between the Assad regime and the exiled opposition. Iran, meanwhile, has begun to move on a project that will fundamentally alter the social landscape of Syria, as well as reinforcing the Hezbollah stronghold of north-eastern Lebanon, and consolidating its influence from Tehran to Israel’s northern border.

“Iran and the regime don’t want any Sunnis between Damascus and Homs and the Lebanese border,” said one senior Lebanese leader. “This represents a historic shift in populations.”

Key for Iran are the rebel-held towns of Zabadani and Madaya, where Damascus residents took summer breaks before the war. Since mid-2015 their fate has been the subject of prolonged negotiations between senior Iranian officials and members of Ahrar al-Sham, the dominant anti-Assad opposition group in the area and one of the most powerful in Syria.

Talks in Istanbul have centred on a swap of residents from two Shia villages west of Aleppo, Fua and Kefraya, which have both been bitterly contested over the past three years. Opposition groups, among them jihadis, had besieged both villages throughout the siege of Aleppo, attempting to tie their fate to the formerly rebel-held eastern half of the city.

The swap, according to its architects, was to be a litmus test for more extensive population shifts, along the southern approaches to Damascus and in the Alawite heartland of Syria’s north-west, from where Assad draws much of his support.

Ehm ... Syria was since ever ally and close friend of USSR and so later of Russia. Their complete Army was USSR / Russian equipped and they received chemicals weapons of USSR too ... simply because as balance against Israel and also not to forget against Saddam in Iraq.
Syria also tried to build a nuclear bomb with North Korean help as we all know, but failed after Israel destroyed the secret plant.

So yes ... to deny that Syria has chemical weapons is foolish as it is to deny that Israel is a nuclear power too.

Muscovy has nothing to do with USSR , and its communistic world dominance plans, what Muscovy wants in "Syria" its to get a bargaining chip in the bigger Ukrainian- Georgian game .

Nonsense ... USSR was ally of Syria under Assad and his father before since ever. Followed by Russia which took over the USSR contracts and relations and also the naval base in Syria!
Assad is Moscow's dictator as others are Washington's dictators on this planet and in the region! So Russia does nothing other as USA before in the world!

Do you really think that the military coup of Egyptian Army after the election victory of Muslim brothers was an only Egyptian internal issue? BS ... Egypt has largest M1A1 tank and F-16 jet fleet after the USA and is strategic core partner!
Do you really think that Washington's close friend of the KSA Royal Regime is a democracy?

    http://www.theepochtimes.com/n3/2160002-russias-power-play-in-syria-2/

"the naval base in Syria!" have you seen it? i am 100% no ...not even close to what USA has in Germany

Woah-woah-woah, ARE WE NOW? Were it not YOU who claimed WE are responsible for all the actions of Soviet Union, were it not YOU who kept blaming us for everything related to Union, were it not YOU claiming were are a direct contitnuation of the USSR, were it not YOU claiming we are all communists there?

Ah yes, right, today it does not fits your putanic rhetorics, so suddenly you change and deform, like a piece of unbaked dough. Sorrow to those, who live without opinions, only goals. To achieve something - takes much more, than just talk, it takes the SPINE.

Nothing to see here. Another amateurish false flag attack most likely organized by neocons and their Sunni radical allies in order to force Trump’s administration to change their policies towards Assad. I don’t know how anyone with at least average IQ could actually take those amateurishly done Al-Jazeera footage and reports seriously. For heaven’s sake, in this particular case, they found some radical jihadist to report from the scene. The guy was all over the place, lying through his teeth, making up stories as interview was going…cluster bombs, barrel bombs, chemical bombs etc…Bloody joke.

Furthermore this blatant false flag attack had another purpose. Tto diver the worldwide attention from St. Petersburg. People actually started showing some compassion towards Russians. That cannot happen in the neoconservative/liberal interventionists world. Russians are bad guys and they’re to be hated no matter what.
Cui bono? Certainly not the legitimate Syrian government and Russians.

I have no reason not to believe Seymour Hersh. He has more credibility than any so called mainstream journalist in the USA.

Seymour Hersh: Hillary Approved Sending Libya’s Sarin to Syrian Rebels
    http://www.mintpressnews.com/215993-2/215993/

Pulitzer prize winning journalist, Serymour Hersh, said "Our policy has always been against him [Assad]. Period". This has actually been the case not only since the Party that Assad leads, the Ba’ath Party, was the subject of a shelved CIA coup-plot in 1957 to overthrow and replace it; but, actually, the CIA’s first coup had been not just planned but was carried out in 1949 in Syria, overthrowing there a democratically elected leader, in order to enable a pipeline for the Sauds’ oil to become built through Syria into the largest oil market, Europe; and, construction of the pipeline started the following year.

Really now? Litwin, in all due honor respect!

That USSR is not Russia and Russia is not USSR with other name is clear and I never told this!

But you have to understand, accept and simply to know that the USSR had big relations in the world as all others and when USSR ended, who took these relations over, eh? It was Russia!
And so they did here in Syria too! Before Civil War broke out, the Syrian Forces were all Ex-USSR weapons equipped! Who delivered all the stuff after end of USSR further and delivered some new weapons too? Russia!
Who used the USSR naval base in Syria further after end of USSR? Russia!
So it was an ongoing process and after end of USSR, Russia took over the friendship and close relations with Assad regime!

Maybe or maybe not, who cares about? I not and I make only a shrug about, because Moscow has same rights in international relations as Washington has. Syria is their friend and so they help their friend Assad – point!

You can ask why suddenly now and so late / not earlier? No idea and maybe it has to do with Ukraine, no idea, but Russia is legally inside Syria and I have no problem with this!
The so glory West has so utterly failed here and messed the situation totally up, it was overdue that Russia takes over to back their ally!
And anyone who blames here for any really done or estimated crimes of Russia has to shut up totally, because the USA and these Western countries involved have done not better in the past.

That KSA is doing right the same in Yemen as what Russia does in Syria, including the bloody things, is ignored, denied and sometimes trolls that this is OK! Sorry … who blames Russia for Syria, has to blame KSA and their backing big friend USA too for Yemen … and has to be shamed about own incompetence in Syria over 4 years!

    Hold on your horses.

For a month that person kept insisting that Russian Federation is de facto the USSR, now suddenly he argues for opposite. Let him answer me first, and explain why the sudden change and if that means that he changed opinion - or that his opinion just lacks consistency, as long as it aimed against my brithland.

    Who benefits from this?

Not Assad. Assad basically had the war won, neither ISIS nor the other rebels were going to be able to defeat him with Russia's help on his side.

The only thing that would put the outcome in doubt is for something like this to happen that brings in international help against him under the presumption he was responsible. I don't think Assad is that stupid to do an attack like this at this stage in the game. It killed a few dozen people, that happens regularly without chemical weapons and no one cares. To me this is clearly designed to provoke a response against Assad and probably carried out as a false flag by Syrian rebels.

You are right. Just as he didn't do the other gas attack. So, it is a false flag, for the trump admin just said he could stay. God, it is so transparent what is going on. Only an idiot would believe assad is this stupid.

I agree. Haaretz was blaming Assad even before they had identified whether gas was used or not.

They're already rolling out the pre-coordinated propaganda on social media to get the useful idiots on board with escalating the war. Pictures and videos of suffering children, doctors on screen begging for help, trendy hashtags are imminent. And the worst thing is, this generation will swallow it all hook, line, and sinker and not question one damn thing from the narrative.

A lot of people in the West, especially here in the US, have a superman complex. They think it is their duty and right to intervene with violence anywhere on Earth if they happen to like the cause. Here is a sorely needed dose of reality: you can't save everybody; people suffer and die every day and sometimes they just need to sort it out themselves because often times when you intervene a lot more people die than would have otherwise. You see a photo of a dying Syrian child and all of the sudden you are General Patton ordering troops into combat. But are you willing to go yourself? Hell no. You are only willing to clamor for other people and other people's children to be sent over to do airstrikes or even get boots on the ground. Let's just get out of Syria and be done with this.

    Prove it. Properly.

And by the way, do it in readable English. Considering how much time you spent on this forum, you should've learned the language already.
