The Russian naval base in Tartus is only 4 small berths and about 25 workers..

Trump is not going to respond to the chemical attack in Syria.. and that's probably the right thing to do.

The problem here is that Assad mocked some sort of peace agreement the Russians had hammered out with some rebels groups.

The Russians carried out the chemical bombing attack and then bombed hospitals.

I'm afraid that the neoconservatives and their allies within the security apparatus (the deep state) completely hijacked the U.S foreign policy. I'm afraid we're headed for another war but this one very soon can turn into regional one and then the global one. It's clear, the neocons are prepared to use chemical weapons against civilians to get their way, they are itching to try nuclear ones.

Matthew Rycroft, the UK's ambassador to the UN, told the Security Council that Mr Assad had "humiliated" Russia by "making a mockery" of the peace process it had brokered with some rebel groups.

What Trump says and what he can do is entirely different matter. He's been undermined from the day one. Both left and right. The latest attack in Syria just shows how sick neoconservatives are. They are desperate to get their war against Iran.

Neither Russian nor Syrian planes carry chemical weapons. One's got to be a complete fool to believe in hogwash like that. Ans the British ambassador to the UN is one of those plonkers.

Obama was right not to intervene in Syria. Assad didn't cross his red line. Sunni radical Muslims committed chemical attack in Ghouta. Hillary delivered goods.

Nope.. The Syrians did this. Do you actually think everyone is lying? Look at the photos and videos at this link.

    Who cares?

What we need in Syria is stability as fast as possible. Assad creates stability. He is the man we have to work with.

I´m sick about this stupid mentality that we have to care for evryone and evrything. This is Germany. Our leaders have to care for one and only thing: Well being of Germany. Today i hear our incompetent foreign minister want spend 1.5 billion € for Syria. What for?

I'm not responding to trolling Margot. Once again, only an absolute idiot could possibly believe that the Russian warplanes carry chemical weapons on board. Or Syrian. Especially when the situation on the ground is in their favour. Troll elsewhere Margot.

I had to correct myself. Syria did the bombing..

Matthew Rycroft, the UK's ambassador to the UN, told the Security Council that Mr Assad had "humiliated" Russia by "making a mockery" of the peace process it had brokered with some rebel groups.

"What is your plan?" he asked. "What is your plan to stop these horrific senseless attacks? We had a plan and we had the support and you rejected it to protect Assad."

Russia and China have blocked attempts to impose sanctions on Syria.

This sounds like either an accident as the result of strikes on weapons manufacturing, or another false flag by the White Helmets meant to demonize Assad to give Trump the same chance Obama had to send in US troops.

To be precise, it is a complex of six buildings and two floating piers, 100 meters long each, with only one currently being operative. It is guarded by two regiments of RF marines, which is, according to wiki, should be something around ~42-90 soldiers, at least according to sources of 2015. The source link about civilian contractors, stationed in Tartus, used as source on English Wikipedia is dated 2013, so apparently situation slightly changed.
According to Wiki, there are talks about establishing a permanent naval base in Tartus, but that decidion is not ratified yet, albeit Assad said to welcome it.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_naval_facility_in_Tartus
    https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Пункт_материально-технического_обеспечения_ВМФ_России_в_Сирии
    http://izvestia.ru/news/637298

Then again, I doubt that in case of new president being elected in 2021 - though, I think that elections should be held earlier, preferably a year or so after the ISIL will be permanently driven out of Syria - the decidion over Tartus would change much. Especially considering, that likely at that time Russian Federation itself will be going through - I hope - a positive reshuffle of government and renewal of political relation with other countries. Recent events clearly show, that we need cooperation. And not just between 'West' and Russia, but across all of Eurasia, if we want to solve threat of terror once and for all. If government of Kyrgizia was more vigilant.. If.

We must adapt our methods and actions.

The Russian defense ministry claimed that a Syrian airstrike hit "workshops, which produced chemical warfare munitions" in the eastern outskirts of Khan Sheikhoun. It said that "terrorists" had been transporting the chemical munitions from its largest arsenal to Iraq. This explanation is quite plausible as Khan Sheikhoun is dominated by the al-Qaeda affiliated al-Nusra Front, from which 2 kg of sarin gas was confiscated by Turkish security forces a few years ago. We are easily deceived by horrific images of children, which could be al-Qaeda propaganda, and the number of victims could have been much higher, if it had not been an accidental leak of chemical gas.
