    As an Aussie I feel so embarrassed by this idiot, the self termed Professor of Climate Change at the University of NSW who organised this pantomime of a Climate Change Tour
    'Down South.' Aided and abetted, of course, by that red rag, known in the UK, as The Guardian. It looks more idiotic by the day and possibly weeks.

    Let then freeze to death!

    Oddly enough, I heard a live broadcast of a satellite phone interview between NPR and one of the guys on the stranded ship. He said that the Chinese are sending in helicopters. The ship has about 3 weeks supply of everything. He also said that they're about 20 NM from open sea. That's a LOT of ice to break through!

    The fact that a ship carrying environmentalists researching global warming and the supposed melting of the ice caps gets stuck for days in Antarctic ice is a delicious irony.

    The generous American tax payer :steamed: is going to free the now stuck Chinese Rescue ship and the original Russky research ship.
    The Polar Star isn't Nuc powered but does sport a unique rocking mechanism to help avoid getting stuck.
    Maybe the Russians will finally send one of their nuc powered ones to free the Polar Star and the other 2 ships.
    I do so love the concept of a nuc powered icebreaker. Especially if some of that heat generation is used to weaken the ice.

    I can't believe it? Maybe this one will get stuck too, then they can all get together and have a party. I was going to say they can wait until some of the ice melts, but it's wintertime there. I guess it's going to be a long wait.

    Who is paying for all this anyway? :confuse:

    Umm no - it is coming on summer in the southern hemisphere

    And the question of cost has already been raised by the Australian Antarctic Commission. They suggested they are going to go after the tour organizers for some cash

    don't. you know it's summer in Antarctica? don't you know pack ice breaks up into ice flows/islands of ice in the summer? don't you know ice flows are wind driven? ... apparently you don't much about pack ice let alone global warming...

    Besides the Douglas Mawson repeat cruise they were also planning on doing research on "Climate Change"(Global Warming's new name;)) and more specifically to investigate the disappearance of ice on the Ross Ice Shelf. Lol!
